    ***MY OFFICIAL ANSWER TO THE CORRECT ORDER FOR SONARWORKS AND THE NX PLUGINS: **th-cam.com/video/szGvojr9Z0k/w-d-xo.html** ***

    fyi, just a heads-up... If you don't have one of those vinyl/clothe tape measures, you can wrap a piece of string around your head at the proper locations and then measure the string with a regular tape measure or a ruler.

    Using Cubase I recommend using the Control room to insert the plugin. That's where I instantiate the Sonorworks headphone plugin. That way when you export a mix you don't have to remember to turn it off. Sonorworks helped me get balances but I always have to jump from main monitors to auratones for the most accurate overall mix representation. I can't wait to try waves nx

      @Shaman West I've never used mixbus32 before but essentially you want to use sonarworks to correct your headphones BEFORE you use Waves Ocean way. That will give you an acoustically flat starting point that ocean way nashville plugin can use to add some of the "space" or ambience back into the stereo field. That's basically it :) Be sure to put it on the 2-bus or if you have a separate monitoring space like cubase, add sonarworks then ocean way there.
      If you are using protools, there isn't a separate monitoring environment like in cubase (I think) so you will need to put it on the output bus and disable both sonarworks and ocean way plugins before rendering or exporting your song from the session. Hope that helps!

    Amazing video... By the way, the rotate knob is not a gimmick.. Most times you get a different low frequency response when you're facing the back of the room coz of how the sound bounces off the back wall and travels.. so facing the back can help in how you make low end decisions.. So I find that the rotate knob is useful for that.

    It`s a really great plugin and innovation! I`ve tested the demo the last days and compared it to Abbey Road 3, which I work with, since it came out. Ocean Way Nashville sounds like a smaller room with less reflections, than the british one. I pretty much like producing beats on the biggest speakers, but with Abbey Road 3 this is kind of dangerous, because it`s pretty "hyped" and stimulating (the "Quested" (?) Speakers in the wall) - often feels to me like standing in a club. The bigger Ocean Way speakers are a bit more "down to earth" in my oppionion and I`ve produed a new remix the whole last night on them. Surprisingly I`m pretty happy with it even on the infamous next day on my speakers.

    late to the party so if no reply i understand, just curious on a few things, 1. when mixing a song would it be bad or good to have the plug in on while ur mixing and making mixing decisions? 2. You mentioned referencing alot, alot of songs i know and love....does this mean listen to a Slayer song that i know and love with the plug in on so i hear what its actually doing, and if so could i not export that Slayer song with the plugin turned on, to always have that to quick ref easily? 3. Should this plug in just be used to hear whats wrong with your mix? when do u make mixing changes, and with the plug in on or off. I really hope for a reply thank you

      *Abbey Road and Ocean Way. There's a lot of comb filtering with Abbey Road and you might think that's a bad thing but it really helps to get mixes tight as the comb filtering is less prevalent when you've got it right. Ocean Way HR5 is really good for mixing bass and Abbey Road mid is great for mids. For overall balance, OW HR5 and AR near are both good.

      You want to bypass the plugin on export. These plugins are used for MONITORING your audio in a 3D space with headphones and NOT as an effect like reverb or something like that. It helps with our ability to make better mixing decisions spatially. But once you make your mix with headphones on, you will want to disable it before you export your finished song.

    Similar to the windows eq you mentioned, on Mac, rogue amoeba sound source is able to host au plugins on your system output. I run IK ARC3 there when on speakers and tone boosters morphit on headphones.
    I’ve been trying out realphones as well, which does something similar to abbey road studio 3 and ocean way Nashville. However, I think I might get the ocean way instead as it is less expensive.
    Oh, one other thing, waves has the nx head tracker with nx on their site for $60, but I’m wondering if the head tracker would really be a help or not.
    Thanks for doing this though, it was helpful to hear it on headphones as much as TH-cam would allow for a good judgement.

      Glad you got something out of the video. And thanks for sharing your setup! I'm sure others will find it helpful.
      You don't need the bluetooth headtracker to make the head tracking work. You can use a webcam and it works pretty well. I was actually surprised at how good it was. It makes the experience more immersive, but for actual stereo mixing work, I disable it. Hope that helps!

    • @mrufino1
      @mrufino1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RaytownProductions yeah, I installed the demo of nx and ocean way last night and am going to test them today. Realphones is on sale until tomorrow, so today is the day to decide....When I watched other nx videos it seemed like the head tracking was more distracting for mixing than it was helpful- the head tracking would probably be awesome for immersive gaming or watching movies, etc, but I don’t really do either. I watch movies but not with headphones or any surround sound.
      Realphones does a similar thing to ocean way I think- it says it models a film studio on Russia. I was shocked at how real things sounded when I closed my eyes, it really felt like the sound was it in front of me and around me.
      Neither program has the eq curve for my mixing headphones though (akg q701), so I still have to use morphit no matter which I choose.

    How much of difference does the plugin compare to dearVR Pro? I heard that plugin does up to dolby 13.1 mixes. I use Beyerdynamic 770pro but I don't see it on the list is that a limitation? Nice review btw

    • @RaytownProductions
      @RaytownProductions  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never used dearVR Pro, so I can't comment on that. There seems to be a lot of features in dearVR pro that for mixing or mastering music might be unnecessary. For example, would you ever mix in 13.1? I've never mixed in 5.1 haha! And the last place I would ever want to mix my songs in would be a cathedral or something like that. It also costs 10X more.
      About your headphone question - no, it's not a limitation at all. It's a nice little bonus if your headphones were on the list, but honestly I prefer and use other correction software for my headphones even though waves has their own built into the software. I use Sonarworks and it does a much better job making the headphones really flat sounding. The waves eq correction isn't designed to make the headphones flat, just offset some of the features in the headphones response that are exaggerated. I have links to all these products in the description if that helps.
      I think if mixing or mastering music is your goal, Waves ocean way would do the trick. But if you are looking for a variety of immersive environments to listen to music in, then I'd go with dearVR Pro probably (but again I've never used it). Hope that helps man!

    I just bought the plugin. Im amazed at the difference it makes. My question, and possible only issue is, when you bounce, you bypass it. Why? Bc this makes your mix sound better when mixing. Wouldn't you want that same exact sound quality in your final product?? The only thing I see what could make sense, is that once you bounce, and import the bounced wav or aif into a mastering session where you'd add all the sweet stuff like final eq, compression, etc--you'd attempt to "recreate" that rich ambience you were hearing in the mixing session? Id love to hear thoughts on this....

    • @RaytownProductions
      @RaytownProductions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You bypass it because when it's played back in a room, the natural room ambience will make up for the plugin. If you leave it on, it's like having it be played back in 2 rooms at the same time. I hope that helps 🙂
