Update: used this method for dyeing a wool/cotton/linen blend that was only 40% wool, and it worked BEAUTIFULLY. No bleeding, minimal fading, and no dye on my hands as I knit. I had tried the vinegar and the salt only on plant fibers, but that never worked. This method does. I tried it later on pure cotton with the same success. Thank you Robin!

Super helpful! I've only tried dyeing cellulose fibers twice, with utter failure and moderate failure. Will have to try this.
