One of the main differences between the UK & US is that the US has never really been invaded or been under the threat of invasion.
My old boss was ex SAS & he made me laugh. He said that while the American is setting up his state of the art weapon the British bloke has killed 3 enemy guys with a spoon.

Having lived for a couple of years in Canada on the east coast. It’s cold very cold, but I remember I could sit on the snow and not get wet through. Here in Britain the cold gets right through to the bone. When it snows here (once in a blue moon) if you sit on the snow in your waterproofs, it seeps through. So your not only cold, but now your wet and getting colder very quickly. It’s such a different type of cold, not so easy to shift. They are not joking when they say it’s muddy, wet, cold to the bone it’s awful!😂🤣😂

Britons have learnt over many centuries that you can win, but you also can loose, so you don't celebrate too much, & you have to accept & adjust at defeat. American are devastated when things don't go their way, whereas we Brits are stoical at reversals, & ready to learn & come back stronger.
The US had the 9/11 events, but Britain had months of continued bombing during WW2, while still sending it's menfolk by sea & air, & on land, to engage a powerful, determined, enemy, without allies, not knowing the outcome, but prepared to fight to the end.

We also had the years of IRA bombing: killing politicians, children buying Mother's Day cards, shoppers, people in pubs, etc. Our military had to be constantly vigilant, checking under their cars and covering their uniforms when going on or off duty. I remember being told that I had to travel somewhere in civilian clothes; I pointed out that I was driving a four tonne lorry with military number plates and Royal Navy in foot-high letters on the side but, no, orders were still orders - no uniform in public. No public litter bins where a bomb could be hidden. Constant vigilance and keeping carrying on.

@@jacquieclapperton9758 indeed. The last IRA bomb in London was only a month or 2 before 9/11.
It was one of the IRA breakaway groups if I recall correctly.

We also learn from our victories, takes the Falklands, we learnt so much from that.. when I joined up in 89 (RN) the way the Navy taught damage control had changed because of 82... We learn when we lose, we learn even when we are successful, there is always lessons to be learned

@@cornishbluebird I remember going on my BSSC (sp?) in the 90s and they checked that we all had flame retardant cotton 8s because of the Falklands. They even told us to wear cotton undies - saying that there was a chef who had had his polycotton t-shirt melted into his skin out there and who was still having treatment.

I went to a school which has one of the highest numbers of Victoria crosses. We had 'houses' all of which are named after people from the school that won the victoria cross (highest medal of valour in the UK). I was sartorius which was 2 brothers that won the cross. Then there was also Bruce, diarmindt, braithwaite and Dunlop. We had what's called a CCF - combined cadet force which trains you in pretty much every discipline. Weapons, reconnaissance, night time activities, light and heavy guns etc. I qualified as a marksman due to the scores I'd take at the range. We had army spec land rovers that we'd have to be able to take apart and put back together in a specific amount of time.

They don't have a universal health service, or infrastructure/transportation is poor, education/teachers aren't well paid, low minimum wages. A country the size of the US with a large populace should have a decent military budget.

Brits have my biggest respect because of holding the line against German bombers when hope was almost gone they still didn't give up in spirit! Of course soldiers from other European countries did their best and even Russia did their part. Then American forces came to take fruits of winning the war for us, that's making me most mad about it(sorry for bad English) But past is past, now we have different problems to worry about😞

The British military have never wanted glorification, they go in get the job done and go home. They very rarely give interviews after any conflict. British Soilders from the the 2 world wars came home and never spoke about their experiences they took their memories of the horror to their graves.

We have the best trained soldiers in the world because we have a small number and we don't rely on our equipment unlike America, the problem is that our numbers are so small now we wouldn't last 6 months against a trained and well equipped military, which is shown in the Russia/Ukraine conflict.

  • @adrianhughes8143

Of course our Armed Forces of the United Kingdom are the best in the World, that is why the Americans will never go into a War without the British Armed Forces. We might be small but we are better trained, better lead and better fighters. Our military are not soldiers but Warriors with thousands of years of expertise handed down for thousands of years to every generation. 💂‍♂️💂‍♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇮🇪🇮🇪 our British Armed Forces are the complete package.

It's hard to be patriotic these day's here when our leaders are the opposite and being patriotic is frowned upon here now, that's 1 thing America does right especially when you get leaders like Trump. We need a leader who wants to put Britain and the British people first, if a leader had the slogan " make Britain great again " and meant it, the majority of us would rally around them, the closest we have is Farage but our system has been fixed to 2 parties for so long it's hard for someone like him to get far, hopefully things are changing though because his support is huge now but the system is corrupt.

American civilians are used too walking into shops restaurants businesses and being treated like royalty , and they expect the same from their military , so when they look at anything military they big it up because they don't understand not being the best , so they turn up with the attitude we are here look at us , but they expect too win , we turn up and know we don't have the best kit don't have the biggest military but we will stick at it till it's done. I do have experience with american military and there has always been a point where Americans realise they are not winning just because they have turned up and it's like they have stalled, and in their eyes you can assess them thinking but we have to be winning we are USA , and that's the downside , if America learnt humility I personally think their military could be what they think it's is. This may not be the best explanation, but I hope you can understand what I am trying too say
