Hailing from south Louisiana, as a fellow mechanic but one without a lift, I just jack up the passenger side tire, set the vehicle on jack-stands, remove the tire, remove the fender liner, and the compressor is staring you right in the face with room to get to the nuts for the hoses and everything. Plus as a added bonus, no need to reach over from the top and fight with the serpentine belt whatsoever to install the compressor whatsoever. I imagine with a lift, you can do it even faster than what i can. This tip works with every ford f-150/f-250 from 1998-2010 with the 5.4 triton engine for the 2-valve and the 3-valve engines. Hope this tidbit of info helps you with any future a/c compressor replacements in the future, as well as anyone else who reads this comment.

A guy with a small company could buy six of them and let the workers tear up the county roads to the drilling rigs, a tank of diesel in the bed. And yes, sometimes stuff three grown men on that bench seat!

If you need to install a nut or bolt that's hard to get to but you get a socket on an extension there easily, take a piece of paper, put it over the end of the socket and then stuff the nut/bolt into the socket with the paper in between. @larryberry2436 these particular fords have a clutch bushing that tends to shred itself once it gets old and dried out, a new clutch is $100 and you just need to take the belt off, then zip one 8mm out put the new clutch on zip it on and you're done. About 5 minutes and don't even need to put it on a lift. A compressor is just over $500 then all the labor associated with removal flushing the system and topping off the refrigerant can run upwards of $1k.

I was a little surprised they didn't want a belt change too. I went to a community car show last year and there was an old mack cube truck, I'm talking 1960s, and it had propane powered engine and air conditioning. It came from Florida. There was also a 1950s armored car that had air in the armored box, and the original refrigerator was ammonia. We had am old window air conditioner that also used ammonia. I'm told it did an excellent job , but could poison people with even a pinhole leak. That was based on an old GMC ww2 cargo truck with an upgraded engine and transmission. Not to mention seating lol. Those old war horses typically gad just enough padding to call it padding until any butt used it.

Clearances have gotten tighter in the running gear of modern autos and trucks. It looks like clearances have also gotten tighter between component and body/frame as well. I don't think my hands would fit into the modern auto's cavities to change out parts. Glad I' retired and can enjoy watching over your shoulder as you maneuver your hands through the restrictive channels of the modern auto and truck. Enjoy your videos. You don't edit out the "whoopsies" or the "uh ohs" ether. Thanks for you efforts.

@@mikesewell6364And they don’t matter why? They certainly matter to the system. Do I know how to add rings? Do I know when it’s safe to reconnect the electrons? Do I know how to add oil? If you get to say what random bits don’t matter you can save Ray time and say none of the bits matter. Then Ray could video himself looking out the door into the lot saying “That red one needs struts”, moments later, walk past the door in the other direction saying “That red one got struts”.

One thing I will never understand is people not servicing the check engine light. I believe it just snow balls your issues. I currently drive a 2012 ford explorer with 238,000 miles, no engine lights, and would drive it anywhere. If you don't fix issues when they come up you really don't know how long vehicle will last. Not blaming Ray, he can only fix what customers want fixed, I just don't understand those customers. Great video Ray!

I don't disagree I just know that fixing issues as they come up, performing proper maintenance means vehicles usually last longer and provide more reliable transportation.
