  • Nyob Zoo [Hello] Everyone!
Today, my mom and I will be showing how we like to make smoked beef: Nqaj Nyuj Qhaa.
Nqaj Nyuj means beef and Qhaa refers to as the cooking method. Beef is sliced into strips, seasoned, and cooked over wood charcoal for over 1 hr to dry it out a bit and give it a nice smoky flavor. In the Hmong culture, this is a way for us to preserve and store beef when a big chunk of it is given to us by a family member during an event/special occasion. It can also be made any time of the year when we crave it :)
Smoked beef is stored in a bag and be put into the freezer so it can used in soups, stir fry, salads, or just eat it as is. It's fairly simple as long as you have the ingredients and equipments to do so. So I hope you all can give it a try and stay tune for my future videos! I'll be showing you ways you can use up smoked beef. Happy Cooking!
    Happy Cooking!
NOTE: The smoker we used was personally homemade by my uncle for us. It is not for sale!

    About Cindy
My Name is Cindy Her, I am a full time Pastry Chef in the Pacific Northwest and part time food content creator for C.HerCreations (C.HawjCreations). I specifically focus on Hmong food I grew up eating but I also venture into other South East Asian food as well.
As a second generation Hmong American woman, my goal is to teach you what Hmong people love to eat, what we cook, how we cook it, how it has evolved, and how we enjoy it. I want you to learn a little bit more about the Hmong food culture and I hope you all stay tuned on this culinary adventure with me. As always, happy cooking :)

Neat! I tried smoked chuck a few years ago and haven't looked back. Far better than slow cooking in the crock pot. I do them in the weber grill off heat or in the vertical smoker. Both work well.

My parents would smoke beef all the time. My Grandma would then mince it with the Hmong Knife along with some ginger and we'd eat it like that with rice and water.

Cindy, I posted a note celebrating Olympic Gold Medal winner Suni Lee, who is an American of Hmong descent. Why it was deleted I don’t know, unless TH-cam has a problem with linking a TODAY show video describing the support she has had from her family. That story is my favorite of all I’ve seen about her success.
As always, thanks for all The Golds you deliver each week for your own fans.

I saw the video on Sunisa Lee and love it! She's a champion. I don't know where your comment is. TH-cam must have deleted it. But thank you for sharing and thank you for your kind words. :)
