  • @Masonsayshello

    I just agree with the sentiment that a floodgate that can resolve and just linger is bad. If the floodgate is on the field or somewhere where you can interact with it, it’s fair. But when you can’t counter the floodgate with anything but a crossout designator or a called by the grave, it’s kinda whack

    • @shawnjavery
      @shawnjavery 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's more ways to deal with a card than just negating it though. Like my biggest issue with the puppet lock in branded is that the deck always has such absurd follow up after it resolves, unless you flip warlords or grave of the super ancient organism you're not able to deal with it, and they have lines to stop both of those if they respect it.
      I honestly don't find a card like summon limit or skill drain less problematic than something like d barrier. The continuous traps can be outed but as much more likely to just take the game if they aren't able to be contested, while something like d barrier is at worse a turn skip for decks. Something like branded has lines where it can put up a bit of a board presence through it, but tends to be a engine heavy deck that doesn't run hand traps so is unable to weaken the opponent's board to the point where they can run a longer game.

    I agree with the shifter take, and the hot red dragon deck. Shifter wasnt made to end turns, it just forces you to play in a way where you lose your follow up pieces, but puts rhe opponent in the same position where they can't combo as well as usual. If you are complaining that it kills decks as a 1 card, then nib is equally as toxic killing decks that summon 5 monsters without getting a negate on the end board, back when the meme was rhat hero and salamangreat end boards were a single rock. Also as a drytron player, i don't even use the chaos max lock which does the same thing as calamity because it isnt even that good (yes there are a few lab players at my locals), but if you hand trap it or just play trap cards, you win against the lock, just make the side deck better

    shifter is a ridiculously unhealthy card for the game because if the best deck was a shifter deck it would move to side deck, but after siding rogue decks would walk into it to just get brutalized. It's a card that either does nothing against your deck or it skips your turn. It may also incentivize konami to print decks that play around shifter furthering powercreep in general, and honestly, so fucking tired of decks that dodge handtraps like a sweaty Touhou player dodges bullets.
    also, lingering floodgates being bad? so many fucking cards on the banlist in every format are dumb lingering floodgates (azathoth, calamity, scythe), and d barrier which is a card people want banned since it was printed, and also, gimmick puppet nightmare in branded is ridiculously silly.

    There needs to be balance between all ways to play the game. Hyper consistent combo decks has been a growing problem for years. It takes the same level of skill to watch a youtube video and memorize lines of plays as it does to flip a flood gate trap card. If Jesse wants all floodgates gone, then the power level of combo deck end boards needs to be brought down to a level that can be kept up with instead of power creeping hyper consistent combo decks with even more hyper consistent combo decks.

      I know right. I cope with Virtual World, but I do play a bit of Marincess, and Nekroz. VW just doesn't work with shifter, and you can't equip the marincess towers with smaller links because they are banished and not on field, and Nekroz works the best, but you lose a LOT of resources and will probably lose the grind game. It is an auto win(at minimum a turn skip) for VW and marincess, and it is a huge detriment to Nekroz.
      I hate shifter so much, 5 negates feel better because I can maybe, probably outplay or bait the negates. But how do I deal with shifter besides crosscout, but why crossout because that means we also play shifter so it adds dead cards, or called by the grave, which is limited.

    imagine lingering floodgates being an issue there most likely useless unless you go first and draw them you won't even get to use them before the game is over. using skill drain takes as much skill as dropping and ash against a player who is playing rogue or opened bad or as much skill as using droll on a deck that searches a lot. personally i think being able to build a board then use a lingering floodgate on top of that to slow the game without hurting yourself does take incredibly skill because 9/10 skill drain, TCOBO hurt you just as much. i think not to be mean but a lot of top players are two faced they talk about not liking how fast of stale a current format is but then complain about every little card designed to slow it down. what they are truly saying is this what i think is bad is bad your opinion is wrong because I'm an expert.
