Glad yall still up and at it. Can't we just get 8 more years of jimbo
Texas A &M should be in probation for buying players and their parents with cash under the table !!
@@kevincuzalina3857 irs isn't happy with them
"Because memaw was a real one"
Probably my favorite Pate quote of all time. Flawless in context, still funny without context.
Was gonna say the same thing before I saw this posted in the chat! Hilarious 😂
Came here to say the same thing 😂
Dan Lanning had the smile of a child in a candy store when he talked about the recourses and possibilities of Oregon.
The underbite of a child
It would not surprise me at all if Texas A&M fired Fisher because they already had a "yes" from another HC candidate.
Wouldn’t surprise me
from what I've heard from Billy Liucci (who is the main insider information guy for A&M), we don't have a guy lined up right now. But honestly there's been so many conflicting things being thrown out that it's hard to tell what's true and what isn't
It would surprise me. That university is the king of mismanagement and poor decisions
Would certainly surprise me. Wrong time of the season to fire a coach and expect to have a whale on the hook. Two years ago the AD ballooned the buyout from $20M to $76M. If he was running a publicly traded company he would be out the door.
I think Texas A&M should have Memaw on the hiring short list. 👍
Memaw is winning the ship in year 2.
I think there’s a “your mom” joke in there somewhere
Gig ‘em 👍
Oregon is a fantastic job and I think Dan Lanning will have a ton of success there. As a Georgia fan who loved the job Lanning did in Athens, I hope he eventually leads the Ducks to a national championship. Always kind of liked the Ducks too.
A&M is also a great job. They are located in a talent-rich state, pay extremely well, and have strong facilities and fan support. The fact that past coaches have bombed there doesn’t mean they can’t win more with the right hire. Hopefully they will hire a quality head coach.
People used to talk about UGA the way ppl talk about A&M now. And then UGA hired Kirby Smart......
The rest is history.
Aggie Reaction:
"Then look no further than Lincoln Riley"
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
"to USC"
oh just a comparison
As an Aggie living in College Station I can tell you Josh is right. There will be a statue before the confetti settles of the coach that gets us a National Championship. That person’s name will be the name of ALL the children of Aggies for generations.
Oregon never won a conference title before Mike Belotti (mid-80's). Florida was a sub-500 program with one conference title before Spurrier. Florida State was a girls' school before Bowden. Washington was nothing before Don James. Miami was a nothing school before Schnellenberger and Jimmy Johnson
Mike Bellotti won his titles in the early 2000s. The one before that was 1994. There were five conference titles before that 1994 one under Rich Brooks. I get your point, Oregon wasn't a power. But it's just factually incorrect to say they never won a title before Bellotti. Brooks started it, Bellotti continued it, Kelly took it to another level.
@@kyletucker3811
It wasn’t till Brooks hired Bellotti as his OC in the 80’s that turned Oregon around. Brooks never did much prior to Bellotti. Yes, it turned over while Brooks was the HC, but I credit Bellotti with Oregons rise to where they are now.
@@kyletucker3811Mike Bellotti was the athletic director overseeing the program during the time Chip Kelly was HC. Bellotti is the lynchpin to that program’s rise.
Howard Schnellenberger built up Miami, Jimmy Johnson just kept it going. What Johnson built was a program that has caused people to want to rip them off every chance they get for the last 35+ years.
I like Jimmy, but Jimmy is the reason it's hard to be a Miami fan. Miami isn't good enough to have to beat the teams and the refs anymore.
Oklahoma had already announced it was leaving for SEC which is probably why Lincoln went to SC!😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wait that analogy with the soil was actually really good 😂😂
I'm a LSU and Texas Tech fan, so I'm anything but an A&M fan, and even I know they're a team that's one good head coach away from becoming elite and winning a championship, because they have the money and they have the motivation. Probably a higher total of that combination than any other school in the country.
As an Aggie alum, I think (and I may be, probably likely, talking out of school here) that the motivation you mentioned, plus all those Manziel Bux may have led to a bit of desperation and recklessness. Regarding the Jimbo hire. They went the "Cougar High" route with Sumlin when that was what they could afford, and thought that more money automatically equaled an elite coach with Fisher. It just equaled an expensive coach.
A&M *was* elite for some years in the 90's. That was when they had R. C. Slocum as a HC. So they can get there again if they find the next R. C. Slocum -- I suggest Jeff Traylor.
Anyone who doesn't think Texas A&M is an elite job doesn't know what makes an elite job in college football. Josh is absolutely right when he says it has little or nothing to do with recent trophies or W-L record. It's about the natural advantages that a job has built into it. Texas A&M has more money than God, top tier facilities, and is located in a recruiting hotbed. There are VERY few CFB coaching positions that are more attractive.
They’re an elite job and school. They literally had the highest recruiting class last year, higher than Alabama and Ohio State.
@MadisonClemons8426 it was the highest rated recruiting class since the beginning of the 247sports Era
I think he is jumping around in circles when mentioning this is an elite Job. of course any coach would love to be at that Job because of the money and recruiting, but him saying Texas A&M making the right hire is the key is Obvious. Whenever he mentions Georgia making the right hire with Kirby, I always think that he would win regardless of which big name school he went too. Like imagine him with Florida or LSU they probably win 2 championships too. Where I think Josh is misguided at is when he says Texas A&M just has to make the right hire, which is hard when the top programs already have the guys that win championships I.e Alabama and Georgia. You can insert a great head coach and still only win 9 games in the SEC. Thats just the lane that Texas A&M is in.
The problem is A&M is #2 in the state. So just because its a recruiting hotbed doesn't mean A&M is attractive to kids beyond the money.
Look how well buying a recruiting class turned out for A&M? Perhaps if they spend $500 million a year on recruits they might.... might become a " destination " .
So now they just need to find themselves another R. C. Slocum. (Under Slocum, in the six-year stretch from 1990 through 1995 A&M went 60-11-2 -- yep, that's an AVERAGE of 10 wins per year, something Jimbo NEVER reached. That included an undefeated regular season in 1992 -- only loss was in a bowl game to a Lou Holtz-coached Notre Dame -- and an entirely undefeated season, 10-0-1, in 1994.) I suggest they go get Jeff Traylor. He's proven he can coach, he can recruit the living f+++ out of Texas, and he's undoubtedly looking to move to a place with more resources. A&M has unlimited resources.
GREAT SHOW... LOVE YOUR CONTENT JOSH.... KEEP US UPDATED PLEASE!
Josh Heupel. He coached at Oklahoma who recruited Texas very well.
Having previously been a GA/assistant at Alabama and Georgia, I can see Lanning staying at Oregon and gaining a couple years more experience, and possibly moving into the Bama job once the GOAT retires.
Lanning wouldn't take the Alabama job if offered. No coach in their right mind would want to step into Saban's shoes right after he leaves otherwise they're constantly being compared to and criticized for not being as successful him. It's just a setup for failure. Plus he doesn't really have much personal connection to the program other than being a grad assistant there for a little while. Now if the Georgia job opened up he'd probably consider it but I don't see Kirby Smart leaving any time soon.
That’s Dabo job when Nick leaves if he leaves😂
@@user-sg3xd4dj1p I hope the hell not, Dabo is still playing 2015 football.
@@glenpark4373this is a joke right? Whatever coach that takes over for Saban will have a cupboard full of 5 star talent to work with. Not everyone is a scared pussy to follow greatness. No offense
As a former NCAA power 5 assistant, starting at 9.00 minute mark this is 1000% correct. There is no magic dust. There is right guy lignin up with admin and boosters willing to provide resources. Of course aligning those 3 things is not easy which is why you see so few power houses with staying power. Saying this team can’t do it bc they haven’t or they always blah blah is fantasy for fans who want to believe e that. This video is spot on!!!!!!!!!
The facilities, the stadium, and the housing is the draw. And money is never a problem.
What about the male cheerleaders?
One of my favorite customers is an Alum of A&M, I can always tell when he is calling in too, his caller id shows as: AGGIES RULE!
“Because Memaw was a real one” -Josh Pate 😂😂😂
Y’all heard it here first. Glenn Schumann the Georgia defensive coordinator will be the next Texas A&M head coach. Also a great example of having the right coach/money was SMU in the 70s/80s/90s until the car scandal deal. That was money buying all their players and they had a hell of a squad.
I predicted Glenn Schumann yesterday so you heard it here first first. I’m in the know as I practically raised his kids! 🙃
I think they go after a coach that’s been a head coach. They’re going to hire someone like Elko from Duke, Leipold from Kansas. Another candidate is UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor. The only way Schumann ends up as head coach at A&M is if those other guys turn it down.
@@JS45678 well that would put you in the know. I actually predicted it to be him to all my buddies on Sunday after Jimbo was fired but no one believed me. I sure hope we are right
SMU football was crap in the 70's and dead by the 90's
@@jamestacular I’m only 20, so I couldn’t remember which decade they were the best in, I never actually saw it. I just threw all 3 in there to make sure one was at least right😂
Awesome education from pate..my thinking has been corrected!
I've gotten enjoyment at work this week hinting that the local team's coach would consider the A&M job. The look on some faces of shock 😲 was very nice.
Kirby will need to find a treadmill if he is hanging around 40 more years
"That's like acceptable fall weddings: they don't exist anymore"
Bars.
Though I love to see Aggy nation in disarray, I whole-heartedly agree the job is elite. That's tough for me to say as a lifelong Longhorn fan, but true is true. Thanks for the entertaining takes (especially the reference to Memaw). Horns always Up!!!
Your explanation made more sense in this video than last time regarding the "elite job" vs "elite program".
To compare it to baseball for a second, TAMU reminds me of the Red Sox. During the 86 years they didn't win a world series, they were "cursed", surely they'd never win. Then they got the right people in the right positions and all of a sudden it was a great job and "of course you can win it all in Boston".
The problem now for A&M is that even if they get the right guy, the SEC is going to be more loaded than ever, so it'll be hard to finally win it all
Fair comparison to the Red Sox. On the other hand, the reason most teams winnimg the NC are from the SEC is because of that competition. If you win the SEC, most of the time you have what it takes to beat anyone else.
Baseball isn't football..
A&M will also get to play more current SEC east teams with the change from conferences to whatever we’re doing now
"MI Maw was a real one" needs to be on a shirt 😂😂😂
MeMaw was a real one got me! 😂 💯
I'm curious what Gary Patterson could do with A&M resources and recruiting. I know it won't happen but personally I think it would be a good fit.
always been on the fence about Pate but after this Im on board. Well said on all of this
Dude does the work. This is what professional journalism looks like. When you see how he separates opinion from information, how he supports his opinions with developed facts? Yeah, that's The Job, and he does it very well.
Well said ...good show
Shumann would be my guy if I were making the decision at A&M. He's young but having worked with Saban and Smart and even having Muschamp around gives him so much more experience than any other 34 year old has ever had. Surround Schumann with some experienced assistants and I think he'd be a HR hire.
Born Kirby and Lanning mentored Schumann. Dude is going to be a great HC soon, but I can see A&M being his first landing spot. But if Kirby vouches for him then who knows.
He will be a HC somewhere.
Totally agree, and my Aggies would be dumb to pass on him now & let another program get him.
I was mostly floating Dabo as a joke because I think it would be funny if they hired him, I feel like it could be Jimbo all over again. But Dabo did not say no in that quote 😂
If Dabo can't handle the heat in Clemson, SC, he'll wilt like ragweed in College Station. Please.
Texas A&M is THE TOP coaching job in America 👍🏻
Can you do this for psu offensive coordinator opening?
I personally believe that Johnathan Smith at Oregon State would be a home run. Under the radar but would be scary with those resources
Smith's demeanor doesn't seem like a good ol boy fit here...more of a laid back west coast guy.
I say this as a Baylor fan who felt like Art Briles was scapegoated.
If you want a young coach with enormous potential, who is going to recruit at a high level and WIN:
KENDAL BRILES.
Spot on as usual Josh.
Bro we need you to name names!
Jeff Traylor. Case closed. We don't need a big name splash hire! Traylor is a legend in Texas HS football. He can recruit! He's a young mind and a COACH!
Does Franklin leave Penn St. after struggling for years against OSU and MICH. I could see it being similar to a Kelly to LSU time situation.
Love the content, keep it up Pate. Hmmmm I also wanted to state the Dan Lanning said what he said, but is it crazy that there was a direct flight from Eugene Oregon private air port to College station. Not saying anything but pretty interesting news.
4:30
"there are candidates in play that you don't realize are candidates"... If I can read between the lines a little bit, my mind immediately went to Sark or Venables. It'd be the perfect welcome for Texas or OU to the SEC. And even if A&M had a better candidate, I'd still send those guys an offer just to make their AD's nervous.
"Nobody is going to do what Saban's done".
It may be long odds, but Kirby is certainly headed in the right direction.
Kirby’s in the best position to make that kind of run. He’s the HC of the flagship school in one of the richest high school recruiting grounds in the country. As long as he can continue to own recruiting in the State of Georgia, he’ll never lack for talent.
He will retire by 60. He's fat.
Hopefully not because I want him for my gators but Kellen Moore Chargers OC is a hot name I see thriving in the CFB setting
Texas A&M is absolutely an elite job opportunity. I’m curious what other programs Josh thinks carry the elite job title. Being an FSU Booster, Graduate, season ticket holder and lifetime fan I’d like to understand what other programs have that draw to take elite coach talent. I was a little sad when Jimbo left FSU for TA&M but I’d be devastated if Norvell did the same thing.
Jerry Sandusky
😂
Coach Klein who starred in waterboy is being interviewed...
once josh gets cookin its a sight to behold
Urban and Stoops to be honest should be the coaches being offered seriously for the job or Dabo if you really think you could get him away from Clemson but if by some miracle you could put in a interim coach for next season and get primetime after his sons gets drafted that would be amazing
The first sign a coach is leaving is them saying they're not leaving. I have been watching college football for a long long time and it amazes me how many people still believe a head coach when they say they're not leaving😂
You hit the nail on the head. I agree with you and I am a Longhorn fan! Hookem
I'm gonna say the quiet part you didn't say out loud. Oregon's recruiting strategist was an assistant in the department that recruited A&M's #1 ranked class. He probably still has connections to them. And a few might be looking to transfer. The flight went from Eugene to College Station. 👀
Even if we don't get Lanning, I want that guy back.
I'm curious what you would consider the list of Elite Jobs
Man O man JP, you couldn't be more spot on. I'm a Longhorn fan and I would LOVE for you to be wrong, but you are spot effing on. Money is king.
You make it sound like hiring the best coach is easy. It’s not easy! Ask Florida et al.
Brian Hartline! I hope not...but 'Boom' that would be a superman punch!
Josh knows about memaws. My Memaw was a real one. Gig em
Firing Jimbo was a MASSIVE mistake🤦🏻♂️😩 A&M needs to fire the AD. WTF!!!!
We will see how elite the job is by who leaves their school for College station.
Dennis Franchionne left Alabama for A&M 20 years ago. Jimbo Fisher left Florida State 6 years ago. So 2 of the last 4 hires came from schools you probably think are more elite jobs
Hopefully we can give Glen Schumann an interview. I believe he’s the next Kirby Smart
I'm thinking it's going to end up being Petrino
I think it's it going to be Lanning. When coaches say that they tend to leave lol Ask Brian Kelly
ED O....Former LSU National Champion 🏆? Fill in the blank 🙏.
Fun Fact: Bear Bryant, Gene Stallings, and Jimbo Fisher have a combined 8 national titles, none of which occurred at TAMU. So maybe theres something a bit more wrong with that program than just "they need a good coach"
Excellent point!
can you elaborate? No? Then shut up. Those coaches span like 60 years. There is no common thread other than the name of the school. Jimbo’s title was gifted to him by his golden boy. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
Yeah it’s their culture and admin. Something Josh won’t admit. That place is where overpriced dreams go to die.
A&M was 8-0 and the #1 team in the country when Bear Bryant accepted the Bama job. The year before they had an undefeated season. Jimbo's last three seasons at FSU were riddled with poor offensive line play and dinged up QBs just like he had at A&M. He was just doing it in a weaker conference
I agree 💯 with everything that Josh said about the A&M job
I agree with money being the fairy dust... but the magic elixer to pair with the fairy dust is being located in a recruiting base.
The problem is college station.
The best town around !😊
You've clearly never been to Baton Rouge lately, or Norman, or Austin (today's Austin is a drug and homeless infested hellscape), or Clemson, or Auburn, etc

I will never forgive these doubtful Clemson fans if they push dabo to go.. Dabo is a top 10 college coach all time.
Spoiled fanbase
Was. Man has failed to adapt.
Clemson fan here. Dabo isn’t going anywhere unless bama calls, even then he may not go. Spoiled, yes in a good way. There are always people in a fanbase that want to fire a coach, but that doesn’t mean the entire fanbase thinks that way. We’ve had a down year, but Dabo will get things back on track. Failed to adapt? Sure he failed to adapt to ESPN’s SEC and BiG10 supremacy narrative by beating many of those teams on a consistent basis. ESPN has never recovered from 44-16, and they hate Dabo for it. People seem most upset that he doesn’t use the portal because he happens to believes in his recruiting process. How dare he recruit kids and develop them as opposed to ditching them to bring on portal guys. Dabo has never done things the conventional way, but his way works. Clemson will be back as strong as ever with Dabo at the helm.
Glen Schumann will be announced as head coach after the national championship game
Would A&M ever do what Oregon did hiring a first time HC? That's what makes the Ducks

“Explain Dabo to me.” Ok, in Dabo’s own words, when he arrived and was successful there was an appreciation, not an expectation.” At TAMU, the boosters have huge and immediate expectations. Case in point, Jimbo’s plaque at the introductory press conference.
Yes, TAMU has vast resources, a willingness to invest, and a good conference. To be successful though, the new coach will have to be able to navigate the boosters and their say.
This seems to imply that boosters are overbearing and try to override the coach's decisions, which has absolutely not been the case at A&M. They're excited for sure, but if anything they're excessively supportive of coaches like Jimbo or Sumlin. They gave Sumlin a helicopter to fly into high school games. It's not a hostile relationship due to high expectations. The only issue the boosters cause is that they haven't hired a good coach yet. But a good coach won't have to navigate the boosters
Your point is why I quibble a little with Josh's assessment of the A&M job. There is obviously a lot of good for all the things he mentioned, but your money guys are desperate and want to have their initials on your success, but will have nothing to do with you if you stumble.
If you do get hired as the head coach of TAMU, I hear they have REALLY good severance packages if it doesn’t work out…
You heard it here first! A&M is gonna hire Memaw as the next HC! 😂
If Meemaw was told a bunch of different gardeners over many decades couldn’t grow anything on that land she probably wouldn’t think it was worth the trouble.
Well, it stops being elite to many coaches once they actually visit Collie Town
Throwing out a name here Todd Monken. Former OC at Uga and current OC at the ravens.
The only disagreement I have with you about the Texas A&M job is that they do not check the box of, "Are you the big brother?" Texas is the big brother. In Georgia, UGA is the big brother, Tech, State, and Southern have no chance against UGA.
Texas A&M should hire Jimbo Fisher
Elko is the only one they should be going after. Sec is all about D and he's by far the best out there.
What about Gus Malzahn? He’s a winner, by the books, did a great job at Auburn

NIL jumped aggies job up from top 20 to top 5. It's the state of the sports.
Will Urban Meyer crawl out of hibernation and see his shadow?
Texas A&M needs to hire Brian Harsin
Do you do you remember how like Dan lanning he said he's not leaving Oklahoma
So Urban is unemployed....would he go to atm??
He knows how to grind, but I don't think he is grinding out wins anymore
Danny Ford was stellar at Clemson in the '80s.
A&M is a top job and anyone that thinks otherwise needs to re-examine the facts. A&M has unlimited resources, they're literally one of the richest universities in the country and they SPEND on athletics. They're in the best conference in the country, they're in arguably the best recruiting grounds in the nation, they sell out their games, and they're about 100 miles from two huge cities, both Austin and Houston.
I'm not an A&M fan or alumni, but I do live in Texas.

The aggies would be fools to not hire Traylor.
