    You should be able to use the original silicone mold and pour resin into it to make solid baits to pour over. If you spray the mold with silicone spray it'll stop it from sticking as silicone spray is also a mold release agent. You can also spray the bottom of the pan and the baits that you glue to it to help with removing them.

    Have you tried a glycerin brushing or spray of fibreglass mould prior to the pouring of silicone? I would think that it would be easier to pull the lure after the cure.

    You can also make silicone molds using silicone caulking and cornstarch. You just put a layer of cornstarch on a plate and keep mixing in cornstarch until it doesn't stick to your hand and apply it over whatever you want to mold. If you do half, drill some holes for alignment, make ports to inject soft plastic in, make ports on the opposite end to let air out, spray it with mold release, and do the other half you will have a nice 2 piece mold for swimbaits.

    I would have probably used a disposable aluminum baking pan from Walmart and solid worms vs soft plastic. But good tutorial to make resin molds though.

  • @bcd2107
    @bcd2107 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think if you hit the top surface of that mold with a belt sander you could get it down to where the lure was and remove a lot of the overlap imperfections and make them easier to remove.

    Vibrate the mold after pouring. It will allow all the cavities to fill-in nice and evenly and release any air pockets or inclusions

    If I'm duplicating a mold on the cheap. I'll get a Rubbermaid container. I'll glue down the worms/creatures, or in my case, an Osprey swimbait in the inside of the bottom of the Rubbermaid container. I'll use super glue and give a nice even coat to the bait. I'll let it dry overnight. The next day, I'll mix up a thinner patch of Plaster of Paris. I choose a thinner batch for the finer details in the bait. Before I pour, I put a VERY light coat of Vaseline all over the bait. I then pour the Plaster of Paris into the mold. Make sure to either put the mold in a vacuum chamber or tap the mold on the workbench very lightly to help some of the bubbles escape. I usually let the mold dry in the container for 3 or 4 days. I carefully remove the mold from the Rubbermaid container. 90% of the time, the bait will stay glued to the plastic container. I'll then wait a few more days. I fix any imperfections within the mold by sanding, adding patch...etc. After all of the prep work is done, I'll brush on very thin layers of Elmer's concrete Bond. It works amazing. I still have one or two of these molds that are around 20 years old.

    Is it bad to smell the old baits in the microwave just wondering

    • @karlstokes874
      @karlstokes874 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is a bad idea.
      Toxic fumes are produced
      when heating plastisol or melting down torn/old used baits in the microwave.
      Make sure you have plenty of ventilation and ideally use a couple of desk fans to blow the fumes out of your production area.
      Also DO NOT use a microwave that you intend to cook food in for heating the plastisol.
      Buy one that you ONLY use for making baits in

  • @humblehombre9904
    @humblehombre9904 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There can be a lot of exothermic heat from fiberglass resin. That might melt your worms.

      You should be able to do it like this guy but with resin. Also Silicone spray that you can buy at any auto parts store or walmart is a mold release agent and I've had great luck using it.

    If I do 2 cups of resin. How much drops of hardener do I put?

    • @karlstokes874
      @karlstokes874 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That will depend on which brand of resin you buy.
      Most brands will tell you on the pack the required ratios to set your desired amount of resin.
      Hope this helps?

    If money is the issue why then not use "plaster of paris" as a 50lb bag is like $20.00, which is much more than the resin? Have you tried "plaster of paris" ? Or is the resin better quality or something ? & as a thought lure oil rubbed in before adding plastisol makes the finished product slide out better. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks & great video bro.
