You see? The problem with music today is that not enough musicians can smile while jammin...music with no joy has no soul...I love seeing their happy faces!
two masters of their respective crafts layin' it down. mad respect for these two.
I'm addicted to the sound of the bass must of listened to it at least 100 times over
You can do so much with that song. They were both being nice, but it was elegantly simple. Awesome professionals.
2019. With admiration and respect.
guys just smoke a bowl, relax and listen to the video. I can listen to this and totally enjoy it regardless of what my musical preferences are. There's no need to instigate the age old conflict of why 'my music is better than your music' etc. If you're listening to this and feel the need to do that than you've missed the point entirely.
That much talent in such close proximity in one room might be a fire hazard.
He means that musicians like these can play what they are feeling.
Victor makes the bass TRULY come alive.
Simply Amazing! Carter Beauford & Victor Wooten really express them selves through there instruments with there own voice.
Carter, I sware to God I didnt unerstand one word you said, but man, your drums just cause my soul to melt.
truly two of the best at their instrument/craft in the modern era.
Listened to this clip 12 times in a row, an endless fountain on inspiration :)
wow i was just thinking that carter was my favorite drummer and victor was my favorite bassist but i had no idea that they played together. this is sweet!
Brilliant, just brilliant. I love how much empty space there is, you don't even realize that these guys are playing at a really high tempo.
Can not tell where Carter ends and Victoria begins... Class act!
my god.......pure awesomnessss...only the best to victor and carter
TH-cam finally got a "recommendation" right! Great video. I haven't met Carter, but I've met Vic, and I was very impressed with his attitude. He's as real as they get, and he is all about the music. I can't wait to see the Seattle show next month!!
I have never enjoyed the bass and drums like this before! BEAUTIFUL!
People have no idea how amazing Carter is, just because he only plays for Dave Mathew’s doesn’t mean he can’t do more on the kit. Theirs nothing other drummers can do that Carter can’t do himself, if he wanted to leave his band, he will still be extremely successful
Saw Victor alive last month with Dennis Chambers. What a treat!
Victor is one of the BADDEST bass players on planet Earth
This is an older video. Carter is playing A customs here. The new Zildjian line has that same big, cursive A on the A's and A customs now, so the brilliant new beats look alot like A customs. He's probably playing A customs here because they are more sensitive and less clangy for this mellow session.
Victor Wooten is AMAZING...
this guys are simply GENIUS!
Beauford's technique really is stunnin (he has to be ambidextrous), and while i dont play bass myself it sure does sound groovy.
William DuVall, Vernon Reid, Victor Wooten and Carter Beauford would make the greatest supergroup ever!!!!
Wooten.... Best bass player in the business
I cannot tell you how much I agree!
Fantastic!!!
@MarkHarrellJr i agree to some extent, but just because you arent smiling doesn't mean you arent loving every second of it. I love drumming I just get so locked in when i play that i can't really crack a smile. But i feel what you're saying i love to see people visibly enjoying themselves when they play.
this makes me happy
agreed! if you cant feel the music then you're not really playing anything if theres no heart and sould behind it.
this sounds good
So good!
Please universe let a Victor Wooten and Danny Carey collaboration happen!
Beautiful
that's beautiful
they are very unique musicians
Yes Sir!
Death metal has no soul, but classic metal and classic prog have tons of it.
i just love watching ronaldinho on the bass
@noah112234 actually they play MOST of it in 5/8... they play in 6/8 too, from 1:10 for about 20 secs :)
is this in 5/4 time ? wtf?! awesome.
Have you ever heard the Before These Crowded Streets album? Listen to The Dreaming Tree.. listen to Crush. Stefan's bass sets the tone of the entire song. lten to Rapunzel and the bass fills in it. He may not be the best bassist in the world but he can sure as hell play and he sure as hell belongs with the group. Besides that, he's playing with Carter Beauford, you can't play extremely complicated over top of what Carter plays and expect it to groove the way he does.
they both make it sound like there's two of them
sweet!
I'll definitely agree with you there.
@mabilisable He has a signature stick with Pro-Mark. A bit lighter and smaller tip than 5A if I recall correctly. Tried them out for a while. Pretty good!
5:34 . The #1 reason Victor should be playing bass in DMB.
@Asymmatrix Ha, ya, he's cool, calm, and collected. And amazing.
@davemathews48 Hard to tell. It's obviously either a Zildjian K or Zildjian K Custom. If I had to guess I'd say a 20" Zildjian K Custom Dark, though it could possibly be a crash cymbal. He changes his setup often, and this one is obviously quite more scaled-back than the one he uses with DMB.
5/4 at 3:23 and 6/8 at 5:08
@fcbtim the drummer is playing with his hands open, as opposed to crossed. Most drummers play closed hand.
simplesmente sensacional...
very cool
This is how music is played MTV
Altos musicos, que buena onda por diosss!!
9 dislikes? It makes me laugh HAHAHA
@davemathews48: It's hard to tell, though it's obviously either a Zildjian K or K Custom. If I had to guess I'd probably say a 20" K Custom Dark Ride. It also could be a crash though.
I love those hi-hats! what kind are they?
Ahhhhh..... Carter pulled the double time on Victor after he asked him to play that ten years earlier in a session.... and Carter threw him the look.
LA GALAXY!
Beauford lays down some of the fattest grooves today.
Groovin'
I agree. Music is subjective.
2:54 me: "wait what? why'd you stop playing!"
Meus Deus, só monstro...
@MarkHarrellJr But remember...music played on a level like this is about concentration...some mucians looks like they are clowns whenever they play..some dont...but the joy and good feel is still the same...
@DMBtomp is right. It alternates between 5/8 and 6/8.
Wait, music on MTV? When?
@TheHandclaps It was a reference to the number of dislikes for the video.
There's music on MTV?
whhooot! cool basser
i could jam hours and hours with him :D
@PartyMartyDrums There may not be an advantage to playing one over the other, but if you can play both ways that can be a huge advantage.
@kewlguy323 thats Simon Phillips dude!
muy bueno
@ZZDROSS No, it's important to have a truly infectious joy. Heartless music is empty.
@MrFootball102 Did all those big tough guys on the football field knock the sense out of you?
@DEEECKED is there any specific advantages and disadvantages to playing open/closed hand? simply a matter of preference?
God, I hate you Carter Beauford...
'cause I envy you...
'cause I admire you...
'cause I love you...
...aww, Great.
o máximo nível de música que axhei fora do metal e rock progressivo
@jacclar i thought u mean the "stars" for this vid but u mean the tempo ;p ok
Not necessarily a lot of music requires "soul" to have joy. The Prog genre or the Metal genre are big examples are "having joy with no soul". Although it does boost morale to have "soul"
Can hear a lot of Billy Cobham influence in Carter's playing on this.
@ctdjazz According to what I've always heard and known, open-handed playing is when you lead with your left hand on a right-handed setup or viceversa, nothing more...
@DMBtomp
i tought they play it in 5/4
how to differentiate wether it's 5/8 or 5/4?
@Sharpshooter226 Thank god he's playing Remo now
Are you kidding me... Progressive music has some of the most soul in the rock genre. Please don't make accusations about music you clearly don't know much about.
what kind of drumsticks is carter using??
@kewlguy323 He would humbly disagree because he grew up listening to cats like Billy Cobham and Simon Phillips
@kewlguy323 hi whats open hand technique?
13'' A custom New Beat Hi hats they're so crisp. :)
It's clearly in 6/4.
@jacclar i know my bad i thought u mean the "stars" for vid but u mean the tempo ;p ok i know now
Seriously? I listen to ELP, Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, a little bit of Camel and most of all Rush. I am talking about "requirements of joy" here, which in Prog isn't necessary because of the joy it brings playing it and listening to it. YES there are soulful things in Prog, if you catch the drift. My argument was 3 fuckin months ago that it isn't "required" to have soul to have joy, which I bring in with Metal and Prog , since it feels at times soulless (at least to me) but full of joy too
how restricted carter must feel on that drum set lol
@LeoTadde ive seen lefties do that if theyre playing a normally set up drum set
@MarkHarrellJr Yes its very importent that all musicians looks like they have been to a circus just before they enter the stage....
The hi Hats are New Beats, Zildjian says they're new beats they're new beats... No question about the. The A that you refer to is used to signify both the A Zildjian and A Custom Lines that Zildjian offers they both use the same logo the customs just Say "CUSTOM" under the logo, if you will stop being so Obstinate and go directly to the source you will see that they are infact "A New Beat Hi Hats with a Brilliant finish" zildjian.com lays it out nice and clear.
