You dont need that contraption though. Just any big pot or kettle. Get you a cast pot, season it, put some oil/popcorn/sugar inside, and throw it over a fire. Thats all people like the amish ever do and they make some of the best you can find. Although any decent sized pot or wok would probably work for kettle corn

I've been doing kettle corn for 24 years, wow I have never seen that much oil put into a kettle. Maybe two cups is all you need. I put my sugar in before it pops and I have no problems it Glazer's the popcorn really good. My kettle is just a little bit bigger than yours. We both put about the same amount of popcorn in there and sugar. I do a lot of shows, couple of my shows there's more than one kettle corn popper, and I have the lines. I have four people in my booth helping me. One cashier and three people bagging. Sometimes I get so busy I don't have time to tie the bags. I give them the bag of popcorn and a twist Tie. I carry four different kinds of twist ties with me. Because when people walk by I know if it's my popcorn or somebody else's. If they have the same bags I do.

I pop all mine on site. The state and county that I live in it all has to be made on-site. I also raised my own popcorn, the rest of it I sell to Weaver. When I first started doing kettle corn and had to buy popcorn it was $9 a bag, where I live now it was selling for $31 a bag. That's why I grow my own. The price of oil skyrocketed. So did the salt I use a special sugar and salt I will use nothing else

After the fact = researched & read that it's a Teflon thing!!!!! 😢 Trashed that thing & all of my Teflon kettles & frying pans; & went to stainless steel & cast iron. Luvvv cast iron best - 7 pieces.
Tried popcorn in the big cast iron skillet, but it's too heavy for me to constantly shake it so that the popcorn doesn't burn. The cupboards are stuffed with kitchen doo-dads - LOL - no room for a wok, except in the garage. Sooo ... it's hopeless ... sticking with ½-chewy air-popped popcorn, I guess. Idk 😢
