How To Use a Small Wet Saw to Cut Marble/Granite Tiles

- This video goes through the basics of using a small inexpensive wet saw to cut marble or Granite tiles. In the next video, I'll show you how you may cut dry using an angle grinder; however, it does make a lot of dust.
This worked great for redoing the shower/bathtub of my kid's bathroom. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfiuHoZJo3bgdVPFRxQ-iqPpfbEHl2cYt I didn't like the guide, so I took it off. I just used a fine tipped sharpie on the tile and followed that line. It does make a wet mess, and once I started looking like I wet myself I started wearing a towel and apron while cutting. The blade it came with worked great until we wore it out. It was better than the replacement one we bought. I tried looking for just their blade, but failed. Not really for larger tiles unless you stack stuff on either side to support the tiles. Anyway, would definitley buy again.

Great tips, a small cut on the back end of the tile saved my project! Now I need to cut marble mosaic hex. Any ideas on how to make it easy?
Other than setting the saw up to the width of one facet of the hex, I wouldn't know how to make it easier. I'd probably try making a push block cut to the proper angle.

While I appreciate you showing how to use the backside cut, that cut you made at 9:30 could have taken off your thumb. You were so lucky it didn't. I don't recommend ANYONE EVER pushing a tile or anything else through a saw in that method.
He is using a diamond blade, it won't cut you. It is not the same type of blade used to cut wood, which would take your finger off.
The backside cut is sooo obvious, but I NEVER thought of it.
BTW, the fence moved on your last cut.
I used a saw just like that for tiling two bathrooms. I spent $50 on Amazon. It so cheap you really don't mind abusing the heck out of it. It was amazed how fast that little saw could make 24" long cuts through 3/8" thick porcelain.
VERY USEFUL TO ME. i thank you for posting this because i have an identical saw that was given to me and i never had a use for this until now when i am trying to cut some pieces of tile but had no idea as to how to use this saw. i am a woman so i am even more lost. thanks for showing me where the water goes, and the stabilizing arm ? and thanks for showing me how to use it. mary

You can buy a small saw like this for around $60 - $100. Mine lasted through quite a few projects. If the porcelain tiles are small this type of saw is OK. Porcelain is quite hard and I have only used it on several projects where the pieces were small, like 4"x4". Hope this helps, Ron
Im cutting some thin marble tiles and they seem to chip when I get close to the end of the cut. Would a thinner blade work better?
Hi, thanks for your info. I have a bunch of marble maybe 200 pieces that are 3/4' thick and 4" wide and anywhere from 20 to 24" long. I would like to cover some bedroom floors in my home with it or just use it as base trim. I'm a handy man but never with marble. I bought it because it was cheap and beautiful blue/green ocean style.
I would like your advise to know if I could first cut it in half or more in thickness?
Based on your video I should be able to cut the ends as desired.

Tracy, 3/4" is pretty thick; however, I don't imagine there would be any reason it couldn't be used for your floors. It sounds as though it would be great for a base trim. The 24" lengths may be a little unruly cutting them on a small saw such as I used in this video. And, you probably should chamfer the cut edges. Hands down the best advice on tile/ceramic cutting!!! You are extremely knowledgeable! Even other youtubers claiming to give advice on cutting tile/ceramic can't get a clean cut, especially on small pieces.

Is it difficult to cut 12" x 24" tiles on the small portable saw??
James Byus I should think it would be. If you have a lot to cut you should have something much bigger. If the tiles you are cutting are ceramic, you can use a scribe & snap tool. Just look for ceramic tile cutter.
What technology would you need to cut marble/granite bricks out of a block? and could those bricks be used in house construction?

Juan Jimenez I've had it for so long, I really don't remember where or when I bought it . . . guess it must be at least 10 years old. Your question prompted me to do a little research into a new one. The main thing to look for is one that has a removable water tray. The one on my Amazon store www.budmanproductions.com is currently just $54.99 and has a four star rating. Ron, you show the miter block you made to push the tile through the blade evenly then don't use it on either cut. PLEASE edit or redo your video using the miter block. People watching you almost cut your thumb off will think pushing thin cuts by hand is OK when it's NOT!
Tile saws use a diamond blade, won't cut you. Not the same as a wood cutting blade.
