    Seriously, more people need this video in their lives. Who DOESN’T want a cherry tree?? The cost of cherries is ridiculous!

    Black Cherry is a great tree ! I have a few growing in North Central Maine and they get pretty tall....80-90 ft. I pick the first 20 ft or so and the wildlife LOVE what's left. Great choice for permaculture canopy. Did you know they also call that species "Rum Cherry" ? Lol. May want to build a small still 😁 Great video...love your setup.

    The music is so intense. It makes me feel like I'm watching a villager work in a video game.

      I agree, the music is from Vigo and kicks butt. I also feel like a villager in a video game specially when I have to work really really fast like that.

      Thank you we really love it here. I did some reading when I got my black cherry tree and it seems that if you want cherries you will need at least 2 trees. I had 2 but one died so I need to get another sometime in the near future.

      @@JimBobsGarden Aw man. I bought one last year and took it 40 miles to a va higher elevation where I lived. The leaves came off but I thought it was alive all this time until a week ago I checked because it never grew leaves and realized it wasn’t. That’s why I can’t across your video for research. Thank you so much! 🙂

    I planted about 100 black cherry trees and for some reason they grow in all different directions i hope they straighten out as they get older. They are only three feet tall at the moment two years in. Should I plant a different type of cherry next to these for pollination reasons so I can get the most cherry i can?

      @@sonialara5756 I will be making one here in a few days for the first day of Spring. Most of my trees are leafing or budding out but so far the black cherry is still bare along with the guava and 2 of 3 apples. It has been a weird year weather wise, but the black cherry has been growing every year but very slowly.

    I had an awesome peach tree and my humongous horse rubbed on it and broke a large branch. Then my retired fire Captain neighbor (about 24 acres away) thought it would be a good idea to burn garbage during a drought. His carelessness took out 50 acres, mine being 8 of them. The tree struggled and before it died, I took a healthy branch and restarted it.
    When I take a picture to identify it, it says it's a black cherry tree. Last year it said the same thing. I want to remove it from the pot and plant it in the ground but was really wanting my juicy peaches.
    Do you have any idea why a peach tree would grow into a black cherry tree? Do you think the fire had something to do with it?

    • @JimBobsGarden
      @JimBobsGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No that is not how it works. A black cherry tree is a black cherry tree and a peach is a peach tree. Nothing that I am aware of can change that. Your identification app might have it wrong, and the leaves are somewhat similar, but it cannot change anymore than a burned horse could become a cow. Plant it and let it grow and see what it becomes and in the meantime see if you can get a new peach tree. Two peach trees are better than one.

    After 4 years it would be interesting to see how the tree is doing.

    • @JimBobsGarden
      @JimBobsGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So it turns out it is not a black cherry tree. Though I bought it online from a good nursery it is actually a persimmon tree. Not only that but once I started to really investigate it I found out I had a couple of really large black cherry trees in my yard already. So in the end it was a total fail but the tree is doing just fine.

    Do you need a specific kind of soil for it to grow? Or can you just plant it outside?

    • @JimBobsGarden
      @JimBobsGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They grow wild here so I don't think so. I have several that are 30+ feet tall on my property and so does my neighbor. Had I known this I would never have bought one.

    How are those cherry plants doing today?

    • @JimBobsGarden
      @JimBobsGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So that is a funny story. One of them died but the other one has come back year after year but my wife has a plant ID app and it says that it is actually a persimmon. Then after looking at what a black cherry tree actually looks like I found that I have had several of them in my yard the whole time and they are huge. We are still waiting for the tree to flower or make something so we can truly tell what it is but the leaves do not look like the black cherry trees we have growing.

    I was wondering how long they take to produce fruit? This is my first time planting one. They are supposed to get 4 to 5 feet in diameter with a height of around 10 feet. 🍒🍒🍒

    • @JimBobsGarden
      @JimBobsGarden  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the delay. Life, you know. I am not totally sure but I have seen videos showing 6-8 foot trees with fruit. To be honest I am not sure this is even a black cherry tree. We bought it online and it looks more like a persimmon tree to the apps we have but it will have to grow more to find out. We did find out that we have several black cherry trees in our tree line at the back of the property and even the 8 inch diameter one is dropping fruit but I am not sure how long it has been here. We bought the house 7 years ago and it has been there from the start.

    I'm watching this because I have a black cherry seed germinating and I plan to grow it. But its only a table fruit so I cant use it to brew anything like wines

    • @JimBobsGarden
      @JimBobsGarden  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I understand the Prunus Serontina, which is the tree that I have, is really only good for wine and pies and such so depending on the variety that you have you might be fine.
