    I have a pretty darn good collection from fifty plus years of hunting. People often say I'm lucky. Luck has nothing to do with it! Persistence is the key. If I had a nickel for every mile I've walked,I'd be a wealthy man. Went to a friend's after school when I was about eight and we crossed the road to hunt my great aunts garden where he had been finding points. I jumped the ditch and there on a little pedestal of dirt was my first point. Been hooked ever since. A bad day artifact hunting beats about anything I can think of. A good day is good medicine. I still get the shakes sometimes when I find something unusual or extra nice. The greatest feeling for me is when I take someone and they find something. Excellent video brother man! Thank you for the information and your time.

    You fellers put those points right back where you found them. They are all mine,every one of em! I just haven't gotten out that way to find them yet lol. " Hooked" "Addicted" what a great thing to become addicted to! I have found points driving down the road looking the banks after a rain. Oconee County South Carolina here. Thanks for your videos!

    I understand not digging up camps on public land, or land owned by the state/county. But when you pick something up out of a creek or river….you might be 50 yards from that camp….or 50 miles. No one’s ever going to know. How is that messing anything up? To me that’s saving a little bit of history.

    Get with me before you order a new string. I make my own. You may need to thing about dropping the poundage on your bow choice. Being 60 can make a difference in your own personal poundage of bows. A 45 pound bow will take an elk size animal with no problems.

    Take this for whatever it is worth. I am 78 years old, and have been shooting traditional since I was about 15 years old. If you are going to an anchor and hold while aiming, drop the bow weight back to maybe 50 pounds. You said you could handle 70 pounds, but that is too much weight to hold at anchor while trying to keep your bow arm steady.

  • @chriskourliourod1651
    @chriskourliourod1651 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hiya! I never could shoot purely instinctively, and an article I read about thirty years ago in which the Rev. Stacy Groscup described pointing the arrow saved my shooting. Here’s the general idea: When you point your finger at something, you don’t have to eyeball it to see if it’s truly pointing at the object. Point the arrow the same way, and that establishes elevation. Then smoothly draw to your anchor point and execute a smooth release if and when the windage looks good. You’re going to have to become familiar with distance estimation to know how high you have to point the arrow above your target at longer ranges. Using one of my bows as an example, I can point right on up to 20 yards; at 25, I have to point to a spot 6 inches high; at 30, it’s 13 inches (😁many groupings consistently landed just that low). Using an actual aiming method and practice will automatically tighten groups. I hope this helps, and good hunting to you! Oh, and use the average width of an animal to determine where to point at long range; with the above mentioned bow, half a deer above the back works in my area.

    • @chriskourliourod1651
      @chriskourliourod1651 หลายเดือนก่อน

    After trying various methods for consistency I can say without any doubt, orienting my broad heads straight up/down, drawing until the back of the blade touches my grip hand finger has been the solution. Hooking the string 1/2 inch below the nock puts me point on at 25. Top of the blade is point of impact at 15. Give it a try and good luck.

    I'm kinda in the same boat. No time to practice. So I went to an aiming method. I went to a homemade tape on sight. I know that is not popular but my shooting is so much better. Check out recurve sights at Lancaster Archery.

  • @jonbrown9490
    @jonbrown9490 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If you can hit a clay traget in the air, I wouldn't change your aiming method. I live and hunt out west for elk and mule deer and can tell you that you'd be waaay better off investing in your stalking skills, optics and fitness. You've got to be able to cover a lot of ground out here, I regularly hike 5+ miles per day with about 3000 ft of elevation gain and loss. There is certainly nothing wrong with an aiming method like gap shooting, but if you can't find the elk..then get close and are physically beat when you do get the shot, your whole shot process isn't really going to matter. It sounds like you're probably good out to 20-25 which is more than good enough to fill the freezer. The last mule deer I took was at 5 yards. I hope you have an awesome season and a ton of success! Thanks for sharing the video.

    I’m 62 been shooting archery all my life. Started out and shot instinctive for a long time, but didn’t get as good as I wanted until I started using an aiming method. Now much more accurate and more important more consistent. First advice is go three under and anchor higher. You need to bring the arrow closer into your sight picture. Longer/ heavier arrows help in that respect as well. Feel free to reach out to me for help if you want. There is a certain confidence you will have when using an aiming system, good luck!

    I always wanted to learn bow shooting. I`ve done very little of it. When I played around with it years ago I was fair for a beginner. Doubt I`ll get into it in my lifetime.What I am good at is pistol and rifle shooting. I`m pretty deadly with either one. I like to target shoot at all distances with my 22 range pistol. It``s cheap to shoot,quieter and easier on the hands. I think if you give a new method of shooting a chance you will do well. Let us know how it turns out. It looks like your doing well with losing weight. I`m trying and do pretty well unless I`m around my girlfriend. Later Dale!

When i started out it was the same expierence, steep learning curve but ohh so more enjoiable when that arrow connects. Started compound recently, i learned for myself, start reasonable, work on your form, dont overdo it. Archery should be enjoiable, not pressured or even painfull, maybe you should consider reducing the drawweight or your current Setup to accomodate for ones ailments. Get as you said yourself, in that clear state of mind. No shame in that, even the best hunters have to become elders at one point =). Im in my early 30s and dont dare to f with the elders =) Works for me , i do one shot, retrieve, pause, breathe, repeat, the results are insane close groups at up to 28 yards, even longer distances with my new compound bow, its like meditating. Keep shooting, aim true and watch that arrow fly =), may you take many game =).
