- It’s been one year since Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote the landmark majority opinion in Obergefell v. Hodges, a long-sought victory for the gay-rights movement. In a historic ruling following a 5-4 vote, the U.S. Supreme Court deemed that marriage is a Constitutional right. “No longer may this liberty be denied,” Justice Kennedy continued.
It’s recognition that many older gay couples thought they might never see during their lifetime, the legal acknowledgment that love is love. To celebrate the first anniversary of this monumental moment, we’ve partnered with Barefoot Wine to share the stories of five couples, highlighting what it means to them to be legally in love in a world where love wins.

Touches me so deeply. It's difficult to relay just how much. I was with my Partner/Husband for 32 incredible years and when we earned the right to Marry, we did the very next weekend! He passed suddenly and unexpectedly just four years later. I'm still struggling to find my way after nearly five years. This was a love that would never end and yet, it was forced to... "change". It will never "end"... just change. I will always love you, Mike!!! God keep you.
