I was folding laundry during this the episode and I felt like Dr. Olson was talking directly to me. I have 4 little girls and a husband in the bishopric so life can get pretty stressful and busy. I often feel like I’m not doing all I need to do to make Heavenly Father and Jesus proud of me. I appreciate my now new perspective on grace and knowing that They are always proud of me and that I am doing good things, because of the grace of Christ. ❤

I have always gritted my teeth when Isaiah comes around. This is the first time that I have not only understood but Enjoyed these scriptures, and Sis. Olson is the reason for this transformation. I remember watching her on the BYU BofM study round table. I FaceTime Come Follow Me with friends in Utah, and they will be very surprised at my "conversion". I turned them onto your podcast and we now listen to you exclusively. Thank you for your insights and great guests.

For me, these Isaiah chapters" have always been a part to be “waded through, plodded through, just get through so you can get on with the rest of the story." And I felt the same way about all the teachings that Nephi gave as he concluded the “reading” of Isaiah’s words.
But thanks to your podcast, I have understood these chapters a tiny bit better, and they are glorious, even in our limited understanding. Last night my husband and I read chapter 25 in 2 Nephi, and I understood more than I ever have before. It felt like an epiphany. Nephi wasn’t just writing a bunch of very long sentences; he was prophesying and testifying of the Savior. It was a real eyeopener. I am so thankful for this podcast. Thanks to you and your guests who help us understand so much more than ever before. And this week with Dr. Olson was just as wonderful.

I am a regular listener of your videos. I have found it interesting that when you introduce guests like today Camille F. Olson you went over her education but never said where she received her education. I noticed it when a few of your other guests that their education was described but not where they went to school. Yet with other guests you go into detail that they went to BYU for their BS MS and PHD. I am one of the 15 million people that didn't go to BYU and am interested in where these other people received their education. Thank you for bring all of these highly education scholar's

you gave a great response Dr Olson. I hope we'll all consider there's a little more to their question we may not be understanding so a little shift in the paradigm might help. President Nelson said repent in Greek is metanoeo, it means to change your heart mind and soul. Over and over the Book of Mormon prophets speak about conditions of repentance. So what people need to understand is we are no longer keeping the law under conditions of the law but under repentance. He allows us to practice for heaven. He allows us to learn heaven. That's what the atonement does is it frees us from the burdens of the law, and allows us to learn why the law is there and why God just wants us to come home.

I’d like to add a thought to Isaiah’s oft repeated phrase ‘but his hand is stretched out still’ which you covered in 2 Nep.19 (+15 & 20).The Book of Mormon says in a few places that this is a hand of mercy and not judgement as suggested. My refs are Jac.6:4-5, 5:47; 2Nep.28:32. I’m not trying to be controversial, but just love this message of patience and mercy.

She's absolutely correct with all the context. I've searched this myself and came to the same conclusion. What's cool is then considering what the sons of Ammon taught the Lamanites. They taught them the creation, fall, and atonement. What else did they teach? A restoration of what really happened from Lehi and down to Nephi and Laman and the teachings of Nephi. So what did the Lamananite converts learn? What did they walk away with from this context of all we can do? Check out Alma 24:11
"behold... it has been all that we could do... to repent of all our sins... it was all we could do to repent sufficiently before God that he would take away our stain."
So what did they understand? All they could do was repent before God and cease to continue in their sins. They didn't interpret it as they needed to work, the interpretation was to repent.
So is that really different than what Protestants believe? Absolutely not!
Also if you read all of that context of Nephi it actually sounds similar to Pauls speech from Romans 1-8.
The two men are speaking to two different audience's. Paul to converts, Nephi to those not yet converted. You don't speak to the two audience's the same way. So comparing Ephesians and 2 Nephi doesn't make sense.

  • @kyleb6616

It is true that we can not save ourselves and that it is only the grace of Christ that saves us. But it is conditional. "After all we can do" or more clearly stated that it is conditional on repentance, which ultimately means obedience or turning away from sin. There is no measurement like 90% or 70% obedient. It is really about DESIRE to be faithful and obedient. (Where is your heart) The execution of that will look very different for each individual.

Not necessarily. If it is diseased, it can spread the disease. Branches can get in the way of the workers who are pruning and caring for the tree. In our day deadfall can be fuel for fires that burn down the forest.
