    Getting ready to go out again. I haven't been out for four years. I had just started hunting in Midwest Missouri when I had a stroke. Found a few pieces and one drill, then had a stroke. That was four years ago. Time to go back out 🤓. Really great advice. Thanks for sharing!

    Man out of all the hours, all the people rambling, all the same information... i think i took more from this one video. Ive been hunting my whole life and have found some amazing stuff due to being in the heart of the texas hill country but ive always chased knowledge almost more than the artifacts itself since its harder to come by. This is the first video of yours ive seen and im about to tune in. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge! God bless and keep them coming!

    Great info. I live in Northeast Georgia and we have springs everywhere. Not so much aquafers that push water to the surface but seep springs that slowly drain from hillsides and below ridge lines that meet together. Watershed areas. Much of the soil in NE GA is conducive to holding rain water as opposed to a gritty or sandy soil that drains quickly. This leads to springs seeping for multiple weeks even after no precipitation. Without fail there will be artifacts found around these springs. Due to hilly topography most native occupation sites will be found on the ridge above the spring. As you stated, anywhere where fresh water flows there will be artifacts around.

    Thank you for explaining about the mile out flat wake from the water! In ancient times rivers were wider than they are now so maybe hunting even further out makes sense if the land looks right. I just surface hunt, so I've never found a point but I do love my axes, hammer stones, ovate blades & scrapers.

    I use to hunt on a large farm that had two separate creeks. I truly learned a lot about artifact hunting at that place. You are spot on about the water. Find the water and act like if you were camping and getting ready to pitch a tent. That would be the first flat ground out of the flood plain. I think people that have attempted it and didn’t do well gave up to soon. The artifacts are their!

I'm a 60 year old boomer and lean and healthy and want to get back to the outdoors and find some of this stuff and I do have a great public spot that is way back in the middle of basically no where but right on a river !!!! I live in Maryland, I've been searching for sites for two years not every weekend but a good amount. My problem with creek hunting is the amount of different colored rock and. material. Lots of quartz around. I've located huge boulders of quartz. It could have been mined, don't know. But always thought that quartz was one of their last choices for material. I know about the water ways etc. I'm just a beginner as far as Native artifacts but I'm highly interested in them. I have been doing my studying and research. I have a real good spot but can't get permission to go. The property has changed hands I could have hunted it for 50 years, but was into metal detecting. It has a beautiful spring that goes into a creek and then 60-70 yards from the creek there's somewhat of a rock shelter. Then within a half mile is a river. But the flat land in-between has been developed. I try and i think on it all the time. Time will tell I guess. That was a good video, thank you for the information. Take care and Good Luck

    As a knapper do you ever take a found artifact that someone started but didn't finish and try to work it into something or do you consider that it was a reject . I'm also curious about why there are so many scattered arrow heads. Was there maybe a keg party where everyone in the tribe got together and knapped together or just one guy that did the knapping and traded his arrowheads for other goods. Like and old crippled man that couldn't hunt but was great at knapping.

      Think about it. Paleo people in the States have been here for at least 10,000 years and quite possibly longer. They used spear points and arrow points for hunting and over that many years a lot of points were lost. If one field was a good place to hunt there must have been a lot of spears and arrows going into the air. In deep and heavy grass or woods a lot of those projectiles were lost or broken and abandon. Let us guess and say one point was lost every year. That could be close to 10,000 points lost in that hunting ground alone. Hickbilly just told you where to look because if the natives needed water so does the game they relied upon for meat.

      I surface hunt behind stores & parking lots that have gulleys & hills behind them. Never found an arrowhead, but lots of other things, especially Paleo. If there's a parking lot that's being torn up, or a sidewalk, those are good places to look on Sundays when the construction crews aren't working. Last summer I found a nice axe mixed in with the decorative rocks while going through an Arby's drive thru. Another time, at the gas station right in front of the gas pump I noticed an unusual smooth black stone on the ground. Upon closer inspection it was incised to look like a bird. If you look at the ground wherever you are, you'll probably see lots of artifacts.

    The first point you show on your video, the pre-form. The notch on the edge. Why did native Americans do that?

    • @HickbillyOutdoorswithDWVerts
      @HickbillyOutdoorswithDWVerts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Generally, yes. There are public accesses sometimes, and then there are the right of ways (see my latest video). In Missouri, if it's designated as a "River" then it's public. I would definitely get with your local LEO's and find out the rules specific to where you live. Good luck.

      The rules vary from state to state. Some states don't allow taking anything from the shores of the river, but under the water of the river is fair game!
