  • On a recent vacation, the plan was to cycle through games of quite a few skirmish games, but instead I just ended up playing a LOT of MCP. I still love Kill Team, but I really do think I prefer MCP to full-size 40k at this point. In this video, I explain what has me digging out my old comics. The 40k-related content will keep coming, but you can definitely expect more from this game in the future!

    Another part of the game that you didn't mention is the ability to play Ultimate Encounters. Two teams going up against Thanos, Dormammu or Ultron for example or four teams going up against each other battling for Symbiotes is a blast and makes it easy to bring in friends who generally doesn't play tabletop games.

    Great review. One thing worth mentioning is that the rules that come in the box set are not the full rules for the game. You have to download the rules from the website to get the complete rules for the game. It’s no biggie, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
    My first time here, so I don’t know if you are familiar with this: if you love 40K, Age of Sigmar, and Warhammer Fantasy, but find it too expensive, have a look at One Page Rules (OPR), and their Patreon. Free rules, and 3D print your own armies, for a fraction of the cost of a GW starter set (both in terms of buying the files to print, and how inexpensive printing the miniatures are).
    I used to play both 40K and Fantasy, around the 4th to 6th editions era of Fantasy, but it simply got too expensive for me. I always wanted to try Necrons in 40K, and I now have the chance, with my collection of Robot Legions for OPR’s Grimdark Future. Also a longtime fan of Wood Elves, and kept all my Wood Elf minis when I got out of the hobby, so I have a huge range of minis to play Wood Elves in their Fantasy settings. I’ve even printed some base converters, so I can swap between round bases for Fantasy, and square bases for Fantasy Regiments.
    Also, their printed miniature ranges make great proxies for 40K and Age of Sigmar, so you can proxy minis for GW armies at a fraction of their cost, in just about any games outside of tournaments…
    How do OPR games play? Pretty well. The rules are tight, but pared down, compared to GW. Also, one huge difference is alternate unit activation - you activate one of your units, carry out its turn, and then your opponent activates one of theirs. Rinse and repeat, until you run out of units, and start a new turn. Definitely changes things up from being wiped out in the first turn, before you even get to move a model…
    Well worth a look as an alternative, or companion, to GW.

    I was watching some MCP gameplay tonight and it did look really quick and easy to play and a lot of fun. Reminded me of One Page Rules gameplay: Play the game, not spend your time looking up rules.
    Would love to see more MCP coverage, along with other quick, easy to play games that put fun first.
    I think GW could make their games more streamlined and fun, I think Warcry and Underworlds seem better designed, but their 40K content is just a mess.

    • @MTFTabletop
      @MTFTabletop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would love to showcase some MCP gameplay, and I will, but it necessitates some more painting on my part.
      I will also agree that GW has made big strides in some of its properties. For whatever reason, alternating activations and 40k are still oil and water. Also, paying $300+ per year for rules updates is nuts. I was encouraged by the quarterly balance sheet, but literally everything else they are doing is pushing me away.

    What I appreciate most with MCP and Kill Team is that you don't have to paint 300 models, for one army... Yes, I do love 30K/40K/Epic, but painting only 10-20 models, makes it so much easier to get it all done.
    Tbh, I wouldn't have minded if the "Crisis Protocol" rules/models themselves had been available for another setting, since I'm just so tired of the bloated M.U.
    Nice and informative video! (y)

    • @MTFTabletop

      After largely going over to skirmish games over the last couple of years, it's hard to imagine painting entire armies in a single color scheme again...

    • @Himle_
      @Himle_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MTFTabletop I fully understand and feel that. Which is the reason why the armies that was started 30 years ago still aren't nearly finished^^
      10 models is my max, when it comes to painting the same. Then I go insane (even is using an airbrush really helps).
      So skirmish or board games is where I put my energy atm.
      But, I do feel that there's something special with seeing the 50+ eldar/space wolves models + machines beside each other.

    I basically jumped ship into this game.
    After playing 40k for about 2~ years on TTS, and about 1~ year in person, I just can't have fun with it. Actually playing the game is fun, but list building feels like it matters way more than actually playing the game.
    I've gone into games where my opponent asks me if I really want to play it out after a round or two, because my 2000pt roster gets shat on by their roster. And Vice Versa, I've had opponents scoop after 1 turn because they realize they haven't picked the right units to deal with my units. That is incredibly unfun. On top of that, In my 1 year of playing in person, I've had to buy:
    Core Rules
    9th codex for my army
    GT 2020
    GT 2021 (I think? I don't remember if it was a 2nd book or not)
    Warzone Charadon (i think this was part 2 of something, I forget but I had to have it for sisters rules I wanted to use at a tourney)
    Warzone Nachmund
    I also got bailed on on half of my games at my LGS weekly league because people didn't want to commit 4 hours for what was 40k in early 2022 (possibly the most unfun period of 40k I've ever played)
    I got into MCP as a side game and now I'm seriously considering selling my 40k army. I don't see myself playing 40k anymore outside of being a fill for my LGS when they need another person for 40k stuff.

      I contemplated getting out of big 40k but sticking with Kill Team. I think I've settled on keeping my Black Templars, but yeah I largely agree. After just a couple of months not actively following every release, I feel almost hopelessly behind.

    Got about two thirds of all current releases, it's a damned fun game. Just still a little trick to get games on the regular locally. But with mcp there is a large table top simulator community. But that said nothing beats it in person seeing those colourful tight wearing miniatures do battle.

      AMG has answered those exact questions in their painting streams. The plastic they use is cast in metal molds, which don't allow for undercuts, so those parts need to be separate, otherwise they'd have to be simplified, resulting in less dynamic poses and reduced detail.

    I've never played any games with mini figs before but have recently ordered MCP, can anyone recommend some starter tools for prepping and painting the figs?

    • @MTFTabletop
      @MTFTabletop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For basic hobby tools, you're going to want a good pair of clippers or side-cutters to get the models off the sprue and a hobby/x-acto knife to clean up any flash or mold lines. For gluing them together, I like plastic cement, as it essentially welds the pieces together, which can help ensure there aren't gaps in the completed model. For paints and painting supplies, there are loads of brands out there. I have become a huge fan of Pro Acryl by Monument Hobbies. There's a link and discount code in the description of this video. Other brands that are quite popular are Vallejo, Citadel, and Army Painter.
