Those SUV patrol units are nowhere as quick or fast as the 1994 - 1996 Caprice 9C1 which had the same LT-1 engine as the rear wheel drive 1996 Impala SS. Those cars were capable of a 158 mph top speed. I know this as a matter of fact. Since I once topped mine out at 158 mph.

It's a coping mechanism. The cop was scared shitless too... Ppl don't realize just how many crashes cops clean up and what that does to their psyche. The longer that cop has been on the force the more he knows the serious consequences of crashes

Its not THAT bad. I once was driving near Bellingham Wa when 4 high school chearleaders came around a curve in my lane, over the double yellow line, tryng to pass a line of dump trucks over 60mph each. As we passed each other, only INCHES apart, the rear passengers were crawling over their seats to take the wheel. The driver was frozen shitless, white knuckle clutching the wheel going straight. Time slowed down for those passengers who were screaming at the driver. They looked at me while I smiled back. They passed the dump trucks and returned to the right lane. Bet they learned their lesson what double yellow lines mean and why they are not just a "suggestion".

I think many, if not most, fleeing drivers end up with very high adrenaline levels triggering the “fight or flight” response. In that mindset, they can’t think with the same logic that people normally are able to use. They are much more likely to take risks because they think that they have to in order to survive.
This does not excuse the behavior one bit! But it does explain why suspects take risks that they might not normally do. The police were very well trained to make sure that this did not happen to them.

@@GeminiRainbow Typically no, but stuff like stop sticks, it depends on the department's policy, I imagine. Some departments will want the officer to collect the stop sticks immediately regardless of whether or not the deployment is successful. Others will allow the officer that deployed the sticks to continue the pursuit, but radio where they left the sticks so another officer can pick them up. Typically they'll throw them off to the side of the road or in the ditch and another nearby officer will get them. If an officer has a successful deployment, they'll usually stay behind and collect them as it's only a matter of time before the suspect's vehicle becomes completely disabled. If the deployment is unsuccessful, the officer may leave them for another to collect as they want to get back into the chase as quickly as possible.

5:25 It absolutely AMAZES me how people can clearly see police lights coming RIGHT AT THEM, have a car whiz by them going the opposite direction, and they literally just stay in their lane and not even attempt to move over. Like, WTF are you doing?????? People, you must get out of the 2 foot bubble around your heads.

You realize the police are probably going 120mph+ going the opposite direction of that car travelling at 70 mph passing a truck with trailer, they had a matter of seconds to decide which way they were going to swerve to get out of the way and probably froze it’s not everyone who has the reaction time of a navy seal, I doubt it was intentional.
