    Watching this at 2018 now. I miss the old Zhang Jike so much. He was a monster on World Stage.

    on my previous note though - second thoughts - I would clarify if zhang jike decides he wants this match - he can make it happen - he gets lazy on footwork etc and takes play lightly often - when he gets serious - and his rhythm gets going - he makes it look effortless.

      Ma Long was better player, but he couldnt play on big stage like he play on smaller tournaments.. i watched till this championship and Ma Long literary kill everyone everywhere but on dose big cups he couldnt win.. and i know someday he will demolish all them.. and after 12 years i come back and see that Ma Long is goat 😊. Im so happy for him coz Ma is realy the goat. But my favorute
      Was Wang Liqin.. watched him 2011.. what a beast.

    Wang Hao got the highest quantity of joining finals, three times Olympic Games, two world championships, seven times World Cup, a total of 12 times, but only took four titles, winning rate is only 33.3%.

    I like how Wang Hao is more reserved compared to most of the other pro table tennis players. No loud celebrations after he wins the point.

      Zazen forever Wang Hao also sometimes yell and It's not bad. It's indeed really good for competing and strenghten your mental and physical aspects, like in Martial Arts.
      In martial arts the aim is to use benefits of Chi (Ki) (Internal Energy of life)

    Because they want to win the match, they will play extra hard, i.e. the 2011 Austrian Open final. That was one of the best matches ever. Thus, it will be a good match to watch for the viewers like us.

    if i were wang hao i would be so sad.... i don't like too much his playing style but he's the one who most deserve the 1st place.

    i wouldn t be surprised if this match was appointed :( and the semifinals also. Chinese used to do this in the past.

    2003 was emotional because underdogs made it to final.
    Top it off with relatively low level play in final where a speedglue champion was looping against a defender whole match.
    Joo sae hyuk should have won though.
    Regarding this year's final, what to say, zhang jike is just that damn good. He makes it look very easy. Crushing Xu xin was a good highlight.

    Zhang Jike is quite good. Now 2 time world champion and olympic champion and still just 25 yrs of age. Sympathy for Wang Hao tho. Shit 3 times olympic silver and 2 time world singel. Still, he has 1 world single titel from 2009. Three finals in a row. That´s something.

    The black side is the spinni side.. you get more spin in the ball... the red side is the powerful side with more speed.. The chinese take for example the red side to smash the ball ; )

    Wang was close to retirement at that time, however, Zhang was in top status. No doubt that Zhang could win. And also, Zhang had been Wang's trainee for at more than 6 years before this.

    Zhang Jike uses black as forehand, correct? At 2:28 he flips to red after the serve, anybody knows why?

    Shakehand is not as deadly as penhold, but every great penhold player will have exactly one shakehand nemisis that he can't overcome. The fact that they are teammates and knows each other inside made it worse for Wang.

    It's always that Zhang Jike beats Wang Hao, Wang Hao beats Ma Long, and Ma Long beats Zhang Jike. If only Ma Long played Zhang Jike, and Wang Hao played Ma Long in the final. That way, he would have won.

    Nope...extra harder means less rally, more mistakes, since every shot is a risky killer blow
    Rally type of player like Ma Long just isn't good for big occasions...

    Wang hao has in his head lost to zhang jike forever it seems - and its so weird because he always wins against Ma Long (mostly) - and Ma Long has beaten zhang jike so many times in tight matches... weird it is...

      +meditating010 Actually Ma Long has a better head to head record against both of them if you include chinese tournaments. He used to lose to Wang Hao in the WTTCs because he was not mentally strong at that time, tahts it.

      Reinaldo Pessoa Because there were no major tournaments in 2010. Except the WTTTC, where he even lost to Timo Boll.
      He lost in all the 3 WTTCs to wang hao because he was mentally not that tough, despite being the better ranked player.

      +Blitzkrieg37 Wang Hao is really not strong mentally. 3 failed in the final Olympic. 2 Failed in the final WTTC. The only WTTC he won in 2009 when rival is Wang Liqin, who 31 years old.

    The last WTTC in Paris (2003) was a lot more enjoyable to watch. It was watching athletes play their best and with emotions! This years men's finals is like watching 2 players...well...play a game... :(

    More rallies and less mistakes are not necessarily good. People who know TT well understand the beauty in each stroke. Chinese TT players are usually good enough to hit the ball "well" and "safe". Ma Long is more than capable of finishing the point with one stoke. The reason he isn't good sometimes is he wasn't tough enough mentally, but he is much better now.
