    I came here to see the cart project. I stayed because of your daughter. What you are doing with her is awesome. One day, when you are long gone, she will look back on this and remember her great dad. I spent lots of time with my dad working on projects. Long after I have forgotten about the material things I had as a child, I mostly remember the things he taught me and the times we shared in the shop. I had an awesome childhood because we did things together. Your daughter will have fond memories of her dad.
    This video really got to me emotionally because I remember my dad teaching me to weld. Good times. You're a greet dad.

      +135 Pilot Thank you so much! I didn't get to spend much time with my dad growing up so I try to give the things i wish i had. I don't always get to see my kids as much as I would like, but I try to do things with them that hopefully someday they can look back on and be proud of their accomplishment and know that I cared. Thank you for watching and for that great comment!

    Congratulations on the project. I really liked that you are initiating your daughter into art, DIY. I do the same as my children in the joinery. I believe these lessons they will take for generations.

    I'm past dad / daughter and into grandpa / grandson. Wonderful place you two are at and getting your teenager involved, fantastic (and sometimes challenging).
    Couple things to consider for future similar projects.
    1. Mechanically attach the mechanical components. Casters and drawer slides can fail.
    2. Slat shelves- place 1/8 x1 flat bar on it's side and weld in place between the slats. It looks good, no glue and it's load bearing.

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      cableup1 I love it! All excellent points. My son is using this in his college dorm to hold his microwave. He stored it over the summer on campus. Not sure how it happened but one wheel got bent a little. I see your point :)

    I am female and I love to rehab/build vintage industrial pieces and I started with my Dad teaching me metal sculpture and stained glass. Awesome that you're showing her that outdated gender boundaries don't have to apply to her.
    She looks like a natural. Great job, both of you.

      +Lisa Velazquez Thank you so much for that great comment! I would be just as proud if she was a doctor or a welder...what really matters is that we do what we love (regardless of gender). Thank you for your support Lisa!

    Very functional, something about metal and wood. They seem to be meant for each other. The old fashioned crate adds lots of charm. I might suggest building a potato/ vegetable stand in the same fashion. Three tiers or baskets? Having your daughter involved in welding, I was that Child,Kid, when I was growing up. My dad was constantly welding. Your daughter is extremely lucky to be exposed to this. Some wall sconces as well built on the sides of a nice wall shelf with towel and cup holder beneath. Well done Sir and Daughter,, well done.

    nice touch with "rivet heads", one trick I use is do the same using a normal bolt cut down, then use plastic metal putty to make "hand made" rivet or nail head, but your job looks neat. Steel and wood great combo.

    Hey Brandon, I have been spending some time in this frigid weather (-15°) looking through some of your older videos. This cart struck my eye. You and your lovely daughter have built what I am sure will become a cherished family heirloom. It is both rustic and classic in design and function as well as beautiful. I love the idea of combining both wood and steel in this project.
    Soon I am sure you will have your adorable grandson under the hood with stinger in hand. 😉😁😎
    In reading some of the comments on this project, I was amazed and pleasantly surprised that you replied to recent comments from a video that was posted 6 years ago. I don't know how you do it. But, I am extremely impressed that you do. It certainly is not the norm. It is just one more reason that your TH-cam channel has grown and is such a close knit community of welding enthusiasts.
    🙏God's speed and God bless brother.

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @stephenrichards6508 thank you so much man! I'm sure at some point Colton will want to weld because he loves doing pretty much anything I'm doing and we have so much fun together. The girl in that video is his mother which is pretty cool. I will have to show Colton that video and see his expression. As far as answering comments I love doing it. I love interacting with our group. It can be very hard at times to stay on top of it because I get several hundred a week but I try my best to respond to everyone just because I love our close nit group. Thanks again Stephen I always look forward to your comments (which getting to know my loyal viewers is an honor) and I wouldn't be able to do that if I just randomly came on here and answered a few questions now and then.

    • @stephenrichards6508
      @stephenrichards6508 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol! I find it both somewhat funny and very honoring to be classed in your age group. 😉😁😎 I just turned 75 last October. I have a son that's 49, a daughter 48, and my youngest daughter is 45. I also have 3 granddaughters 23, 21, and 14. Even at my advancing age, I try to keep my head in the game and enjoy learning new things and working with my hands using my construction skills.
      Anyway, I won't write an entire book here with my whole life story. But, just know that I appreciate you and your skills and educational prowess. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and entertaining us at the same time. Be well. Be safe. Stay well.

      Thats awesome man! Age is just a number. I'm glad you stay active. I do too or at least I try. 3 years ago I told my wife we could save a bunch of money by re-rrofing our house by ourselves. After I got a 10 foot section stripped I had to admit that my 25 year old brain wasn't in the same condition as my 50 year old body LOL. Hardest I had labored in probably 15 years and of coarse it was during a record heat wave we were having. All in all it came out good and in 35 years it will be someone elses problem, not mine LOL

    Wow! Great videos! New subscriber here! I really like that your videos aren't an hour long, but yet you piece them together with long enough clips for us to see exactly how you did each step. Well done sir, and just some feedback on the music... I like that you incorporated it in. Makes it upbeat. I plan on modifying this for a welding cart with drawers. Thanks again!

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jay Pomykala Thanks man! I really appreciate the feedback. The music is probably one of the more difficult parts when editing the video. I keep trying different ones until I find one that seems to fit. Great idea on turning this into a welding cart!!! Thanks for the support!

    Nicely done. I really like that look with the riveted gussets. I learned a few tricks too: why have I never thought of clamping a fence onto a drill press table?
    I have one question though, the wooden shelf and top are held up only by the metal supports in the corners. So the center slats of wood are supported only with wood glue? Would that not be susceptible to collapsing if you put something heavy on it?
    Anyways, thanks for posting this video.

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +kxigor Thanks! You are correct about how the shelves are held in. Glue joints are very strong though, but you could always add a few tabs in the center if you planned to put something heavy. Thank for watching!

    Parenting done right. The world needs more female welders, women naturally pay more attention to detail than men, and thus produce better quality projects when properly trained and allowed artistic freedom.

    great work to you both. how long until your daughter has a channel of her own? once she's relaxed holding a welder she could teach most how to.

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dean Howard Thanks man! I'm planting the seeds hoping she will consider starting her own channel. I think she would do very well. I was no where near as good as her when I first picked up a welder, so I see a bright future for her if she decides to stick with it.

    • @BrandonLund
