    A budget less than a tenth of a Marvel move, five people total for special effects, the lead actress is 59 and the charming grandfather is 93; definitely this generation's cinematic crown jewel, on par with the introduction of Pulp Fiction or Silence of the Lambs. Still only some of the TH-cam reactors got around to it, good on you for knowing a classic when you see it 👍🍿❤

    I'm here because it swept Oscars, and the movie rightfully deserved every reward it got. One of the modern masterpiece i've seen in recent years. Besides an interesting theme done well (multiverse), over-the-top hilarious action sequences, great editing and heartwarming drama, it's philosophically thought-provoking too.
    It tells the opposing approach to existentialism that questions our life's purpose and cripples most of us. Pessimistic nihilism vs. optimistic absurdism. The yinyang of everything bagel (black outside, white inside) vs google eyes (white outside, black inside). Empty void inside vs pure core inside. "Nothing matters so might as well destroy everything" vs "Nothing matters so might as well enjoy life". Waymond taught Evelyn and us the latter.

    This movie displaced the film that I've held in my personal "best movie" spot for over 30 years (Amadeus). Such humor, heart, technical expertise and amazing storytelling. Great acting from everyone, great editing, soundtrack, sound design, choreography (which I understand comes from a group of guys who have a TH-cam channel). The most creative movie I've ever seen and one in which the complexities of a multiverse are explained quite easily. 10/10

      Amadeus has always been in my top 10, and is my brother’s lifelong #1.
      Everything Everywhere did to me what it did to you: displaced my personal favorite of, in my case, about 45 years: The Wizard of Oz. It’s still kind of weird to think of The Wizard of Oz as my second favorite, but absolutely nothing can top the crazy perfection of EEAAO.

    I feel Waymond when he blamed himself for all the craziness. If you live a life of pacifism you start to see how arguments are mostly due to misunderstandings and it's frustrating when nobody listens to reason.

      Waymond was my favorite character. He's the guy who just chooses to be happy even when the world around him is a chaotic mess. Throw some googly eyes on it and make the world a slightly brighter, funnier, better place. He always strives to make every situation better rather than worse. The low key hero of the movie, Evelyn ultimately has to learn from Waymond's example before she can be successful.

    I really love this movie. Not only is it a touching story about the relation between a mother and her daughter - not only is it an exploration of what it feels like to have severe ADHD - not only is it a study in meta-modern cinema... it's also a pretty "Niezschean" movie: First, there is disillusionment, being overwhelmed - Nihilism is a reaction to that, and Joy embodies this nihilism. But just like in Nietzsche's philosophy, nihilism is like a ladder that you discard you ascend it.
    Evelyn goes through the disillusionment and loss of values, too - but indeed does rise above that to realize the existentialist core of later Nietzschean philosophy: Since no source of objective morality (or knowledge) is at hand - we create our values, our meaning ourselves. It's possible to see life in all its beauty, horrifying tragedy, mindless boredom and every other facet - and still say "yes" to all of that.

  • @smexijebus
    @smexijebus ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Loved this movie and your reaction! Absolutely a gem! I also highly, highly recommend a thematically similar movie called "Synecdoche, New York". There are thematic similarities (sadly no kung-fu) but I promise you, it's one of the most unique movies you'll ever see. If I had to try to characterize it, I'd describe it as a philosophical dark comedy. And, in my opinion, it's the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman's magnum opus role. The film is also written and directed (directorial debut actually!) by the writer of another favourite of mine, "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". And actually, guess what, his film debut was actually writing "Being John Malkovich"!!
    I don't think it'd ever win any polls or anything, but it's such a deeply, darkly beautiful piece of art, and evoked from me quite similar emotions, and it's just something I'd love to see others see.
    Alternatively, Jet Li's "The One" (2001) is also thematically similar in an entirely different way, and completely chock full of kung-fu choreography! You also get Jason Statham and even Hank from Breakng Bad!

    • @holddowna
      @holddowna  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow I would probably love that! I love ESOTSM and Being John Malkovich!
      Oh cool! I’ve never seen “The One” it has Aaliyah right? I loved her! I’m into watching all movies on my channel! Not all about hits but sharing unique experiences with whoever wants to watch em with me! Thanks for the recco I’ll put it on my list!

    • @smexijebus
      @smexijebus ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@holddowna Ah no, I think that's "Romeo Must Die" with Jet Li and Aaliyah (2000) which I haven't seen but that looks pretty interesting too! The only reason I brought up The One was because I only just realized how oddly similar it was to this despite being a completely different feel. Synecdoche is similar in a philosophical and emotional way, whereas The One is similar in a purely 'multiverse + kung-fu powers' way, haha.
      And yeah, if you love Eternal Sunshine and John Malkovich, you'll definitely love Synecdoche. It's probably Kaufman's best work in my opinion, and that's a really hard title to earn! "Anomalisa" is also another gem of his, a stop-motion piece that's maybe his most intimate yet.
      Anyway, love your reactions, please keep 'em coming!!

  • @dpounder101

    you really need to do a reaction for Beau Is Afraid. its darker than this one and definitely leaves you with more questions than answers but it is similarly absurd and an amazing ride. its not stupid like ari aster said, he just wanted people to enjoy the ride and then maybe try to figure it out afterwards because its hard to make sense of it during. its basically about anxiety shown through the perspective of the main character played by Joaquin Phoenix. almost anything else i could say about the movie would be a potential spoiler but knowing that aspect makes it easier to digest. Everything Everywhere All At Once is probably my favourite movie of all time, at least right now, and i feel like Beau is Afraid is somewhat related to it. they are very different movies but it still somewhat feels like a darker (in terms of themes and tone) sort of companion piece to EEAAO.
