    this is seriously the most heart-felt, gut-wrenching, saddest song ever. Brilliantly written, sung and performed. This live album is legendary, and the this group is amazing. Grats for doing this one, it was an emotional ride.

    • @chrisfeld3650
      @chrisfeld3650 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've described Portishead, pronounced portis-head, if no one has corrected that, as depressing and sexy. It's like Massive Attack, or Tricky. Good, sexy beats and vocals in this weird environment of music that spans classical to funk to hip-hop to rock. Look at Black Steel from Tricky, he goes straight into percussion with a sexy voice on a, Ice Cube song? I could be wrong. Brass tacks, if you want a baby making album to play to get things started, Portishead: Dummy, Massive Attack: Mezzanine, Tricky: Maxinque, so good. I mean, on their own. But, for the bedroom, pretty good!

    • @padmelotus
      @padmelotus 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chrisfeld3650i love Black Steel by Tricky, too. Its a cover of, "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos" by Public Enemy. The original has more lyrics if I remember rightly.

    THANK YOU FOR REACTING TO MY FAV PORTISHEAD SONG!!! 👏 If you didn't own this album in the 90's, then you were deemed oblivious to the best Trip Hop in existence! 20yrs after 'Dummy' was released, I finally got to see them in concert for the first time - IT WAS AWESOME AF! Trip Hop, and to have a full complement of strings on the stage with the band..... So Good! And yeah like you said, it has soul and R&B and orchestral elements on top. Very old school in a way. And I mean OLD school.....

    Massive Attack. I'm not a huge fan of any group, so you might want to ask a true fan about what is best. I like the more obvious hits like "Karmacoma", "Angel", "Inertia Creeps", "Day Dreaming"...and several others.

    • @gemma3954
      @gemma3954 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Tricky did “karmacoma” and Morcheba did “Angel/s”. Please someone correct me if I’m wrong. They are both good and so is Massive attack can’t remember which ones though.

    • @palecorpse
      @palecorpse 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gemma3954 It's possible that they did. I think it gets tricky when talking about music that is layers and samples of other work. What I looked up shows that tricky wrote the lyrics for karmacoma and later morphed it into overcome. The version I know is under Massive attack. Only read Massive attack for angel, unless you count the singer as separate from the work. How does that work with sampling?

    • @gemma3954
      @gemma3954 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jayla Eaves. You’re totally right & I am very wrong 😊
      I’ve just looked and massive attack did do angel. The song I was thinking of was “World looking in” by morcheba. I’m gonna use the excuses that it starts with the word ‘angels’ and my age!! 😇🙃☺️
      I love “overcome” & “kamacoma” if one morphed into the other, that’s probably why. One song that I forgot but I love is “Teardrop” by Massive attack. X

    Neko Case, Wish I Was The Moon Tonight th-cam.com/video/blmnnwfa0mE/w-d-xo.html
    And there's Cowboy Junkies, Mazzy Star, Loreena McKennitt, all awesome low-key groovy pools of songs that don't sound like anything else but themselves.
    Oh, and probably the best female power-singing voice I've ever heard is Jefferson Airplane era Grace Slick, like "White Rabbit". th-cam.com/video/bXZtnqT4uxM/w-d-xo.html

    Well you got the whole hip hop & r&b being mix in it since Portishead is a trip-hop group which is basically a slower tempo of hip hop 😊

    It's hard to take you seriously when you are bobbing your head before the song starts. Roads is the worst intro into Portishead. Try another song

    Ok im gonna be honest ,you may not like it but for me reaction vids have to be honest reactions.maybe its just how you are but bopping ur head before the beat comes in to me doesnt look genuine.all i ask is listen and react honestly ,if that means you sit there frozen cos you are stunned by a song or you freak out cos its amazing thats all cool just dont force it.it felt forced to me.
