I bought one of these when they first came out. It was a very rare one, with a special factory colour code, dark blue and silver lined sports kit. If I could remember it was build 198 and I also had the number plate TE50.
I remember the day the cover was removed from that car in the work shop of 33 Glenbarry road. I was there when it happened. The TE TL and TS saved Tickford......and that blueprint colour. The last of the Aussie Windsor V8s. What great days they were.
@@bluespig1 The AU was a ghastly piece of shit that was a great car underneath. Thank god for the Taurus otherwise it could have taken the moniker of uglyest car on the planet
An intresting little story about these big old strokers. These were raced in the bathurst 12 hour in 2002 and really sent it. And they were actually faster that the BA GT that replaced them with the 5.4 and all the design work of prodrive's new fpv. Years later, the production cars are being forced to run on medium compound indian used trailer tires for the bathurst 6 hour. And the last of the aussie v8's (the gtf and vf gts) are only a second faster than the TE50 was.
wow i did not know that.. that is dam impressive for the TE50! i believe it tho.. it felt better than my 5.4 boss V8 and its the newer model.. could imagine with the right mods as well these strokers would be insane
@@RossReviewsau cant do much more to these windsors without upgrading the block 400hp and youll risk splitting the block in half, Tickford had the balance of power and reliability at 340-350hp
I bought my T3 TE50 when I was 23 and drove back home across the Nullabor in 2006. It's the most fun car I've ever driven, so manageable at the limits, although it can bite. Mine is completely stock and I've managed a 13.5s quarter mile, I think someone has done a 13.4 too, which is very impressive. Had to rebuild the engine at 130k after a main bearing failure almost destroyed it but managed to save the block so its still matching numbers. It's a garage queen now, but whenever I take it out it gets a thrashing. If i ever have to sell my cars it'll be the last to go. Great review dude, nailed all the particulars too. Sell you BA and get a Pursuit 250, you wont regret it.
thats a wicked story m8! so cool to hear you still have it and rebuilt her! they are such cool cars.. im hoping to review a Pursuit 250 soon i know of one here in perth :) will be interesting might have to make a comparison video with my BA haha
Yes I agree Tim these cars are amazing, but a bit like you my TS50 T3 is a garage queen these days.Yes I can believe that 13.5 quarter mile, these cars have so much torque!!. Here's a T3 only engine mods...Hurricane exhaust, homemade Cai MSD ignition. th-cam.com/video/Kap_t3SpcmE/w-d-xo.html 13.16 at 107.12 mph
There used to be a great Autospeed article (gone now) that showed a graph of the 5.6l engines incredibly flat torque curve. Makes for an exceptionally drivable car. All the things that made it a bad new car (lumpiness at idle, poor body finish, no traction control, shocking city fuel consumption, very short 1st gear, taxi like interior) are what make it a legend today.
@@mungburger agree, comparing my ba xr8 (with some modes) to my T3, The BA drives like a road car trying to make out it's a race car, but the T3 Drives more like a race car trying to make out it's a road car.
thanks Jack! its amazing some of these Aussie cars as they really were so good yet near on none of the world knows about them.. good to see you back at the channel m8
Another great review mate i just sold my gun metal grey AU series 111 TE50 replica with BA F6 typhoon rims couldn't afford a real one lol body kit worth more than car, only had 6 cyl but had flash tune with 290kw+, no saggy roof liner only service once, drove to Melbourne from toowoomba and back never missed a beat
The reason the T series falcons with the Windsor engines had a zero tow capacity is because the used blocks from the US that had a lot of the strengthening material removed to reduce the weight of the block. On the test dyno's under heavy loads they would break the block. Also some of the first ones sold to customers managed to break the blocks when towing.
I had a work AUII, i ordered the bench seat option and could carry 6 people, it had a column shift auto and foot hand break, the car was geared high so had problems laying rubber. It was a good cruiser until someone hit me up the back at the lights, it saved me ;)
Thanks Jon ..In an otherwise sickening bleak week of nothing but depressing news from all over the world this review put a smile on my face .. If I won Tattslotto tonight I'd do two things on Monday .. First thing is I'd organise the body shop to drop off my AU ll Futura for a full respray to factory standard and the second thing is I'd start the hunt for a TE or TS 50 immediately ...I LOVE THE TICKFORD AU's for the very reasons you mentioned..Thanks for indulging us with a great vid again .

Loved the review And have to agree the t3 te50 is the best looking au to come out, Shame it came out too late Now you’ll have to find a vx clubsport or a vt gts to compare 😂 Keep it up mate 🤙
cheers bro! ya it really is the best looking AU.. im hoping to find more older cars like this as they are so cool n not much is out there on them.. so lets hope i can find them!
Great review Ross like the way U interpret the Aussie way. Only one way to Drive a Ford Down under is Flat Stick & get some public with the Rock box blasting away & only slow down when parking it
Great review as always. Those were the glory days of aussie motoring. The AU wasn’t the best falcons to have ever come out but they sure made it up with the BA’s and so on 🤙
Hey mate. Look there’s no denying it, once you’ve driven one you want one. Just remember you have a mint xr8 Ute in your driveway that will sure bring you smiles every time you see it. Keep up with the reviews, your one lucky man👊
I think the AU will go down as the most underrated Falcon ever made. As far as durability, serviceability and functionality. The Series 1 and those grills were ahead of their time and today considering what is about at the moment a lot less ugly. Australian made gearboxes, engines {except for the V8 that was useless anyway as they would split in half if you built them to over 500hp} electronics. They made the boot spoiler a thing in their time as well. Tens of Thousands of Commodores, Falcons, Magnas and other assorted cars all of a sudden needed these extra bits of plastic mounted on the rear, the soccer moms just couldn't do without them. The AU standardized the large diameter wheel and brakes in Australia where as prior 15" was seen as big. Big wheels made everything ride better and tires lasted longer due to the extra rubber. I would say though the TE 50 was way overpriced in it's time considering a a brand new Commodore with an LS1 VT series 2 was 30K cheaper and in a manual would see the TE off pretty easily. The car to get from this era if you ever find one is the VT series 1 with the blue print 5.7. Highly under rated.
gotta agree! it really did feel far superior in build quality and over all driver feel.. the interior is nothing to look at but i will last the test of time 100% very much underrated and fords figures i think we're on the low side as usual lol tickford created something special with this car n i really wish i had one
I had a 98 Fairmount Wagon with a 5 litre Windsor stroker caste Iron engine,it was Tickford enhanced as well, with the rims and body kit,Silver with tints, and lowered a touch. It could be heard 4 blocks away, had the deepest rumble and sweetest sound, gutted i sold it now,the new owner couldn't handle the power, and wrapped it around a power pole at 12am one morning,on a drugs mission.
As iv said before keep up the great work. Love the reviews. And love the passion for Australia cars. And as well the ( wwwwhhhhoooo hoooooo hoooooo ) when the right foot is down. True appreciation.
Great review mate... I wish I had the coin to buy one of these.., me and my dad were in love with them back when they were new.. I like the interior in the TE50 better.. wheels magazine got 5.6sec to 100 when new in perfect conditions...
i reckon this could still get there haha my driving was not the best spun the wheels a bit in first so lost some time.. they are so cool these cars i really really want one now haha! lets hope youtube can eventually buy me one! ha
thank you glad you enjoyed the review.. they really are amazing cars.. n you rarely get to see them anymore.. big thanks to the owner who trusted me to take it out for the day :)
AU Series 2 and 3 I liked, with the XR6 and XR8. The TS50 and TE50 were a nice top end car and I didnt really like the look of the replacements after these fantastic editions.
I love your reviews mate. Along with most everyone else, I hated the AU when it came out. Now I don't mind them at all and that one looks [and sounds] awesome :)
My brother sold his for peanuts about 6 years ago he bought it brand new , unfortunately he needed to sell it. He purchased a fgx xr8 sprint in 2016 but still missing the tickford.
least it didn't have a rusty boot lid... some bro pulled up beside me today in a stocko Au and said "hey bro you know you got rust in your boot" haha its a big fucking rusty embarrassing hole, doesn't just happen over night but hey good Samaritan i guess, anyway was like "yehhhhhh mate the Aye yous brother they known to get a rusty ass" he was like "ohh true i just bought mine last week"
@@lulurobot2065 My goodness what a shame! 😔 Hopefully it wasn't anything too special like a TE, TS, XR6, XR8 etc. And that it was just some old shit-box Forte! Otherwise that be real sad for the owner! 😢 But I'm sure that in the worst-case-senario a new boot lid can be sourced from the wreckers anyway! So all good! ☺👍
I first knew this car in Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 for the PS2 and since then I always love the design as well that blue color, sadly here in Costa Rica theres no way in hell to get a hand of one of those not even the base model hahshah
Costa Rica! so cool you have made it to my little Aussie yt channel! love this car also.. i never knew about it untill like 2 weeks before reviewing it! haha so happy i got the chance to take it out very cool car
AU's were ugly but they sure as hell did a good job on the tickfords. Ts50 had a much nicer interior, this looked bland. Pretty sure the autos had the traction control and the steering wheel button gear changers. I remember dad had an AU as a company car, and those window switches were a trip at first, I think it's coz the trim sloped downward, rolling the switch backward, was at a higher point, hence window up? Can you review some of the LWB/town cars? Anyways, love your work as always mate, sounding more and more like an aussie, especially when you say bloody 😂
thanks! yes i think you are correct on all of that. tickford def pulled a rabbit out the hat with this car haha i looks so good n when you see what they had to go off, man they did well.. cheers for the suggestion i will try my best to find one!
One of the greatest Australian cars ever. Don't be surprised when we're all old and crusty that these will be fetching the same big $$ like the X series falcon of the 70's are today.
@@haroldcampbell4531 Sorry bud , I worked for Tickford/Prodrive in the future model engineering department at broadmeadows as a technician and this is what we were being told by the engineers was the problem with blocks, the later blocks for the falcons were being sourced from the US and were lightened a lot to reduce weight in their trucks. I don't know if ford had trouble in the states with the engines as trucks engines are loaded a lot also. I can only tell you what I was told at the time. Cheers
Hopefully you didn't get caught driving without the number plates! But as always great review, I just hope that one day you can get a hold of a TS50 one day! 😘
had a permit to take it out :) but ya very cool car.. TS50 is like adam said the same car with minor trim differences (dash) hope to see one someday tho!
@Adam Dalla-libera That's right but the TS50 also had different rims (5 spoke) and white background for the instrument cluster rather than a blue background.
I reckon it looks better than the BA and BF Falcons, since it has the same aggressive, modern body kit whilst maintaining the uniqueness of the AU head/taillight design. Whereas the the head/taillight design on the BA/BFs doesn’t match up to the styling of the doors. I also feel that all the Tickford AU’s look how the AU should’ve always looked, including the ones from 1999 onwards, so if anything they already nailed design near the beginning. Just that they didn’t have the common decency to make it affordable and mass-produced.
yeh i gotta agree tickford got it right with these.. they look really good.. not sure if better than a BA/BF but very close.. i do love the TE50 front end tho especially.. its a shame they where so expensive back in the day
@@RossReviewsau Yup, to me it's just that when the AU actually looks right, with the Tickford styling, the BA's look somewhat boring in comparison. Although I'm probably comparing it to the standard models rather than the FPVs. Considering how the BF and FG appear, maybe if Ford had made slight adjustments so their standard AU's looked more like the Tickfords, they may have kept the Falcon's throne as the best selling Aussie car. And then there's the Ford R5 concept in 2000, which literally looks like the middle ground between the AU and BA headlight design.
@@Gazzitas yes i think i know what your referring to it was a coupe ya? they made a prototype but never actually sold them? could be wrong lol ya i reckon you gotta compare the tickfords with the FPVs tho.. both amazing looking cars in my eyes.. hard to pick a winner

@@RossReviewsau yeah that's the twin A arm rear end, and that's also why they don't want you to tow, plus that 0-5 weight engine oil , . I have the TS-50 in an Auto and does have traction control and there is no on / off switch for it, its a painful process to turn off, they are an 18 year old car now but every time I take it out it still turns heads .

glad you enjoyed it m8! i honestly feel the Windsor 5.6 was better.. similar but i think the TE50 had the advantage.. when i got back into my BA ute after the drive everything felt soft and just lacking in torque
@@queenslandballistics2987 not interesting litrally know fact 10kw difference one with lumps of low down torque and power coming on early and one that needs to rev hard to use max torque and power and its all over within 1500rpm
I had an EF Fairmont when these came out. It was when there were heaps of aftermarket wheels being made of XR6/8 wheels for EF, etc. offset/stud pattern. All these wheels became available and all I wanted were these style of wheels.
owning both a BA XR8 and a TS50 T3, i think the BA looks a little bit more prettier, but T3 looks more meaner and aggressive and definitely turns more heads.
Another nice review Johnny mate, the old mighty Au,all Fords have bland interiors I wish Ford had of spent more like Holden did,but they all go like a rat up a drainpipe so I forgive them hahaha, also hope you review a FG Xr6 n\a with the Zf eventually just to get your opinion,ok mate looking forward to your next vid take care.

Yes , having owned an au for 16 years & a bf for 8 years , the au in any guise is superior to the ba & later falcons in most respects , but the t3 te50 is something special , you can tell the way Ross reacted when he first started driving it & he too has heaps of time driving later model falcons .

TE = Tickford Energy. TS = Tickford Supreme. TL = Tickford Luxury. But that was never documented by Tickford, only through very limited mention in the press. FTE = Ford Tickford Experience, the branding for the exclusive dealer network that sold T-Series, Cougar and later the RHD converted Mustangs. (’experience’ related, mostly, to the owners visiting the factory while their car was being built, even lending a hand, but also having far greater say in tailoring the car’s option than ever before, a single technician assigned to their car which would be serviced in a special area of the workshop, concierge service on standby to book restaurants etc) TVE = Tickford Vehicle Engineering. The business entity.
Adam Dalla-libera it wasn’t just sportier, it was more refined (Koni, variable rate springs, lighter front swaybar), more powerful and more luxurious (full leather vs cloth, ghia trim). Better in every way: Supreme. But if you have a link to the article I’m happy to be proven wrong.

wow! very nice does he still have em?? would be a epic collection
@@RossReviewsau sadly not. He sold them all
The AU is a great car I have a XR8 series 3 really nice to drive you're reviews are really interesting coming from someone who is objective.
Thanks mate glad you enjoy them! gotta love the AU in all forms eh
I bought one of these when they first came out. It was a very rare one, with a special factory colour code, dark blue and silver lined sports kit. If I could remember it was build 198 and I also had the number plate TE50.
thats awesome man.. they are brilliant cars! would love a TE50
I remember the day the cover was removed from that car in the work shop of 33 Glenbarry road. I was there when it happened. The TE TL and TS saved Tickford......and that blueprint colour.
The last of the Aussie Windsor V8s. What great days they were.
what a great surprise it would have been!
No, the AU saved Ford. It and the XB were Fords two biggest sellers of all time.
@@bluespig1 The AU was a ghastly piece of shit that was a great car underneath. Thank god for the Taurus otherwise it could have taken the moniker of uglyest car on the planet
I love the Canadian and Aussie Falcon connection shared by you and Allan Moffat.
Wow I'm Aussie and I've never heard of this. Looks awesome!
its so cool! haha i had no idea about them either until about 2 weeks before this review lol
Can't wait to hear your opinion on this Aussie classic mate
1 word - EPIC!
@@RossReviewsau Yeah mate saw the upload. Nice sounding Tickford
Love the AU and this TE 50 is just Wow Wow and Wow ,great review Ross ,keep it up bud :)
it really is special :) glad you enjoyed it m8!
Another excellent video, Ross. I’m really enjoying getting introduced to some forgotten Aussie cars. Thanks again. 10/10
thanks Jack! its amazing some of these Aussie cars as they really were so good yet near on none of the world knows about them.. good to see you back at the channel m8
Another great review mate i just sold my gun metal grey AU series 111 TE50 replica with BA F6 typhoon rims couldn't afford a real one lol body kit worth more than car, only had 6 cyl but had flash tune with 290kw+, no saggy roof liner only service once, drove to Melbourne from toowoomba and back never missed a beat
thanks m8 glad you enjoyed the review.. would have loved to see that.. sounds like it was a mint car!
Great review!!! Mate been watching your videos for a while now, your video production and reviews are just getting better and better!
thank you man! i really do try and improve every video.. glad to see you guys are noticing! plenty more to come
These are ageing so well, unbelievable how people drove these down cliffs out of hate! They look sweet
they have aged like a fine wine! in love with this car eh
The reason the T series falcons with the Windsor engines had a zero tow capacity is because the used blocks from the US that had a lot of the strengthening material removed to reduce the weight of the block. On the test dyno's under heavy loads they would break the block. Also some of the first ones sold to customers managed to break the blocks when towing.
really cheers for the info m8.. always been curious for the reason
I had a work AUII, i ordered the bench seat option and could carry 6 people, it had a column shift auto and foot hand break, the car was geared high so had problems laying rubber. It was a good cruiser until someone hit me up the back at the lights, it saved me ;)
can't go wrong with one i reckon they just where great reliable cars back then.. nothing flash but all ya needed
Thanks Jon ..In an otherwise sickening bleak week of nothing but depressing news from all over the world this review put a smile on my face .. If I won Tattslotto tonight I'd do two things on Monday .. First thing is I'd organise the body shop to drop off my AU ll Futura for a full respray to factory standard and the second thing is I'd start the hunt for a TE or TS 50 immediately ...I LOVE THE TICKFORD AU's for the very reasons you mentioned..Thanks for indulging us with a great vid again .

dame straight m8! foot down n let it RUN! gotta dirve it how it was meant to be :)
Great review as always. Those were the glory days of aussie motoring. The AU wasn’t the best falcons to have ever come out but they sure made it up with the BA’s and so on 🤙
thank you m8! it really was the glory days... agreeed not the best falcon but man it is special :) really want one now haha!

Can't wait mate 👌
its a really cool car
You are one lucky bastard 👍it's rare to see one of them around. The own should swap the lights with the series 2 au xr. 😂😂 good on ya mate 💪
I thought i didnt like the AU styling until i seen this. Thats a great looking car, goes well to. Very cool car.
That Tickford T3 TE50 looks great
I had a 98 Fairmount Wagon with a 5 litre Windsor stroker caste Iron engine,it was Tickford enhanced as well, with the rims and body kit,Silver with tints, and lowered a touch. It could be heard 4 blocks away, had the deepest rumble and sweetest sound, gutted i sold it now,the new owner couldn't handle the power, and wrapped it around a power pole at 12am one morning,on a drugs mission.
thats epic mate.. yeh the windsor is something special def still has that more oldschool feet and sound to it :)
@@RossReviewsau It was a cammed V8,that's why it sounded so throaty.

Peak Aussie car manufacturing right here
So good the AU

One of the greatest Australian cars ever. Don't be surprised when we're all old and crusty that these will be fetching the same big $$ like the X series falcon of the 70's are today.
i can easily see these climbing in value big time.. they already have started! def one of the most interesting and cool falcons ive ever seen
The towing "ban" was lifted very early after production began and an insert was sent out to all owners to put in their manual.
really!? that would make sense hah seemed crazy that they were not allowed to tow anything
@@RossReviewsau Because the engine blocks cracked under extended heavy loads.
@@Binzy-jq2xq Sorry Bud , What a load of rubbish

they are a rare sight eh! love the T series AUs.. so cool

Just for clarification I am not a Holden or Ford guy I like my BMW's and Benz's and Mitsubishi's and I am quite impressed with this car bravo Tickford
yes its def the best looking AU i've ever seen! n with the Aussie 5.6 she goes well.. awesome car :)

i do believe they were made differently to the newer cars.. can 100% feel the difference..
@@RossReviewsau yeah that's the twin A arm rear end, and that's also why they don't want you to tow, plus that 0-5 weight engine oil , . That front grill and bumper should be sold aftermarket and fitted to EVERY AU
Agreed
TE = Tickford Energy.
TS = Tickford Supreme.
TL = Tickford Luxury.
But that was never documented by Tickford, only through very limited mention in the press.
FTE = Ford Tickford Experience, the branding for the exclusive dealer network that sold T-Series, Cougar and later the RHD converted Mustangs. (’experience’ related, mostly, to the owners visiting the factory while their car was being built, even lending a hand, but also having far greater say in tailoring the car’s option than ever before, a single technician assigned to their car which would be serviced in a special area of the workshop, concierge service on standby to book restaurants etc)
TVE = Tickford Vehicle Engineering.
@Adam Dalla-libera that's awesome, I've been hunting for that for years! I had it in my head that it was a unique cars article, probably didn't help. Thanks heaps, like I said, happy to be proven wrong!
