I was playing ball when I was about 24 and my heart rate started beating like a drumroll. I almost blacked out. Heart slowed down but stayed out of rythym for about 12 hours then came back to normal. Had another episode in my early 50's and that stayed out of rythym for about 3 months, until I had an echo-cardiogram(sp?). I don't push too hard anymore. Pete was only 40. Damn.
@@Jaxwalkk Yeah, you... because he is underrated. Now if you're here and you aren't going to show any appreciation for the Pistol, then respectfully shut your fucking mouth.
Being born 1/23/1988 makes this hit different because I love Basketball. A legend died not even a month before I was born and im in awe when watching his story
I feel like a death before a birthday always makes it tougher to have that same love later on. I was born on January 24th so I feel that from this. Kobe passed just 2 days after my 19th birthday and it’s still a tragedy, both of them. But it would even be worse if it were the day before my birthday with that cloud overlaying my anniversary on this planet
It was a complete shock, but what it said in the autopsy was shocking, Maravich had a rare heart defect, he was born with one coronary artery instead of the normal two, because of that, the people who performed the autopsy said that it was a Miracle that Maravich had lived past 20!!!
I just got to know the Pistol, I never met him or even seen him, but he reached me with a message recently after I was researching him, and I thank him for that, and I won’t be selfish with it.
wow I remember this. I was staying in Gert town and my dad came home from work and told us this. I was 7 years old. look at how young Angela Hill and Jim Henderson are. Angela still looks the same.
WOW, my Dad told me a story about the star player on his high school team who was visually in great shape. He was playing basketball at practice and drop dead of a heart attack on the court at age 17! Rest In Peace Pistol Pete!

He had the most talent in the game of basketball, he could do everything. He will always go down as the best college basketball player. And the most talented in my mind and in many, many others minds.
Pete Maravich was, without question, the greatest basketball player in the history of the sport. Bar none. And the greatest thing he ever did with his life was to give it all to Jesus after his retirement. We miss you Pistol, but all of us who are Christians will see you again in glory!!
My Uni years were enhanced by him. "O Lord, glorify his station, shelter him under the pavilion of Thy supreme mercy, cause him to enter Thy glorious paradise, and perpetuate his existence in Thine exalted rose garden, that he may plunge into the sea of light in the world of mysteries." ~ Baha'i Prayer
IF they'd had the 3 point line in college ball during his career his avg per game would have been 57...as it is his 44 is STILL the record in only 3 years. Best ever scorer!
@TheCrew906 It wasn't a hole in the heart.. It was a 'heart defect'--so 'rare' no statistics exist. Enlarged heart yet weak because he was born 'without' one of the two artery systems that supply the heart with blood. (Take notes if you will) as I have read about this defect he was lucky he wasn't dead before 18... So he was blessed in ways... Playing in the NBA with out one of your main arteries in your heart.. *Think what he could do with a healthy heart...?
I love the comments. I have gotten the chance to get close with his oldest son Jaeson who is now one the host on my sports show. I respect Pistol's game and personality, definitely reflects in his family.

This totally shocked me, almost beyond belief. Life is so damned fragile.
