A while back ago I had been given a white cedar scented candle and fell in love with the smell. Ive been since trying to learn more about white cedar. I really enjoy the fragrance however I also seemed to have noticed that its not commonly used in anything and have been trying to figure out why.
Felt like this was a wonderful place to get started, I appreciated learning a lot of the benefits as well as some of the things to be cautious about. I also intend to look into white cedar tea... I assume it doesnt taste the same as the oil smells, but definitely curious to give it a try as a tea lover. Lol 🍵
Also, I found your story about "sweating" out the illness to be both humorous and informative. I imagine it was very bonding between your family. Sounds like something my family and I would do just to feel better.

Have you ever harvested white cedar bark for baking flour. Do you have a video on that?

It's a cultivar of the native Thuja occidentalis. Unfortunately I'm not sure if it has the exact same properties or not. You may want to try to find the native variety just in case

So when can you pick the cones to get seeds

You mean to grow your own white cedar? I would recommend going to a reputable nursery and purchasing a young one. They're commonly sold as Arbor Vitae.
The cones mature in the fall though

Good info, I hadn't been able to find any dosage info for cedar. Gotta work on those "um" pauses for videos though ;)

Thanks Linda! Yeah, I'm trying to get better at not using filler words like "um."

I have a row of 15-17 white cedars. The trees were growing past the 6 foot fence into the neighbour's yard. So the neighbour went the length of the trees and sawed 4-5 limbs off each tree. Shocking! Will this damage the trees? This occurred in August of this year. I noticed this fall that the trees did not produce any cones. Could it be because they have been damaged? Thank you.

Oh no! They sawed off the entire limbs? That seems overboard. It may be that the trees didn't create cones in order to preserve their energy. However, it's normal for cone production to occur in higher quantities every few years, so perhaps they're just in a slow year
