    Are charity fundraisers right to target people's emotions?

      I think that for any charity which asks for help it will cause an emmotional reaction , look at
      This article it's playing on people's emotions itself as do pamphlets that we get and tv adverts that we see , i mean if their isn't a human connection to the cause then we won't want to give however we won't get angry at the tv commercial but because it's human interaction we decide it's not ok ,

      Well, there's no logic towards helping a charity, let's be honest, you do it because of an emotional attachment to the cause. Obviously there are boundaries to not cross, but if the Charities are still using professional fundraisers it means they need the money they raise for the cause no?

    I live in Canada and most terrible fundraising experience I've been involved in, as a target, was at work. Working at a large American multinational, there was an incredible amount of pressure put on front-line managers like me to put pressure on my direct reports to give to the United Way. V.P.s yelling at us lowly managers, veiled threats, it was intense! Talking to a friend of mine who worked in public education, he said there was also a fair bit of pressure put on him there to, but not to the same extent.

      Those who can afford to pay, pay a lot (tax burden is highest it has been since just after the war). The government is just very good at wasting it on failed schemes and misallocation.

      @@chrislaurenceleo The richest 10% already pay 50% of all tax in Britain. If those people were all to move to lower tax countries like Ireland, because you raise the tax on them, you've just lost half of all tax revenue. And what will you foolish socialists do then?

    • @Citizen-of-theworld
      @Citizen-of-theworld 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@chrislaurenceleo wealth increase usually comes from capital growth more than income (at the high end at least), usually this is from companies they own becoming more valuable. They are taxed when those share are sold, not simply because the share value increases which can be very volatile. These investments come out of post tax saving, and what would be unfair would be to double tax those savings and investments simply because people have deployed their capital wisely, rather than waste it on rubbish.
      When they are sold these are purposely taxed at a lower rate (20%) because we need to encourage entrepreneurship and further investment. When you disincentivise investors they go elsewhere - they don’t need to invest in the UK.
      Also one of the largest sources of personal wealth growth are people pension savings and primary residence and I’m sure you don’t think those should be taxed as the grow in value as well as at the point of redemption.

    • @Citizen-of-theworld
      @Citizen-of-theworld 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@chrislaurenceleo Also tax for the wealthy hasn’t actually decreased for the rich under the Torys. Income tax has only been reduced at the low end from 33% in 80’s down to 20%. Not at the top end.
      The real failure of the last 20 years has been a catastrophic deceleration in productivity growth in this country.

    My doorbell was cut off a long, long, long time ago (like the galaxy). Did that because I live in Lisbon and there is a Local Rental in my building and the effing tourists just pressed any button... I gave up giving many years ago. Either it's a scam or the money goes to paying the executive salaries. I found out that UNICEF only gives 5 or 10% of what is collected worldwide.
    YT algorithm bombards me with charities...all the time. If I wanted to give something there are a few charities in my country that I could give to.

    I am already forced to give a large portion of my income to charity already every year. They call it taxes, and it already helps to fund hospitals like this one.
    I choose to focus on earning more which means I end up “giving” more to “charity” as a result
