MRL Last Days Part 6 of 6 Oct 13, 2023

  • We start our 6th and final full day back on the east slope of Mullan Pass at the Skyline Trestle in hopes to catch one of the helper sets headed back to Helena. The thermometer in the car was saying 38 degrees F outside. The cloud ceiling was dropping by the minute as we waited. After the east bound helpers went by, we got a westbound loaded coal drag with another set of helpers cut mid way in. Next we head to Blossburg for that helper set to return east, but not before an empty grain train passes by. Having enough of the chilly damp drizzly weather, we head west for some sun to Garrison and waited over an hour before a loaded grainer pulls to a stop to allow a fast moving manifest blow by, which we end up chasing back to Austin, making several stops. We end the day at Austin for 2 more east bounds including a double helper set, yes 8 engines, going by into the darkness. This was a very successful trip, and I hope you enjoyed the series here!

    Fantastic video! Trains are a lot different today than when I was a 5 year old in 1953 SE TX! Much appreciated; locations and scenery with some history to boot!!
