- Happy Cambodian New Year!!!
Cambodian new year is coming up and my mom, as always, decided to make a large batch of Num Anksom. I always thought this recipe was hard but its not the recipe, its the process. The process may be tedious but the outcome is worth all the work. After scouring through TH-cam, I wasn't able to find a complete how to and I knew my mother was going to make this soon. So I went ahead and recorded her making Num Anksom. I tried to provide as much information as possible. If there is anything you questions about, please let me know. Thanks for watching and enjoy.
15lbs Sweet/Sticky Rice (Soak in water for up to 6hrs) Seasoned with 1 1/2 tbs of Salt
6 14oz bags of Split Mung Bean (Soak in water for up to 6hrs) Seasoned with 2tbs salt & 1tbs of MSG
Shaved coconut
Coconut Milk
Salt
MSG
Pork Belly Seasoned with (MSG/Salt/Sugar/Black Pepper/Garlic)
Wrapper
Tin Foil
Banana Leaves
String
Boil in water for up to 4hours
Dipping Sauce
Garlic
Dried or fresh chili
Green Onion
Sawtooth Herb
Fish Sauce
Lime
1 Tsp MSG
1/2 Tbs Sugar
Ways you can eat Num Anksom
1. As is
2. Leave it wrapped and place it on the bbq to add some crunch to the sticky rice
3. Pan fry it and dip it with the shown dipping sauce
Not every eats this with the sauce shown in the video. But I may be wrong. We do and it taste great. Its an easy dip to make so I hope you'll give it a try. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
Many years ago a co-worker gave me a taste of a bundle of rice, mung bean and peppery pork in a leaf, if she told me the name I forgot over the years, but I never forgot the taste. I will make my own now, thank you!
Love that she still uses the old school coconut shredder. This makes me miss my mak so much.

Well demonstrated..
Thank you & Happy Cambodian New Year!
Really thank you to the video taker:) Awkun nas ja...
Good morning, I was up late cooking these past midnight. I took the tin foil off and warmed one up this morning in the microwave, it was sooo good! I'm totally happy with how they turned out. Thank you again to you and your mom!
I will mention that as a new person to this, it is easy to put too much in. My rolls are huge, ha ha, but that does not affect the flavor which is so good.
Subscribed, btw. Now I'm off to watch more of your videos.
This is very nice, I love to eat it*
And My family always make it when Chinese New Year and very Culture festivals. I know how to make it:) Love it, miss my mom! thank you for the nice video.
Man , that mechanical auto-focus is working overtime! Good work though, very informative! My mom's side of the family makes these and sell in the local Khmer stores.
Thanks for sharing! I subscribed for these videos! They are helpful to me!
I love you videos
No problem. I'm glad you can find them useful.
Food looks so yummy~ The girls are so cute :)
I love to pan fry it when it's been frozen after a while. If it's just freshly made, I prefer to eat it the original steam way.
Looks so good!! Thanks for sharing Your mom is too cute. Reminds me of mine. yeah no need of translation. :-)
Make me so hungry, I think I'm gonna make this for Cambodian New Year:)
Happy new year from Australia!
Happy New Year!
Thank you! I had already gotten banana leaves, mung beans, and sticky rice to make this for my first time. This video is perfect! Thank you for the "About" description containing the recipes. Thank you and your mom for your time and sharing her knowledge. Much Respect!
Question: How long do you let them cool before opening and cutting?
Looks lovely, I would put that whole plate down!
Just now when the video started I saw the plastic with Lao and Thai letter:) Nice..
They're real good. Especially when they're only made 1 time a year, better enjoy them while you can lol.
My friend makes that same sauce when we eat beef soup its very good and tangy! >
What about steaming? If we wanted to steam the ansom how long?
I never try pan fry before but it look good tho.I'm going to pan fry it whenever I make it or buy it.
I’m soooo hungry for this until I see the process is too long lol
What string do you use to tie everything?
Sorry I wasn't able to answer your questions earlier. You cook the mung beans similiar to cooking rice. As for the rice you want to soak the rice in water and drain.
this what i bring to work everyday n stir fry noodle easy to eat, i'm good on eating cup of noodle like every1 else lol
Can you ask your mother to make a video how to make num anksom banana because I am not into pork. If that's not too much trouble. Thanks to you and your mother for sharing her recipes and her cooking method.
Will do when I get the chance. I might request that coming up soon from her as well. This coming Monday she'll be making Curry so I don't want to much food going around. Trying to keep it down to one item here and there.
We love it pan fried its so crunchy yum lol. Just pan fry one piece just to make sure you'll like it that way. I don't want you to pan fry it all it end up not liking it haha. Enjoy!
. Thank you for posting this clip. I like this cake.
What is Cambodian New Year?. Is it the same day as Chinese and Vietnamese New Year?
Do Cambodian have tradition of cooking this cake for Cambodian New Year?
it s not easy to make it, i tried to make one recently. good video
I have a video on papaya salad but wasn't happy with how I recorded the video. It was missing to many steps etc. I'll see if I can have her make it again next with along with sach ko ang.
yummy! can your mom make papaya salad next?
Hello
Thank you for all the amazing dishes. I want to know what kind of string does she used? Oh is it the same way with sweet banana? Thank you..
I can't tell so I'll ask, is the rice and mung beans just soaked before being wrapped up? Or are they cooked at all before being wrapped in the banana leaves? Thank you very much!
My rice and mung have been soaking already and leaves are thawed out.
look so delicious, I want to buy some, would your mom make for me?
We only get to eat this on special occasion .): I was craving this one day & bought the Viet version , it didnt taste as good as the khmer version. Thx for the vid I'm going to try and make it myself..
The rice weighs 16lbs after it was soaked in water. And I don't know if you saw the whole video. She had some on the side depending which part of the video you saw.
Your mum is gorgeous
i wanna eat thisss! who wanna make this for me
@7:00 the rice wasnt cooked yet? it was just mixed with the coconut and salt, right?
What is the purpose of the lime at 14:27?
You can open them right away once its cooked and eat!!
Wait..so how do you know when it's done and ready to eat after boiling?
You don't. I mentioned in the video how long you'll boil it for, I believe. After that just take one out and you'll have to just open it up and test it out.
yeah...found that out lol.

i wana eat this..they dont make this no more at the asian store =( can u express me some pls??
because the rice looked soft... i was just wondering
There’s a sound in the background as if someone is sharpening something, and it makes hard to watch the video. It’s a good video tho.
Tell your mom, that I said, thank you very much for the next generation. I know the its hard to make but it pay off at the end.
hey i'm not trying to say anything bad but you should help her out on the labor part like gaining the coconut meat out n chopping the coconut i hate to see om get hurt you know no offense keep it up tho
