Not sure why people bag Marianne, for someone in there sixties celebrating 50 years in the business.. 20th album collaborating with highly respected artists.. she is doing pretty good !!!
Brilliant !!! Can't wait to buy the new album!! My parents used to play the cassette of This Little Bird, then Broken English which I still play now... Marianne is amazing in concert as well !!
Marianne, what a legend! Not many acts from the 60s have as much grace or stayed as relevant musically. Only other one I can think of is Bowie… Amazing performance!
Garrett PJ Epp and John Cale and Brian Eno too! She's not from the 60s, but early 70s, but also Patti Smith (recently ended a project about another legend, the german singer Nico)
Caught this on Later and fell in love with it straight away. Every time it comes back up on my playlist it sounds as good as the first time I heard it. Marianne/lyrics brilliant, Calvi is fugging tip-top.
I was playing on the streets some years ago & she gave me a tenner. Total legend, BTW, many more who are famous, do not give you the time of day. Not her, total class. Read her book , a real eye opener
L ho sempre invidiata x la sua storia con Mick Jagger. Era bellissima e anche ora ha un grande fascino. Non era semplicemente una bella statuina ,ha dimostrato di avere grande personalità.
She's had 2 great albums, self-titled(2011) and One Breath(2013), both nominated for Mercury awards. It took me a little to warm to her voice, but I had the opportunity to see her live and she blew me away. The theatricality, the artistry, she was simply amazing, and it seems like she's only improving. This song doesn't display her guitar playing very well, but she is very skilled. One of the few women who both play guitar and sing these days. I would check her stuff out if I were you, ask me if you want anymore info , cheers!
Marianne Faithful had such a sweet beautiful voice before she ruined it with drink, drugs and maybe swallowing too much toxic semen. The shift in octaves started in the early 70's and her voice has become considerably lower and gravelly. Tom Jones on the other hand has a voice that's still as pure and as powerful as it's always been because by his own admission he never indulged in the drink and drugs that some of the artists ruined their vocals and looks with.
PhotoGraphicDesign, Maybe if I hadn't heard her voice and loved its purity in her earlier years I might not find the drastic change in it so noticeable.
+Julie ‘JulieTheRockChick’ hermiz Ilove her mature voice, it gets darker every year, but i can hear that she is not smoking at the moment, it gets higher at the moment.....but about 2 weeks from now i can hear it on her gig....
What the hell....this is embarrassing she just cant sing (well not anymore) i am going to be honest and brutal she was an icon of the 60's Sometime a person has to say its time not to sing publicly anymore. I was 9 years old i rem seeing her on TV in the 60's and thinking i hope she will be my girlfriend one day when i grow up, and that is even before i knew what i could do with a girlfriend ( well Kids back then were very innocent ) she should always be looked up as an important part of an era and her singing on stage today is not doing her any favors specially the younger adults who dont remember her.
Roberto Doveris Oh come on mate lets face it she cant sing. Now close your eyes and think about it, would you or the BBC give her the light of day if she was not Marian faithful?
This is so dreadful. She was never a brilliant singer but to embarrass herself like this live on national TV is heartbreaking. She's now proved she couldn't carry a tune in a paper bag.
Oh you're really one to judge. She's got more talent and experience than you've got. If she's so crap, then why the hell is she still prominent in music 50 years on? And why have so many talented musicians collaborated with her? Such as Roger Waters, Metallica, Lou Reed, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave and more.
Doesn't depends? She was a completely different singer in the 60's, just listen to her version of As Tears Go By. I read your comment before I watched, and maybe thanks to that I was somewhat pleasantly surprised. I've seen clips of her performing drunk/high, or whatever, and that's more "embarrassing" than seeing an artist celebrating 50 years in music as a last chapter.
Still Love her voice 💝💝 Top,top 🎸💋🎸
I love the rawness of Marianne's voice. She could sing me the phone book!
Love this performance and Anna’s solo is unique!
Not sure why people bag Marianne, for someone in there sixties celebrating 50 years in the business.. 20th album collaborating with highly respected artists.. she is doing pretty good !!!
I agree Marianne is already a legend, and Anna Calvi will become our future legend. She is awesome! x

Beautiful guitar playing from the awesome Ms. Calvi.
Brilliant !!! Can't wait to buy the new album!! My parents used to play the cassette of This Little Bird, then Broken English which I still play now... Marianne is amazing in concert as well !!
She is an artist with a lot of charm and charisma and above all great integrity. I admire her.
"great integrity"? Calling singers of today fame hungry "sluts"? With her past??? I wouldn't exactly accuse that woman of "great integrity".
Marianne, what a legend! Not many acts from the 60s have as much grace or stayed as relevant musically. Only other one I can think of is Bowie… Amazing performance!
Another would be Leonard Cohen, whose song "Going Home" is beautifully covered on this most recent album by Marianne Faithfull ...
Marianne is nothing but the greatest. Love her!

hidden4horror thanks. will check those albums out.
2014
All I say it that Anna should focus on her own career...
I've booked to see her at the RFH and must admit I'm regretting it. This is dreadfully sad.
Pressure of her lesbian anna calvi
Can not agree with all the positive statements. Sounds like speaking not singing. Music is good. Poor voice has had it, it's hopeless. Tragic really.

PhotoGraphicDesign really? That's interesting to know, thanks for sharing and i'll definitely check out her recent gigs!
+Julie ‘JulieTheRockChick’ hermiz Sunday i go see Marianne

What a ignorance! Even funny! :) How blind are some people.
some people should retire gracefully , she just sounds like any other old lady, shame
Poor marianne. She used to have such a beautiful voice but here she sounds dreadful. What a terrible waste.
Argentina 2020 Fuerza Marianne!
