But thats the whole thing....33% isnt good (especially at like 6 attempts per game) and in the postseason he had two good games, game 2 and 3. he got too cocky after that and proceeded to go 3/19 in games 4 and 5. He has a bit of a hero complex.
Hoops Empire He was second leading scorer and leading playmaker (6Apg) Kemba folded Evan has no defense and after that everyone else was a rookie or second year player which whom did nothing other then Rob/Tristan Marcus’ best attributes don’t come on offense Jrue Holiday(similar role) has horrible 3p% #s in playoffs but we won’t argue his value as a 3 and D point then the man has to play full court defense (sometimes) and then u guys expect them to be as efficient as #1 options dosnt make sense isn’t his role and at sub 20m a year u can’t get that kinda value everywhere in the league especially in our switch happy defense
So much talk about shots you would think he was talking 20 a game when in reality he took 10 shots a game last year and was 5th in shots per game on the team. Smart is absolutely pass first.
It’s more the 3PA I’m talking about. Overall he does not “shoot” the ball that much. But the fact he’s taking about 6 3s per game when he is a well below average shooter is a problem. That number should be slashed in half.
@@hoopsempire5440 The problem with your opinion is that opposing defenses force the ball to Marcus when his man leaves to double the Jay's. This usually forces Marcus to either shoot an open 3 or drive to the lane for contested midrange or layup. Of these 3 shots the open 3 is the most efficient shot and I am sure Brad agreed that these were Marcus' best shot. It is comparably efficient to a CP3 midrange shot and nobody complains about CP3 taking a lot of those shots.
@@gullintanni I mean I partially agree but to say that this happens every time would be a bit outlandish. I agree that it is sort of on Danny for not having good shooters before, but you cannot deny that Marcus smart take some really bad shots sometimes, and gets really caught up in heat checks even if he hasn’t made a shot all night😂
@@TheDallymally That usually only happens when one of the Jay's or Kemba was missing. If he was third or fourth in the pecking order his shot selection was much better.
I’m torn, I hate to lose his defensive prowess, and the fact like you mentioned he is an embodiment of being a celtic, but...things are changing, and honestly i’ll be more upset if we let the lakers overtake our championships than upset over losing smart. i love him. but unless they are willing to make him the starting pg (not the best fit honestly as he is better off ball than being the primary ball handler) there is no need to resign him long term.
I think Stevens created the monster that is Smart... Stevens didn't seem to wanna put him in his place for some reason.. hopefully Ime Udocka will be the voice of reason that Smart needs
Sorry to answer again but knowing how much you like Celts and said about Smart. His points and numbers aren't great or shooting percentage but he seemed to make timely or hustle for comebacks. Your absolutely right it's a matter of dollars. Great about NBA not like MLB.
This video perfectly sums up why Marcus Smart is not worth keeping for the long term. His mindset does not match what Boston needs. If he’s open (which there is a reason why) he’s going to shoot and most likely miss and won’t think twice about it the next time and do it again. Put that mindset with the fact that he never has improved his game, especially on offense and you got a nuisance for the Celtics.
That’s not how that works. You can’t just wait to sign your own players, sign a maximum free agent, and then go back and sign your own free agents. That would make it extremely unfair. I have elaborated in other videos but basically you have to renounce the rights to your free agents to actually gain that Space, and to get rid of the cap hold.
@@hoopsempire5440 Is it not how teams exceed the cap? They can sign a max contract before they extend Smart and Rob as long as they are under the cap including their cap holds.
With the amount of money that beal can get, there is no other way other than to renounce rights. Usually the third star in these big threes has been acquired via trade. Not in free agency, so they can still retain all their free agents because they can just go into the luxury tax, there’s a good chance that the Celtics big three if they get Beal would not be very far into the luxury tax at all. It’s tough, and that’s why it’s much more preferable to trade for him, because in the end of the day you still have to give up a lot of good players
@@hoopsempire5440 It is a stupid strategy to gut the team for a third star wing. I'd rather keep Smart, Rob, Al, Romeo, Josh and Grant than have Beal. What's your opinion on the Moses move? I think it sucks as he had a tiny contract and is a major talent with incredible length.
I agree on the team building front...however moses brown was not good. Definitely a low cap hit, however he is as raw as raw gets...and really just is not good. People get waaaay too caught up in his raw stats
Marcus Smart isn’t Lonzo Ball so they should just trade him and move on. I think the extension was only offered to make him more valuable in potential trades they are trying to pull off.
Listen to Brad’s post draft interview with NBC Sports Boston on their TH-cam. That should say everything about what Brad probably thinks about Marcus smart
I’m totally okay with whatever we get from schroder at 5.9M😂😂 Even if he “takes away” from JT/JB it’s fine. They need more scoring bodies and schroder can playmake, and is a good defender. We see with the nets that the “one ball” argument doesn’t really matter. Celtics now have a solid 3rd option and a well rounded team offensively and defensively
