    Actually, for engaging parking the order is this:
    -Depress the brake
    -Put the car in to Neutral
    -Pull the handbrake/footbrake lever and let it take the weight of the car
    -Engage Parking.
    Most handbrakes have enough rollback to still cause the issue if they are not allowed to take the strain first.

    Very educative content. Thank you. I have two questions: first one is when is it appropriate to use the low gear (L) on an automatic vehicle and the other question is you have talked about modern automatic cars, which ones are they or in which year of manufacture category do they fall into?

      Low gear is used for steep hills and when you notice that the vehicle lacks power when climbing the steep hill. The Low gear provides more torque which is helpful in these kind of situations. After climbing the steep hill, you can put it back to Drive "D".

  • @tomm487

    The point on towing is on point. The crazy part is how it ruins the transmission. What happens is that the drive wheels, be it front, back or all when turning during towing actualy turn the oil pump in the transmission creating oil flow through the transmission. The longer the distance towed, the hotter the transmission oil gets and since there is little active cooling through the trans oil cooler via natural airflow and powered fans when the car is off, the fluid gets easily overheated and burnt and loses lubricity. Next time you drive it you end up destroying the transmismission clutch packs and thus the transmission.

    Great content. Something of note and questions I have.
    Que 1. I use Low gear (1) during vehicle jams. Is this advisable and economical?
    Que 2. How to use gear (2) or sport to overtake in automatic. Its not like manual so I need the help?
    Que 3. Order of parking is Brake, Handbrake and Parking. Are the following still okay?
    A. Holding the brake, engage parking, then handbrake.
    B. Holding the brake, engage neutral, handbrake then parking.
    Que 4. What's the order from parking to moving? Is it the reverse or is there an order ?
    Que 5. During a long duration jam is it bad to still have the vehicle on drive while in a slug movement?
    Thank you

    • @tomm487
      @tomm487 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1- Being an automatic, there is no point of shifting to low gear in a jam. Leave it on drive. Low gear is for driving on very steep hills when you need maximum torque at low speed and also slowing the car down in very hilly descents where you are trying to keep brakes from overheating and fading..like driving on number one gear in a manual car.
      2- To overtake in an automatic, just stomp on the accelerator and the car will automaticaly downshift gears to increase the torque for acceleration no need to downshift by hand like a manual though some automatics have that feature.
      3- The sequense suggested are advisable when parking on an incline.On a flat surface, stoping then putting the car in park, then pulling the handbrake is OK. Sequence B is also Ok
      .4- From parking there is no need of a sequence.
      5- In a jam the transmission is designed using its torque converter to stay in drive at a stop so there will be no harm in keeping it in drive. If it's uncomfortable to keep your foot on the brake for too long, just put it in park then back to drive if you have to go.

    Thanks for the safe driving tips. A Probox VVTI and a Fielder CVT which is more fuel economy?

    • @peterngeti9755
      @peterngeti9755 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vvti is engine valve lift timing tech. It exists in both the Fielder & the Probox. These 2 vehicles share the 1NZ engine (1500cc). The probox however also comes with 1300cc engines, which is a bit smaller in comparison to the 1500cc 1NZ-FE standard on the Fielder.
      CVT is a gearbox type that uses a belt to transfer motion from the input end of the gearbox to the output... Nowadays, most fielders (from 2006 i suppose) and Proboxes share this gearbox too. Your question (economy) here boils down to engine power to the particular vehicle's weight. The probox is lighter in weight than the fielder so if they happen to have the same engine & gearbox the probox will emerge more efficient & it will use less fuel to pull its weight than the fielder. There is a catch however: bigger engines do not strain when pulling their vehicles' weight the way smaller engines do. Loading conditions and nature of driving (hard accelerations vs lighter ones ~ yani ukiwekelea mguu kwa accelerator kama mawe itakunywa zaidi than when u place ur foot there lightly), plus anticipated acceleration vs coasting on the highway all determine how good or bad ur vehicle's fuel economy will be!

    I understand your concern on driving with two feet. It's a popular one. However I believe it is a popular misconception. I have driven with my right leg alone and with both legs and I know that driving with both legs gives more control. It is not what rookies do. On the contrary, I think you will drive more professionally when you have your right leg dedicted solely for acceleration and you left leg for the brake. It is better to have each leg playing a particular role than for one leg to be multitasked and alternated between the brake and the accelerator while one is completely idle. The only risk is that a rookie may wear out his brakes faster but I think it is a smaller price to pay than repairs for bashing your car or someone else's car when you lose control.

    As always, good job guys. Now I have two questions. First, in 2020 I killed the gearbox on a 2007 Toyota ISIS by towing a broken down friend for like 20kms. Mechanic said autos are not meant for towing, but I see all modern heavy duty pickups come with autos. Was my gearbox already on its way out or did I kill it that day by towing.
    I love me manual transmission cars. I have an old 504 that's never had its gearbox serviced as far as I know. A few clutch replacements and diff oil top-ups, that's it. Autos should have ATF replaced every 40K kms or so. Should I be doing more for that old manual gearbox?
