My german shepherd had much anxiety with a store bought plastic crate. So I built her a huge roomie crate out of unfinished cedar. She walked right in it and claimed it immediately. She goes inside it as her safe place

This was very helpful, I am very connected to the Cedar trees as they are abundant where I live. I take ritual baths with the dry leaves and use it to smoke cleanse my space. I don't ever take the leaves from the tree, but instead, I collected the dry leaves from the ground. Respect is important.

There are a dozen or more cedars on my property here in the Pacific Northwest but now I’m learning they are actually “false” cedars as true cedars only grow in the Mediterranean and Himalayas. I have no idea what species these are wonder if they have the same spiritual and medicinal properties as your flat cedar. A large branch just fell from one of the trees in my yard and I want to make smudge sticks from the leaves since they’re already down and I won’t have to cut them. I’ve always recognized the life force in plants and minerals so appreciate your reverence for these trees.

Thank you for this fascinating video. Please give me any feedback you can re: the following matter:
I have 15-17 white cedars growing along a 6 foot wooden fence in my backyard. The trees were growing over into the neighbour's yard and what he did was he went the length of the trees and sawed off 4-5 limbs off of every tree at the trunk! Will this hurt the trees? Is there anything I can do? I noticed that for the first time they did not produce cones this fall. No cones for the squirrels to munch on. Only now am learning of the connection between Native culture and cedars. But I have always known that there was something special about these trees. It has been an honour to have them as part of my world. Very painful to look at them now and see them butchered by that f******* neighbour.

Beautiful truths! And I love the hair as an offering! I'm really into doing things my own way, although I do honour certain truths and work with them. Sage is one of those truths. I grew up in poverty in a city ghetto so I was not blessed with teachings like this. As time marched on I became very connected psychically with this Earth. I can talk to animals and feel and sense plants. When I take from the living world I do so with a prayer of thanks and acknowledgement always, but I never thought of leaving an offering until I watched a couple of vids here on TH-cam by the Indigenous people of North America. I like the tabacco use but it does not fully speak to me for that. If I did it I would feel like I'm just copying Native culture. Lately I thought I should start leaving food for the plants I take from and maybe dance or sing a song to them. I was wondering if any indigenous people ever considered anything other than tobacco, after seeing your vid I know some do! Thank you.

    • @katieheinrich

Sounds like you are doing great! Some cultures (shamanic and not) leave coins or food offerings like honey, flowers, etc. Its common to give thanks and other prayers through song, dance, drumming, rattling. I think the most important commonality is that you are giving something of yourself in return for the use of another.

We are just finished dealing with a lot of tree debris after Hurricane Beryl hit Houston...then go check on our land where my Father was born and find this cedar tree... What to with it? I want simply to make cedar mulch for a gelp with all the bugs that invade the house. Thought we coumd rent a commercial chipper or hire it done. But, they are other beautiful things we could try to make too... any ideas? How do we honor this tree?
