      Yes for sure, if I was given the opportunity to fix and restore any car of my choice, it would've been my dads old 1997 Mitsubishi Super Lancer (model was sold only in my country and was based on the same platform as the Lancer Evo 3) that he sold back in 2015.
      I grew up in that car and I would just love to have the car back and take it to school on the daily with a Spotify Car Thing installed and connected to the AUX and have it be my own little project to take to school and just keep stock.
      my dad told me that he sold the car because the 4G92 engine it has was starting to die of age and a new motor would've cost him the same as the entire car, so he sold it for a used 2010 Lancer.
      He isn't regretting selling the car but it hurts for him to see me so sad that I won't be able to drive the same car, according to a country document the car was taken off the road at the end of 2016 and was presumably crushed.
      Times are changing, but I also love the current Lancer he has.

    Quick note: The camshaft position sensor is less about the number of camshafts and more for the fuel injection.
    On more modern cars it also determines the spark time, although yours is waste spark and likely runs off the crank sensor.

    You’ve done well. The AU OHC isn’t as powerful or as reliable as the Barra, but it’s still a great motor and benefits from some 40 odd years of refinement. It’s actually an attractive car, it looks very nice in the white, and the interior is also pretty nice looking. I’ve just bought a BA ute as my new daily and even with a whopping 550k on the dial, it’s still a reliable car. One part I missed was the coolant you used, I can tell you from 30yrs experience in spare parts, and as a Ford enthusiast, correct coolant is absolutely critical. As you’re probably aware, they do have a bit of a problem blowing head gaskets and head corrosion, I would suggest using one of the cleaners but to follow the directions because you can cause gaskets to start leaking if it’s left in too long, and then after that, I’d put in some high quality coolant, like Nulon, and be sure to use the correct one specified, from memory it’s the green one. You probably also should do a brake system flush and replace with new fluids as it will break down over time, and again, replace with specified fluid (many people think that if the car recommends dot 3, using dot 4 is an upgrade and the new version of dot 3, however dot 4 causes rubbers to swell and leak if the car uses dot 3).
    Oh and also, it’s a Falcon S. S Pac finished in the X series, EA onwards they were designated just Falcon S and typically came with colour coded trim and in the E series, a red stripe. The AU appears to have the alloy wheels from the SR, and colour coded grille. Tasty car, and great job reviving a cool car.

      Isn't as reliable as the Barra my a$$, cabbies here had no issue putting a couple of million on the Intechs, yet to see that on a Barra (the dual OHC's usually get tired after a million)

    • @thesausage351
      @thesausage351 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Alabaster335 They’re a fine motor, but are more susceptible to blown head gaskets and warping heads then the Barra. Taxi drivers usually service their cars and look after them, where as general public often don’t use the correct coolants, or any coolant at all, and that soon leads to head corrosion and blown head gaskets. I have worked in spares for 30yrs, and in that time, I sold many VRS kits for the SOHC 3.9/4.0L Ford motor, many inlet gaskets for Barras, my Territory has had an inlet gasket replaced at 120k, but I’ve only sold 3 Barra head gaskets for race cars being rebuilt.

    Love the AU! Currently own a series 2 AU Falcon XR8 myself, it’s an awesome car. These things are generally pretty bulletproof too, so it sounds like this one had some poor maintenance over it’s life. Definitely worth fixing though. You can’t be a true Aussie until you’ve owned an AU Falcon.

    i have a mighty au falcon myself that had the same misfiring problem. the fix that worked for me was replacing the ignition leads and the spark plugs. they are such a wonderful car mechanically although they are quite ugly. definitely a good buy. you would also be better off replacing the bootlid with one that never had a rear spoiler as the rust is just going to come back soon. one issue with the series 2 au falcons is a lot of parts are different to the series 1 and series 3. little parts such as fuel filters are different. great video though and looking forward to a few more.

      I highly encourage it! As long as the engine or transmission isn't ruined, or the body isn't rusted away, go straight ahead! I will tell you though you will have some moments where you get angry as the problem isn't as easy as it seems like it was in this video, it took quite awhile in real time I'm sure for him to finally figure out why it would have that issue running after it warmed up, and you will have tricky situations like that if you do get into it especially since it is an old car and may have strange issues that aren't so straightforward. Very fun to fix up if you take the time and know what to look for.
