Patience , Patience , that is what I find amazing is the patience you have. Most try and rush, I myself do so far to often, you always remind me to be patient . Magnificent work
Oh, my word, that winter painting at the beginning is absolutely beautiful! With living in an area where we experience long snowy winters (New Hampshire, USA), wintry scenes are very popular here.
I bought some of Michael's brushes. The brushes are excellent. I'm just learning how to paint and have a collection of very cheap brushes. Michael's brushes instantly allowed me to see the difference between low quality brushes vs hi-quality brushes. His brushes have improved my paintings (MHO) by allowing greater control when needed. I will buy again. As for the video, Michael's instructions are just right in terms techniques, colors, mediums, and brushes. I only wish I had his skill :)
Your painting of individual blades is absolutely wonderful! My paintings have improved so much thanks to you. I still strive to reach your creative level. Thank you so much. On a different note , that winter scene you did is utterly fantastic! I look forward to seeing that on MJStv soon.
Every single tutorial is an absolute master work on effectively using this fantastic method. I sincerely wish I had learned this technique 30 years ago.
I watched your lessons here in Aus for a number of years wiith great interest and respect. From someone who has always enjoyed art and is getting up in years, I find your lessons a great motivater. Sincerely thankyou!!
Love your paintings Michael great teacher, i follow your techneques and improving all the time. I love land scapes but I have been challenged with a city scape. have you ever had this mass of buildings, straght lines and thousands of windows or something you avoid?
Greetings from Texas, I watched a few of your videos a couple of years ago when I was 22. Four years later, here I am again and now I am hooked on your videos.
Thank you. I have watched it several times and it helps so much. One problem is getting the brush to make the lines and not get really thick marks. I think it’s a matter of thinness and how you move the brush. Light touch. Really good stuff.
Ive had the tendancy of rushing through grasses and using colors that arent quite right, probably because the grasses are not the main subject. But watching you has shown me that it is essential to pay attention to all aspects if you want that realism effect. Thank you, sir, for sharing.
I am completely gobsmacked! Your attention to details is clearly seen in the end results. As a Norwegian I am particularly impressed seing how good you are to paint snow. A very famous norwegian painter said once that if you can paint snow you can paint anything. You really master the art of painting snow.
Hello Michael, greetings from Southeast Michigan, I saw that you commented on one person question to you about selling their paintings that they created from your lessons and you said that you don't advise them from doing that, why? This painting is stunning, I really enjoyed the lesson. Thank you so much for doing these.
Hi, 👋 I don’t actively discourage students selling their paintings lessons but there’s often confusion regarding copyright. Also, there are potentially thousands of the same painting or at least the same scene that already exists. I wouldn’t want to buy what I thought was an original painting if there are loads of them in circulation. The point of the school is to teach students how to paint and take what they learn to use in to their own work. 😊
I've watched all of your videos on YT and I'm always looking forward for the next one. You have a very good taste in using colors and choosing the subject. Could you please tell me what kind of paper you use in this picture? Thank you and greetings from Italy.
hi michael another amazing painting. can you please show us how to paint wooden surfaces like doors, tables etc. these are missing from your channel so far. ty for everything you do.
Hi, are you allowing the different layers of grass shades to dry a little before going over with the lighter ones. I sometimes find I'm smudging the grasses if I go wet in wet with the fan brush. And it can start to look messy.
During the fast-forward your strokes sounded liken a dragonfly's stiff wings fluttering against the porch light it was attracted to. I meant no rudeness as I revere the fairy horses (& always quickly flip the light switch so their wings do not get burnt nor look like your fan brush there). Did you use the ole grinder on the fan, liken ages before? You're so gentle, wish I had you for a dentist where I'd never feel what you were doing under the bonnet. So who in the family plays electric piano? I can hear the keys "rub", could it be you, most artists are multi-talented. Keeping to subject, noone can compare with the Master Genius of Grass, I am stunned after each viewing of you working it. Incredible it is. Wish I had half your skill, leave your hand & brain part for me in your Will, please. They won't be wasted, no no. ❤🤠
Hi Michael, really enjoy your videos! Wonder if you’ve ever experienced eye strain or headaches from painting, and if so, do you have any tips for getting around this? Thanks!
Hi, I’ve never suffered from headaches but I used to strain my eyes. Glasses fixed that! The biggest problem for me is a weakness in my back caused by reaching around a camera. As a result, walking gives me a fair amount of discomfort. I do exercises to minimise it.
@ Thanks for replying! I have issues with my neck and shoulders from sitting at a computer all day so I do exercises to minimize that as well. Unfortunately, glasses don’t help my near vision, so the neck and eye strain combine to lead to migraine type headaches every time I paint. I actually tried wearing sunglasses last week while I painted and although not ideal, it did cut down on the eye strain some.
Hola Michael me gustaría suscribirme pero No puedo al no poder ver los vídeos con un audio adicional en habla ispana. El día que esté audio en castellano ganarás muchos más seguidores.saludos.

I loved this, thank you, but I have to ask - is there any news on distribution into Canada that doesn't involve crazy shipping costs? I want the smaller size tree and texture brush for a start, but I really want to try your paints when they come out.
@MichaelJamesSmith educated guess...thank you for the inspiration, and the absolute best advice: keep on working ...great for building stamina, which is essential for realistic painting.....
Thank you for all I learned many things from drawings and soon draw some of your drawings and learn more. So true! This is the 1st time I've ever looked at a winter scene and actually FELT the cold, crisp air in my senses!
Sir, your painting looks more realistic than the original photo. How many hours do you spend in one day while painting?

Do we need to wet brush while painting grass
I love your work. Were I to study in your school, am I allowed to sell paintings done in process? I live in tiny home and have no room to keep any.
Some students do sell their paintings but I don’t really encourage it.
You can find my school here: www.michaeljamessmith.tv
@@MichaelJamesSmithThat's a very fair tuition. 😊
How many blades of grass have you painted in your life, or did you lost count.😊
My guess…..over 100 but less than 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

could you substitute a rosemary tree and texture brush for the tatty fan by using downward strokes? maybe you could add a pre tattied fan to your brush sales!
That’s a good idea! I also have/sell my own tree & texture brush. I don’t use Rosemary brushes anymore.
