That was the networks choice, Chip and us builders didn’t want to do it and morale was low on those builds for that exact reason. However, Tony Todd whose LeMans convertible that we built, was one of the most gracious recipients. If you watch the reveal of that build, you can feel his enthusiasm and gratitude.

My father was a first generation gear head before 1/4 mile runs were a thing. Back then he knew terms like "chopped", "channeled", and "leaded in", his '41 continental was a beauty. He was a member of a car club "The Carlsbad Oiler's" before Korea interrupted his young adult life. He didn't care much for what he called "modern hot rods", which for him was anything without a flathead or flames, but he understood my passions for them. He and I agreed on one thing regarding Overhaulin', it was a tolerable reality T.V. show, but the knowledge and abilities of the crew was inspiring. Rest in peace R.L. Anderson, sorry your last year had to be 2020 but your legacy lives on.

I don't think Chip foose does a terrible job of car designing. I think he's pretty talented of taking any car and making his own. I love all kinds of hot rod cars no matter what they look like if it's custom or if it's modern. I love the TV show overhaul I think the crew works well together even though there's going to be times where there's going to be ups and downs like anything in life. I love the car shows from the early 2000s that's when things started picking up. It's a bummer that the TV show overhaul ended. Maybe they will bring back the show overhaul. I love how Chip foose Holly sits down and start sketching what the car will look like in his mind and he will put it on a piece of paper and make it come to life. It doesn't matter if a small custom car shop or a bigger shop in the United States of America everyone's shop is unique to their own. America was built on the foundation of freedom of speech but freedom in general. This is what it makes America so great is we can come up with any kind of design if that's car design or coming up with Waze to come up with different unique foods like watching The History channel and how they make old fashioned candies that made America today. America is the pioneer of a lot of inventive creations. I love the old classic cars from the 40s 50s 60s 70s and 80s...✍️🇺🇲✝️😎

The celebrity build done with Johnny Depp's Mercury was a major nightmare for one artist in particular. The Late Mike Lavallee, founder and owner of Killer Paint, wouldn't be paid for his time and labor, lost work while film crews tied up his shop or costs he incurred flying to SoCal from Washington State and back, for several years and this wasn't an isolated incident for the "Reality TV" industry.

I think parts of this video are BS... I live less than 10 minutes from Chip's shop and am having a '79 Jeep Cherokee restored right now at another shop. There are no extra taxes paid on a vehicle because the value goes up, unless you sell it and then only if you claim the sale on your income taxes. If you own your vehicle outright, you just pay for insurance and registration. The amount you pay for registration in California is based on the year of the vehicle, not the present value, if that was the case, vehicles would have to be appraised every year.

I'm big in the automotive field and been in cars for years. I drove 2,500 miles to southern California to buy a 69 Camaro in 2007 stopped in at Boyd's in the morning. I was in the showroom had my nice clothes on not stained work clothes and Boyd a little later was looking at me leaning against one of his show room cars but he didn't say anything. I guess he felt I wasn't a serious buyer and had no money. Or maybe he just had things to do but no one helped me while I was looking around. I bought a fully restored turn key 69 Camaro the next day in southern California. Even got to keep the antique license plate on the car and drive it when I was there for an added bonus! No hard feelings to Boyd or staff. You just never know who is a serious buyer or not so be friendly to all like Chip Foose seems to be. Boyd's show was good but much drama and not how I run business. All that drama and anger among employees usually get someone hurt and is not productive. Overhauling better show but shows like this better be careful doing pranks someone got one in the bread box and laid out - possibly hurt - possible law suit!!! Hollywood is always pushing the boundaries to get the ratings and someone else's expense and at times gets someone hurt. Hollywood doesn't use common sense at times.

The way the narration is delivered makes it sound like Foose entered into this contract with full knowledge of what Discovery had in mind , re drama and errata. Chip's original relationship with Discovery was for a show called Rides- they came to Foose's shop and shot what they were doing, with the personnel at at hand. No drama, no BS. Chip was already signed up, IMHO, before he knew about the crap they were fixing to drop on him and his workers, many were his friends and friends of his father's - Sam Foose. This narration doesn't really go far enough into the mechanics of the garbage Boyd Coddington brought to the table for Chip and his father , who were both family firends for years before any of this Discovery crap went down. the so called "Boyd Style", that Coddington tried to sue Chip for using was Sam's originally- clean, lots of flow and great color. Chip learned it at an early age- in the early 90s he built a car called the Alien form a 1940 Ford Panel Sedan; it won everything at Chip's first AMBR as a contestant- except the Most beautiful Roadster Trophy, because it was not a roadster. He shows every element of the Boyd look in that car, built before he ever worked for Coddington. I don't know why I care- Chip doesn't need anyone to defend him- his shop is booked to the walls, he has more requests for paid appearances than he can do, and mostly he has a family he cares deeply about. Speaking about Chip's family- did you get permission to use his logo and pictures? Chip's wife is a very good lawyer I hear- it might be cheaper to pay her than litigate with her.

I got so sad when I found out the show ended, I enjoyed watching the transformation the A Team did! Always hoping that I had the opportunity for my van to be overhauled by the A team, Chip Foos. I had a 1989 GMC Vandura 350 5.7 engine customized van design by "Happy Times". I love the name of the van makes me happy and so proud to have had it, and experienced it. It had a slow oil leak for a long time and finally blew up a head gasket even though I kept fillingitupwith oil. I couldn't afford to fix it so, I sold it in 2021. I had my van for 13 years and enjoyed it every minute of it even though it was a gas eater. But, that motor, WOW 👏😍.
Thank you Chip Foos and the A Team for the wonderful show. I wish you all come back with the show again. My wish. Wishing you all well.

I heard that California is going to start taxing people who receive Christmas gifts and birthday presents. Just like the upgrades on these cars, It's considered capital gains. Regardless that some of these classic cars actually lost value due to modifications, the car owner was given free parts and labor and therefore the government is entitled to their fair share of the freely gifted items. In that case, the only capital gain is to the state. So remember, when grandma gives you pajamas for Christmas, pay California their entitled share.

Greedy i want to keep as much of it for me american way is the cause. No one is happy with just making a small profit. Think of companies buying or taking over other companies just to dismantle it even if said company was making a profit but not enough in someones opinion etc. Everyone want to be instant rich off someone else's back is the american way. There is no more pride in making it anymore. I see so often young people finding a good paying job and they go out and buy a big house with new truck out front jacked up and modified with a barely used camper parked on the side with a side by side , boat, snowmobile bimbo wife , dog, cat etc. all before hitting 25 and as soon as they lose the job or the economy drops out like the oilfields did a few years ago they have to sell or give back everything just to eat as well as the bimbo starts cheating or leaving said young person in the dust. I call them insta-baby drive threw nation caution thrown to the wind generation. Now lots of people live beyond their means and the first straw that lands on them breaks them from their greed of too fast too soon living. It also reflects in their eating habits. Super size it now for only a dollar more attitude. 25 year old's now look like 45-50 year old's. look at ordinary people photo's in the 50-60 and compare it to what you see now walking the streets. Old values have been lost and now we have what we have from the little guy to the big guys at the top trying to maintain and hording for oneself and need to own everything now. Sorry for the rant but i seen too much with my years of living on planet earth.

There was a cartoon artist who was overhauled who lived on a steep hill. After he got his car back he was on Hand built Hotrods having the transmission changed from a stick shift to an automatic. Because of the steep hill with stop signs as you are going up or down. I guess he smoked the clutch a few times and thought it better to abuse his celebrity and be featured on another car show. Like there’s no broke ass dude or dudet that needs some overhauling.
I’m pretty sure I have the lost Eleanor. I purchased a 72 Mustang Fastback code C3 Medium Yellow Gold in 2012.
I first attempted to purchase the car in 1986-7. I had my 70 Torino GT transmission rebuilt and my instructions to the owner were to make it shift as hard as possible to get a second and third gear chirp When leaving the transmission shop I held the pedal to the floor and hit second gear and BAM, there went the gears. I coasted to a stop and spotted a Caterpillar yellow 72 Mustang Fastback in a driveway close by. I needed to barrow a phone anyway so I thought maybe he’d let me have the car cheap and use the phone to call a friend for a tow back to the house. He let me use the phone but bowed up when I mentioned the car. He said HELL NO THAT MF AINT FOR SALE. I left it at that but found myself looking at the car every time I drove down that road out of habit. Fast forward
26 years. I saw the car sitting on a flatbed wrecker and asked the driver what they were doing with it. He said taking it to the crusher. I didn’t see a smile so asked him to contact the owner and let me talk to him. I purchased the car for a few hundred dollars and went and picked up the keys and bill of sale. After owning it for a couple of years I found out about this other Eleanor. In my research I found that the original movie had 2 Eleanors. One stunt car and a beauty shot car that they had sent to a local upholstery shop to change the normal looking seats into something attractive. I have a car with 49,000 miles that I’m still driving that has the factory brakes on it all the way around. The original bulbs and headlights, original 8 track player that still works, original transmission fluid and brake fluid, it’s a high optioned base model built in the year the auto industry drastically cut horsepower and muscle so the person who ordered it got all but 3 of the 17 options. I haven’t done a Mardi report but will soon. Oh yeah, with all the original equipment still like it was from the factory, in California, it has custom front seats but had the factory plugs, wires, belts, and wheels etc. but the seats were custom. The car was built in San Jose Cali in 1971 and was purchased from a used car lot in or around the LA area where the first Gone In 60 Seconds was filmed.

Sweet tiger24 couldn’t agree more. The celeb bashing has left out Mr Leno paying for an employee to have his Lotus brought back to life. I thought that was a superb build, very educational and seemed to deeply touch a man’s life who could not have rebuilt his car without the help. Personally I felt the shows luster was tainted by the overuse of pranks and irrelevant banter drawing away from the education and explaining of trade skills that make the genre compelling. I know it seems somewhat gratuitous but “advertising” if solid explanations are given are far more effective than than the over repeated pharmaceutical ads the run ad nauseam. For instance during the “Leno Lotus” the magnaflo engineer comes on and explains the use of the plastic mock-up pipes and how to use them and calculate a header. Amazing information. If they incorporated more of that it would be advertising but aiding the consumer in the howto and why we need or could simplify a project with their product. I felt the producers really missed out by substituting DIYverstising with slapstick antics.

Custom car builders build cars to be displayed at shows or driven fairly easily on the streets. If a custom car owner plans to drive the car in autocrosses (or like a 911 turbo), it is his responsibility to let the car builder know so that they can set up the car for that purpose! I watched a TH-cam video showing "Rad Rides by Troy" building the Cuda. I don't believe that they were under any time-frame to complete the Cuda. Foose could have had a show where the episodes showed he and his team showing their talent, doing their thing without all the drama. The drama got to be more corny than funny. The real drama was when Foose and a bunch of other talented people left Coddington. He was such a sob treated his people like dirt, let greed take over his love for cars. Even though Boyd is gone I still won’t by his wheels. The closest thing I’ve witnessed in person any top name having to do with cars or motor sports is jack roush. He treats his people, even his drivers and his few followers like dirt just like Boyd did. Two plane crashes both, miracles he even survived, has taken him down a notch or two. The gas monkey is another subject, where “what’s his name” beats people out of their vehicle offering them pennies on the dollar of what their worth. Usually old people, or the poor old man he swiped the three Challengers from getting all 3 for what one would normally cost.

I think the show needed a better time slot. There is no doubt that Chip is a much better builder than gas monkey garage. The reason some probably sold their Overhaulin car's is they could get so.much out of them because they were designed by Chip.

At 6:27... for being "car guys", they should know there is no such thing as a "200R4 transmission". There is a 2004R and a 700R4. Not hard to figure this stuff out. I have had car guys call and ask for overhaul prices on "an 80LR4E trans" and such.

You Tube and other steaming channels are taking ratings from basic cable. These shows just have too many commercials and fake drama to get 'average viewers' for ratings, and common people don't know much about cars, so add drama, flash, and celebrities.
Rawlins' show got tiresome with the fake "deadlines" and drama, along with Aaron leaving.

12 minutes to tell me how "reality TV" works? And only leading up to financial reasons? (Sigh).
1stly, I never really liked how the "Foose" style of modding cars went. WAAAY too radical of changes. I appreciate the talent, & craftsmanship, but the changes took away what the car was, in exchange for a style change that's likely to be here today, gone tomorrow.
2ndly, this was a drone of a video, with no payoff at the end. Anyone who's ever seen anything remotely like Overhaulin', knows what these shows are about. Might as well have told us how "Once upon a time it rained. It got wet outside, & then it stopped. The end." There was NO story here.
Welp, there goes 12 minutes I could've been using for something productive. (Plus the 10 minutes I took to gripe! Ha!).

Some states like CT, charge a property tax based on the value of the car. Fortunately though, some states let you register the car as a classic, it drastically lowers the taxes.

I guess it varies state by state. Like if you did the work yourself, or paid someone to do the work you’d pay taxes on the parts and labor but like in my state the value of your car would remain the same.

  • @scottfirman
    @scottfirman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

When someone takes a one of a limited numbered vehicle and then changes the body design, it ruins the vintage value of that vehicle. My daughter works for Haggerty insurance and knows exactly what the value of a vintage car will be. If it has been changed, even by Chip Foose, it can destroy the value and insurability of that vehicle. The value of an older vehicle is based on its manufacturer made original value based on other cars of same type and model. Additional factory ad ons increase the value NOT changes in design or modern upgrades. A Chip Foose vehicle cannot be made worth more through the insurance company because of what he did to it. They will only insure its original value. Sorry Chip.

That's why I like Road Kill Garage and Engine Masters. Enjoyable, knowledgeable, entertaining without the stupid created drama. Don't get me wrong, I love Overhaulin but couldn't stand the last two women they had on there (Adrienne and Arianny) that didn't really know how to work on cars and would look at the camera and marvel when they took off a piece of trim. Really? Also Chris Jacobs could be quite annoying at times but understand that he is a tv "personality". Cherielyn Westrick was awesome on the show. Don't know why she left. So sad when Jessi Combs died. Chip Foose is a master at car design and customizing.

What if they dont want to or cannot just take the time to stop and come to California, pay a big amount of money in taxes, and then drive their Overhauled car back to where they live??? I think the Logistics for doing out of state cars was just going to be too much not to mention how much all that would cost someone...

@@Bild0zer They would be taxed on the fair market value of the work done, and I presume the parts as well. There used to be a show on network TV where struggling families got their home fixed up. I think it was Extreme Home Makeover, but I'm not sure. Anyway, some of the lucky winners wound up being forced to sell their house. Apart from higher local property taxes, they also has to pay taxes to the IRS for the fair market value of the home repairs.
