The chemistry is there, coz they still talk flawless and Mer is open to him like he was with derek, if you check the other characters like Deluca, Hayes, Nathan she is more open with him than the others and the sparkle and smile is back.

Her coma dreams/ghost chats were good for her and helped her feel more OK about possibly taking a new relationship seriously. Previously I felt like she was dating out of loneliness but was very conflicted and still held back a lot. Recently it feels like she isn't holding back as much, like she's started to believe maybe she really could love someone else, and that it wouldn't be a betrayal or mean that she loved Derek any less. It's like she talked with Derek and got to spend time with him, and he let her know he would rather see her happy.
