On November 27, 2022, officers were dispatched to a medical emergency at the Miami International Airport. The flight crew attempted to wake up 30-year-old Odell Beckham Jr to fasten his seatbelt but he appeared to be coming in and out of consciousness. When he was asked to leave the plane he refused, causing everyone else to deplane.
The purpose of the featured content is to show the law enforcement interaction. It is NOT to publicly shame, ridicule, or degrade the individuals involved. @@kellylorang6845 If someone is falling asleep, has removed their pants ater being seated under the covers, and the staff don't bother trying to wake him up with any kind of determination (the police were able to wake him up), the airline doesn't have the right to assume drugs or drunk. After the police woke him up, multiple officers claim that he looks fine, doesn't seem intoxicated at all, and he was just asleep. The officers noted that he had his pants on when they were there, so unable to verify that claim. The officers used their judgement and were willing to see this as a misunderstanding and someone deep asleep.... the crew had to push the officers a lot to get them to do something. They didn't see anything wrong wtih him. They were apologising because they couldn't understand why he was being removed, but were follwoing the directions none the less.

As a diehard LSU fan, I cannot say how disappointed I am in Beckham, Jr. He used to be one of my favorite players, but never again! I feel like he has tarnished the name of LSU and every team in the NFL for whom he has played. This type of behavior, this entitlement he feels he deserves, is disgraceful. The way he spoke to the older gentleman who told him he should deplane so that all the other passengers would not have to deplane, was rude and unacceptable. His description of the man to the person he was having a conversation with on the phone bordered on racist. The disrespectful way he spoke to and about the other passengers was also rude and unacceptable. He knew he was going to be forced to leave the plane due to his behavior, and that if he did not leave on his own, everyone else was going to have to leave the plane. This made no difference to him. He stated as much. He had no consideration for the other passengers, who did nothing to him. His bratty behavior is intolerable. He is insufferable.

It's not disgusting, they couldn't see what they were describing. They literally got there and the guy was completely responsive with his pants on. They can't just take the crews word for it and immediately get aggressive or forceful with him. Their main job is to be almost like a mediator, and make a tense situation peaceful if possible.

Ok so here’s the thing, I’m a flight attendant at a major U.S. Airline and the way this was handled was absolutely horrible. Those officers and personnel handled atrociously by letting him off so easy. Especially by letting him talk like that to the other passengers. The way the officers dismissed the crew’s decision for not letting him fly is pathetic. Do they not realize when we take off and are trapped in this metal tube and shit hits the fan we turn into the police and the paramedics if it comes down to it. It’s so disheartening to see how they were ever so kind to him. 100% behind the crew. So sad
I mean he seemed kinda alright. Some people take stuff to take the edge off, because some people really don't like flying. Maybe he took something to pass out. And then he was pissed off that they are taking him off the flight, so started talking smack. I'm not defending his behaviour, but this whole situation smells fishy.

As I see it once on the plane the ones that rule are the crew and cops and paramedic should just care about enforcing the already made decisions, not undermining teamwork of a crew trained and with knowledge about (as you said) what can happen on a flight.

The air crew are trained on how to assess passengers and in their view he was so non-responsive that it became a "medical emergency." Anyone who has their pants off on an airplane is a concern.

My father is a captain and one time I was traveling with him as a child and a drunk famous journalist boarded the plane and raised his voice to a flight attendant asking for alcohol. He called airport police and personally escorted the dude out of the plane, causing just a small delay. Reminded me of that day.
It looks like those days are over now, sadly.
