    I have the 350. Chucked all media out. Even though I actually really like substratpro had good results over the years with that.
    Using bio home ultimate for media now with all sponges at bottom tray so the bypass become pretty much useless for my set up. Also using the eheim per filter which is extremely handy just looks a bit bulky in the tank.

    Just got my Eheim 4+ ..... IN LOVE! No mess, no muss, no fuss. I can do it without help from the husband!! ONE question: I need a solution to diffuse the flow from the inlet, ideas?

      Denisa Fleck
      Use a piece of filter spunge to run it trough. It diffuse the water very effectilely, maybe even too much.
      The aquarium will almost certainly get a biofilm on the surface, nut very low flowing water, perfect for bettas and gouramis.

    Thanks, Big Al's. I was Leary of plonking down another $1000 for three replacements. I tried the fix on Utube but use silicone instead of the homemade gasket and it started to leak again. I suspect the two rubber gasket in the quick disconnect assembly gave way this time. Best Regards.

    Hi. I have this. I love it. My only question is. Where would you put carbon if you needed to remove meds?

    • @MmmDnBbitch
      @MmmDnBbitch 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I add things like that to the very top tray (The last one the water goes through before returning back to tank)
      You can just place it on top of the media- Which is what I do
      Or if space is nonexistent you could make a little room in one of the upper trays and fit it in there somewhere.
      I imagine many people do this many ways but it hasn't failed me yet!

    I'm interested in the 600. I have a 55 gallon and was wondering would that be too much? I intend on keeping African Cichlids and plan on keeping it slightly overstocked. I've also heard that I should have a turn around of about 7 to 10 times the gph. This filter alone would only be about 6x. Should I consider a HOB as well? Sorry for the amount of questions and thanks in advance!

    Hi and thnx for the informative vid . I just bought the 350 and am having trouble with air in the canister expelling through the spray bar. I've checked the connections and did the "tilt gently to the sides" tip and it still persists. Any recommendations? Trays arent overloaded and everything fits well

    Is the Pro 4+ series as quiet as the 2217? I've read that the Classic models are a bit quieter than the Pros. Noise level is a big issue for me, as I record music in a nearby room, so filter noise needs to be an absolute minimum. Also, I do plan on having some shrimp in my 40gal planted tank - should I be concerned about them if I get the 2217? Thanks for your awesome videos, super helpful in making a good filter choice!! :)

    Want to upgrade the circulation in my Juwel Rio 125 which holds 125 litres,would this be overkill or could I throttle it back to give a gentle circulation throughout the tank?

    Hey guys love the vids, I'm looking to upgrade my filter to a pro 4 600, and wanted to change out some of the media (1-2) trays with the marine pure bio balls, just wondering if you knew how much marinepure id need

    • @BigAlsVOD
      @BigAlsVOD  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In all honesty, I'd stick with the Eheim media. The balls don't fit the trays very comfortably and leave a lot of extra room between the balls allowing for quite a bit of bypass. The smaller Eheim media makes for better use of the space and a higher available surface area.

  • @johndaly846

    The only problem is that if you're waiting for an Eheim 2217 to quit before I buy one of these, it looks like you might not sell any. It might get fancier, but it can't get any better than the 2217, even if it uses a couple more watts of juice to do it.

    • @johndaly846
      @johndaly846 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tried high-tech filters. The Fluval G3 made me feel like a gullible idiot. It has lots of fancy digital readouts, which is nice because you'll spend so much time cleaning it and trying to keep it from leaking all under your cabinet and back-siphoning half your tank water with it that it might as well have a Facebook interface too. Your video on the majestic Eheim 2217 was one of your best of all time, and the Eheim Surface Skimmer Pro is one of the handiest things I've ever bought from Big Al's. Your point about latest builds is well received. I saw my LFS just got some South American Arowanas in stock and now I'm inspired...

    • @bengalghost5403
      @bengalghost5403 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I concur with your assessment of the old and trusty 2217s. However, mine had a slow leak in one of the quick disconnect valves because the O ring prematurely failed. I guess Eheim's quality control went South during their transitional period.

    Hello, I know this this a long shot but I am really interested in this external filter and I need the advice of someone super knowledgeable about aquariums and filters . So I currently have a Biorb Halo . It currently has a built in filter in the bottom of the tank that doesn’t work up to par . I currently have it set up as a marine tank and I also have a internal filter to assist with the crappy filter the tank comes with . I want to convert to a external filter but it’s very difficult with the shape and lighting of the tank . I want to replace the black tubes with clear tubes to fit the filter so it will be more aesthetically pleasing . I would also like to not use the attachable hard plastic piping that attaches to the tubes to filter the water and return the water, because as I explained the shape of the tank makes that very difficult to fit in the tank since it is round shaped . Is that possible or is it required the use the hard plastic pieces in order for the filter to work properly ? My plan is to use the suction clips to stick the tubes to the sides on the biorb and tie a piece of mesh around the ends if the pieces provided in the set don’t fit the tube . This will allow me to remove the crappy filter as well as the internal filter taking up a lot of space and give me excellent water quality . Does this sound attainable ? I understand it may not be conventional . Trust me I regret getting this tank now so I’m trying to make the best out of what I have because I’m probably $500 in at this point .

    Don't buy! Misalign the top even once and one or two of the 4 plastic latches will snap. There is no way of repairing them because they are fused to the bottom canister.

    1. Black - so?
    2. Range extender - stupid 'feature' that no one should use if they don't want to kill their fish.
    3. New media - still vastly inferior to Seachem Matrix.
    4. Greater energy efficiency - ok, that's nice.
    *Is Eheim EVER going to fix the fatal flaw in all Professional filters? THEIR PRIME BUTTONS NEVER WORK! Seriously look at all the youtube videos on this.*

      The Classic Filters look terrible for switching different media types. Every filter I use I use renewable purigen, seachem matrix, and seachem zeolight. I'm do not use carbon at all. The E model he speaks of, is only the smallest 250. I think the 600 version is the only one I'd buy; if it was price competitive. I have the Fluval 406 with seachem media! :)

    • @Vulpes10
      @Vulpes10 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why: I could not agree more. Classic are by far the best Eheim filters. Just fill it up with Sera Sipomax or something similar and 3 or 4 inches of filter wool fine filter as the last stage. Then you can just change the filter wool as needed and only clean the rest when necessary. If you want to you can set another level with Seachem Purigen(or whatever) in a bag after the filter wool.

    • @captainwin6333
      @captainwin6333 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1. Looks better in aquarium.
      2. It doesn't kill fish, stupid comment.
      3. Says who? If this is new media how have you tested it?
      Google *filter brand x, y, z problem* and you'll find every filter has problems. Just as ever car does. Every TV, fridge, phone, whatever. It's normal with consumer products.
