I've been in graphic design school for.6 years years now (im taking my time give me a break 😂) and this just saved my life for a project I'm working on!!!!
This was exactly what I needed. I had a client that was a pain in the arse about the points on her scallop, this helped and got her off my case :) thanks
Thank you for this tutorial! Clear and straightforward, but I do have a question. Any reason why "Flatten Transparency" should be used instead of "Expand Appearance"? They seem to have the same result.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! I subbed as well! I like your teaching style. This is going to come in super handy when I make my ephemera sets!! Woot Woot
Hi. When I reach the part where you flatten the transparency, it's no longer filling in the center in the latest version. I can easily fill it in with a circle, but is there an easier way than having to fill in the gap in the middle? The shape that it makes now looks like a wreath, rather than a circle with scalloped edges.
Amazing, thank you! I did run into one issue and idk if it's because Illustrator has changed a lot in the past 5 years or not. After doing the "Flatten Transparency" (even when using all of the same settings as the video), unless I already had the fill colored in like the outline, "Unite" doesn't fill in the shape like in the video. I've made it work just by having a color selected for the Fill, but am I doing this wrong? Or has illustrator just changed that much? (I'm using Illustrator CC 2020)
Thanks for this! But when I get to Pathfinder > Unite stage, result is a flattened, filled ring with a hollow center - a compound path. I don't get the nice solid circle with scalloped edges.
+Bruce Colthart Before you go to Unite, try choosing Object > Expand instead of Flatten Transparency. That used to work for older versions of AI. Then the Pathfinder > Unite should give you that shape. Hope that helps!
+One Minute Digital I'm getting the same effect either way that I convert the dashed stroke. I can work around it, but I liked how it worked for you better.

I thought at one time Photoshop had scalloped shaped ellipses in it, but CC seems so far, thank you for the tip. Needed it.
Thank you for this quick tutorial!
Excellent tutorial. You can also use Ctrl + F (PC) or CMD + F (Mac) to paste in front when making the flower.

Instead of Flatten Transparency, try Object > Expand Appearance, Object > Expand

I have Illustrator 25.2 - when I go to the Pathfinder then 'Unite' it does not fill my circle like yours.
thanks
Thank you!

+One Minute Digital Ah, okay - I had to first Release the compound path that was created, then Unite.
+Bruce Colthart Great - and now you will find making bubbly shapes strangely addicting....Thanks for watching!
how to made this on Ps?
Nice trick, but It seems that doesn't work in Illustrator 2020 (v 24.2.3)
Well... I was looking for something way different. This didn´t help.
