Since it's 2009, she's had years to perfect being convincing enough. But to the discerning eye, there are those uncanny oddities because they'll never really be human. Same voice actress same house like they said. She wouldn't have the same accent, as it's clearly a regional accent from outside Mandela County, and thus wouldn't have people to mimic that accent from.

That doesn't really sound odd to me. Sometimes strays meow outside your home. If I were them I'd assume she just brushed it off as the cat being outside and only called when she realized the meows came from within the home

The thing that really sells this series is just how normal Alternates are in this universe. The intro shows this perfectly, how they just nonchalantly talk about Alternates like they’re not a paranormal threat to humanity.
You would think that, but are they really? It seems like they’re akin to ghosts in this universe. Everyone’s aware of them, but not everybody necessarily believes in them. At one point, Jonah says he doubts they even exist in the first place

Kudos to Alex for having a horrifying series where characters actually have common sense. Jonah may be a morally-grey one off jokester but at least he wasn't stupid. We all need a Jonah in our lives to tell us better. I wouldn't be surprised if this series set a new standard for contemporary horror, this shit is terrifying.
In the subtitles, Jonah says "OH MY GOD BEHIND YOU" the first time, then there's no indicator of him saying anything the other time, probably meaning it's an alternate saying it. The subtitles add a deeper layer to the whole experience, it's so neat

I am 100% sure the woman was an alternate, purely by her last line. “I appreciate it more than you can think” That’s not the usual expression. It should be “more than you know.” I think it 1. Might have let slip its actual perception of humans aka it’s above their thinking and/or 2. Alternates are slightly off with appearance and speech so it wouldn’t surprise me that their choice of vocabulary gives them away too

Definitely! Definitely an alternate that lured them in. Though I find it interesting that it implies alternates are learning more about humans. That (most) humans have an automatic sympathy towards animals. Cause (at least if the alternates and “the intruder” were aliens) you wouldn’t think they’d know to say something like “I just want to know he (the cat) is at peace” which on the surface is a very human thing to express. At least in my opinion.

Someone who's desperately trying to convince their friend not to walk to their own death, while also having crossed their own limit of what they are fine with and giving one last final attempt while they know it will likely fail. And then to top it off with saying that if they do go, they won't be here anymore. That's totally what I'd do if someone wants to go deeper into the silent hill house instead of getting out.
As the person who tends to be the "therapist friend", it kind of hit home, too. I've definitely watched people go down that stairwell against all judgment, and ultimately all you can do is stand right where you are and see them off to wherever it takes them. The last thing they know is the gaze of a friend, but you don't lose yourself in trying to follow them forever. That's what I strive for as a worst-case scenario, anyway.

Rewatching these, so good. I understand the whole "Satan" theory. In the Adam and Eve apple cartoon, once Adam bites it he specifically mentions he feels afraid; fear being like a conduit for the alternates to effect people. I also like the cartoon references to biblical figures- using them as a metaphor for the internet and communication networks. Moses, Mary, Gabriel- they "connected" people, traveled distances to connect with people, spread a message; just like TVs, networks, videos. They were the alternates early TVs, spreading their influence and tapping peoples' fear.

I like how the creature was tempting Adam much like how the snake did with the apple. The scene with the flashing black and white pictures on the television was horrific. It's frightening how the creature keeps trying to guilt-trip Jonah into returning to the house. I like how we spend most of the video suspecting Adam or Jonah to be an alternate. Like when Jonah's voice keeps screaming that there's something behind Adam and it keeps replaying the exact same way like how the cat did.

I love that when “Adam” is talking to Jonah during his whole speech, Jonah just cuts him off like “FUCKING LISTEN TO ME” That felt real, like something someone would do to talk their friend out of something stupid. Not in some horror thing like this or in a movie, but something that someone in this life would do.
As a person who's overprotective over my friends, the character's acting made me really anxious. It's so good, and the emotions with each lines sent shriver's done my spine.
Note to self: thank you mother and father for not naming me after something religious so that God doesn't decide to use an alternate to ironically murder me
15:20 for those who can't hear it clear the voice says "you followed the shepherd? you are a fool! follow my voice instead. he will not grant happiness. wake up, adam." basically adam thinks he is immortal because the alternates make you go insane and make you take your own life, so jonah was the shepherd who he should not trust, and the alternates are the voice the one who adam should trust.
"When's your next opening?" "Tonight" "How about 3 nights?" The woman was bait. Likely an alternate considering she didn't understand the difference between tonight and two night.
the biggest thing to consider in volume 2 is that the alters are treating adam DIFFERENTLY than anyone else and actually seem to be communicating with adam rather than just replacing him. also 333 is supposed to be a sign that the alternate is around.
The fact the lads did this even though they *know* about alternates is what astounds me. I get that there's an implicit reason Adam keeps poking the hornet's nest, but still.
Tbh there are theories as to why Adam is trying to poke the nest. There is even a theory said that he is actually the missing child from the intruder alert and he got this personal crusade against the alternates. He even can fend off the phsychological attacks of the alternates as shown in the video. In short he is an anime Protagonist.

The “behind you” section wouldn’t have gotten me if they didn’t set up the world as well as they did. The people behind this are incredible and I would love to see a bigger budget for it
One thing i like about this series, is when it does a jumpscare, it's not so much a screamer as it is something freaky just appears and a soft yet unfamiliar, alien, and unsettling sound plays. It's way more effective than just a loud sounds.
Jumpscares with loud sounds are scary at first, but after awhile, I just get kind of annoyed. Like the jumpscare is trying to hard. Jumpscares like this though creates a feeling of unease. Like I'll aways remember them.
The most horrifying part for me: at 21:26, unlike all the previous dialogues, the text didn't pop up on the screen, suggesting that was an alternate speaking and the real Adam didn't want Jonah to leave

I think the funniest part about his questioning of the ghost is he's questioning a cat. He's like 'what's your name?' do you expect a meow? Cats basically stare at people and communicate nonverbally amongst themselves.

For those of you curious why the alternate was able to manipulate the TV in the end, it was an analog TV and analog signals are notoriously easy to hack. That’s why things like VHS are used, because alternates can manipulate them easily
It sounds like the kids took up “Alternate hunting” not believing it to be a true threat and hoping to make some money in the process after one lost a loved one in an Alternate incident. Kinda like dumb, teenage Winchesters.
Yeah, I got the feeling the Alternate hunting was half vengeance, half deathwish that just turned into them getting greedy/cocky (hence them not suspecting the "woman'" despite her being pretty sketchy). I also wonder if they're actually on the run because they were blamed for the death of the loved one. They mentioned how most people don't believe Alternates are real, and it seems like they're not super common outside of the Mandela area, so a weird Alternate death might've looked like a murder to some.
Well Alternates kill you by making you kill yourself,but if you want to hear what they say,they can't kill you which is why Adam survived the Alternate encounter
I think it's actually implied that Adam is the baby that was taken from his home by the intruder/Alternate in another Mandela Catalogue video. And the reason he's being so reckless is because he's trying to find who took him from his home that day.
Imagine yourself being in a supposedly haunted house and your friend screams "LOOK BEHIND YOU" twice. 'dude shut up' is the worse possible fucking response.
I love how the characters in this volume allude to their biblical figures. Adam gives in to temptation and wants to continue searching down the basement, like how Adam in the Bible gave into temptation and bit the forbidden fruit, while Jonah runs away to avoid what Adam is trying to search for, just like how Jonah in the Bible tried to run from God to avoid going to Nineveh, the city whose people he was supposed to give God's message to.
I saw a previous comment about Adam giving into the temptation of going to the basement like how Adam gave into sin in the bible, and it made me wonder how Jonah fit his story line in the bible. I forgot that Jonah tried to run instead of going to the city with God's message.
I'm not into horror but I keep watching Jack's play-throughs and stuff... I'm very interested to see more of these parallels - who else is he going to bring in? I wonder if Judas will eventually show up (biblical names are normal for males but Judas isn't common for a reason).

This is the most unique horror type story I've ever seen. The idea is so original and I'm so anxious for what's going to happen next, because it's not predictable at all. Alex is doing a fantastic job of ramping up the creep and the unsettling vibes.
It actually kind of makes sense with the character names of Jonah and Adam. In the bible, Adam let's his curiosity get the better of him and takes a bite from the forbidden fruit. In the video, Adam goes down into the basement even though his friend told him not to. In the bible, Jonah turns his back on God and flees from his responsibility. In the video, Jonah flees and leaves Adam behind even after getting the feeling that he was in danger.

9:33 "What's that sound?" Just to clear it up for you, its the sound of the "Spirit box" Changing channels. The spirit box changes channels at a rate which I Cannot remember, I do think its like 100 channels a minute, this is so the ghost can communicate in-between channel changes. But because of how fast it is, its also loud, Really loud, it why you can hear it.
I love how Adam’s name is a clue as to what will happen. Like if you know about the biblical imagery “theme” in this series then you can make the connection that Adam will chose to “bite the apple” before it even happens. It’s honestly amazing, great work all around!
If the names are symbolical and recreating biblical themes, then we could also predict Jonah's behavior too who is also in the Bible. He ignores a calling from God to go a group of people and preach to them, instead going as far away as he could, and spent 3 days and nights in a big fish (commonly thought to be a whale although it's never explicitly stated) as "punishment" until he accepts what God has called him to do. I'm not really sure how this story could parallel to the narrative of this series, but it could be something to keep in mind as the series continues considering the heavy biblical themes. Just something you made me think about
Y’know they could throw in a jumpscare in these videos and it’d be the most effective jumpscare. But they don’t really do that. They never release the tension.

In the subtitles, Jonah says "OH MY GOD BEHIND YOU" the first time, then there's no indicator of him saying anything the other time, probably meaning it's an alternate saying it. The subtitles add a deeper layer to the whole experience, it's so neat

That’s not the usual expression. It should be “more than you know.” I think it 1. Might have let slip its actual perception of humans aka it’s above their thinking and/or 2. Alternates are slightly off with appearance and speech so it wouldn’t surprise me that their choice of vocabulary gives them away too

Definitely! Definitely an alternate that lured them in. Though I find it interesting that it implies alternates are learning more about humans. That (most) humans have an automatic sympathy towards animals. Cause (at least if the alternates and “the intruder” were aliens) you wouldn’t think they’d know to say something like “I just want to know he (the cat) is at peace” which on the surface is a very human thing to express. And then to top it off with saying that if they do go, they won't be here anymore. That's totally what I'd do if someone wants to go deeper into the silent hill house instead of getting out.
As the person who tends to be the "therapist friend", it kind of hit home, too. I've definitely watched people go down that stairwell against all judgment, and ultimately all you can do is stand right where you are and see them off to wherever it takes them. The last thing they know is the gaze of a friend, but you don't lose yourself in trying to follow them forever. That's what I strive for as a worst-case scenario, anyway.

Rewatching these, so good. I understand the whole "Satan" theory. In the Adam and Eve apple cartoon, once Adam bites it he specifically mentions he feels afraid; fear being like a conduit for the alternates to effect people. I also like the cartoon references to biblical figures- using them as a metaphor for the internet and communication networks. Moses, Mary, Gabriel- they "connected" people, traveled distances to connect with people, spread a message; just like TVs, networks, videos. They were the alternates early TVs, spreading their influence and tapping peoples' fear.
Honestly, even though this is just fiction, it is still very disturbing.

It's frightening how the creature keeps trying to guilt-trip Jonah into returning to the house. I like how we spend most of the video suspecting Adam or Jonah to be an alternate. Like when Jonah's voice keeps screaming that there's something behind Adam and it keeps replaying the exact same way like how the cat did.
Jonah is a biblical name as well. Jonah was a prophet if I remember correctly, so that makes sense given the warning he gives Adam

One thing i like about this series, is when it does a jumpscare, it's not so much a screamer as it is something freaky just appears and a soft yet unfamiliar, alien, and unsettling sound plays. It's way more effective than just a loud sounds.

Yeah, I got the feeling the Alternate hunting was half vengeance, half deathwish that just turned into them getting greedy/cocky (hence them not suspecting the "woman'" despite her being pretty sketchy). I also wonder if they're actually on the run because they were blamed for the death of the loved one. They mentioned how most people don't believe Alternates are real, and it seems like they're not super common outside of the Mandela area, so a weird Alternate death might've looked like a murder to some.

I think it's actually implied that Adam is the baby that was taken from his home by the intruder/Alternate in another Mandela Catalogue video. And the reason he's being so reckless is because he's trying to find who took him from his home that day.

I love how the characters in this volume allude to their biblical figures. Adam gives in to temptation and wants to continue searching down the basement, like how Adam in the Bible gave into temptation and bit the forbidden fruit, while Jonah runs away to avoid what Adam is trying to search for, just like how Jonah in the Bible tried to run from God to avoid going to Nineveh, the city whose people he was supposed to give God's message to.
There’s definitely a lot of religious parallels and imagery in this series! I’m curious to see where it goes with all of it.

This is the most unique horror type story I've ever seen. The idea is so original and I'm so anxious for what's going to happen next, because it's not predictable at all. Alex is doing a fantastic job of ramping up the creep and the unsettling vibes.

It actually kind of makes sense with the character names of Jonah and Adam. In the bible, Adam let's his curiosity get the better of him and takes a bite from the forbidden fruit. In the video, Adam goes down into the basement even though his friend told him not to. In the bible, Jonah turns his back on God and flees from his responsibility. In the video, Jonah flees and leaves Adam behind even after getting the feeling that he was in danger.

I love how Adam’s name is a clue as to what will happen. Like if you know about the biblical imagery “theme” in this series then you can make the connection that Adam will chose to “bite the apple” before it even happens. It’s honestly amazing, great work all around!
If the names are symbolical and recreating biblical themes, then we could also predict Jonah's behavior too who is also in the Bible. He ignores a calling from God to go a group of people and preach to them, instead going as far away as he could, and spent 3 days and nights in a big fish (commonly thought to be a whale although it's never explicitly stated) as "punishment" until he accepts what God has called him to do. I'm not really sure how this story could parallel to the narrative of this series, but it could be something to keep in mind as the series continues considering the heavy biblical themes. Just something you made me think about
