Your 30 in 30 gives us "non-ranchers" a sense on continuity to ranch life. Thanks for your commitment. I ordered your beef jerky a while back ... it taste great and was a lot more substantive (thick & chewy) than that purchased off the shelf at the Grocery store. With the shipping added ... a bit pricy, but I figured it was my way of contributing to Our Wyoming Life. I'm in for the full 30. John from Louisville.

I would love to see a new baby calf soon too!!
I heard about the calcium issues, any one who ever watched the "Incredible Dr. Pol" seen him handle these cases with an I.V.
I just did not know about the paste you have to help with that too!!
You just learn something every day!!
    Till your next one

Here in SD we do calf to cow matching tags. We don’t usually take anything but the calving book, tags, tagger, and some shots when we’re checking cows. Usually we bring any interesting looking cows/calves in, we usually calve not far from the barn which is nice.

I used to love this time of the year on our old ranch....spring was coming.....the air was different. The smell of a new, clean calf.....countless times we had calves in the house. Our Angus were a bit different than yours, apparently, because you never turned your back on mother cow if you grabbed her calf.....you were taking your life in your hands!! Nice set up you have there....we never had it so good. Brought many a calf to the house in front of me on the saddle with Mama trailing behind. Wish I was still doing it even if I'm old. P.S. That hat is much to clean/nice....it needs to be driven over with an old pickup, thrown down in the corral to distract a cow that's about to run over you, etc......let's get with it! P.S.#2 I remember one time a careless neighbor let his cows get into clover/alfalfa and was not home. Dad and I ran around with just pocket knives to 'stick' them and save the cows.....we ended up saving them all.

@@marshakrebs4348 The cows were bloated from the clover/alfalfa and there was so much gas in one region of their stomach that it was crushing their internal organs and affecting their breathing. Dad and I had to stick their thru their sides and let the bloat out to save their lives. The cows were already down on the ground, so they would have been goners if we'd not stabbed thru the stomach wall from outside and let the gas out. It is an act of desperation to save the life of the cow. Not a lot of fun...Dad quickly showed me how to find the spot to plunge in the knife and we hurried thru them. The cows healed up later....they all made it. Hope that helped.....Mike showed a tool for that very purpose but we did not have time to get ours....it would have been too late.

You should look into Z tags they are a one piece ear tag and they can be printed on or you can write on them and they have a special marker that won’t fade hardly at all, like you will find an old one that’s been in/on the ground no telling how long and you can still read it clear as day

Instant information and record keeping for life at the ranches. Adding pictures with branding too,an added bonus. Sorry just thinking out loud in the comments.

It's Springing and that means it's Severe WX Season.
This time of year, I'm urging everyone to sit down with the family and write a plan for Residence, Vehicles and Work/Recreation. Then get the things required for your kit. Then after you have it all together, run a Smoke Test to find the hickies that often show, and that's what ya want so you can work em out. Then when the residence Plan is set, go on to the next ones.
The above was for your Subs..to hopefully, if they're ever in a Severe WX emergency, they'll be able to possibly save lives
Mike here, has created the kit that works best for him.
Mike, I'm thinking ya need to go to The Shark's, get their money and market your Mikes Home On The Range Calving Kit! Build 3, the Basic, Intermediate, and the Excursion..
Ok... Time to shut this down. Tks y'all for letting me have that Word Fit. I truly hope it benefits folks.
    Take Care
    Stay SAFE

    Hi again MIKE
What a beautiful day you have today! Calves in no snow yay! Dry ground too! Hope it stays nice for you this year Mike.
Have to say this daily time with you has really been great. It's your everyday life with a little of this little of that mix of ranch life. For those that don't know it's realistic and authentic the way it is! And for those ranch folk they're able to see how someone else does something and might pick up a new tip or two. Not sure how long you'll continue after the 30 but hope you do take it through end of summer or fall or maybe two or three set days a week. Thinking this is a valuable addition to what you're already doing. Nothing like going around with you to see daily ranch life...
Thx as always Mike for sharing and you're welcome for the support. Been watching for a long time now actually long before I started commenting with you. I had to wait and see how genuine a rancher you really were and how honest too. Still here and still looking forward to all that is your Wyoming Ranch! Also very much enjoy Erin's part in the mix too. So out here still cheering you on from afar cause you're one of the good guys...
    Carcha tomorrow!

Looks like we have very similar strategies! I was surprised by your infrared camera, what a great tool. We don't have nearly the size of herd and on much smaller acreage during calving, so I can just walk the perimeter and look for problems. If I had to manage your size, I'm sure it's handy!

Hi Mike & Erin. I’ve watched for awhile and have never left a comment, until now! Mike, I know you are ‘pimping’ out the gator with some upgrades and I was wondering if you are going to recover your seat? I’m sure Erin would agree that you deserve a comfortable non-ripped seat. I thought it might be cool or odd... if you covered the seat with cow hide from your ranch. I have no idea of the cost or effort involved with tanning and reupholstering but thought it would be a unique nod to those cows who gave their everything to the ranch! :)

I cannot understand why anyone would ever give you a thumbs down. Your videos are great, clear, educational, informational and at times entertaining. Thanks for the editing and downloading efforts, they and you are appreciated.

Here in Europe (France) with calves you get 4 (2 per ear) independent tags for each calf and then you’ve got to log it in the computer for registration and then you get a passport for the calf, you have to do this because if you don’t and you get people controlling the farm, you can get HUGE fines, so you don’t have a lot of rules in the USA

I’ve dealt with several bloating cows. If you will stick them higher than you did closer to the back (stay away from the kidney) they won’t spill any of the contents of the gut but the air will escape.

The only thing that you might be able to use with your supplys would be a Mylar blanket. To wrap the calls in if there freezing. It would give them a jump start with the ride into t h e barn. You never know a few minutes may make a difference!

You are not suppose to ask that question! That is personal info to a rancher.

Lucky dog. I'm in northern Alberta and we are stuck in the middle of a three week winter storm. Enjoy your non winter conditions. My kids want to move to the states to be your neighbor and calve in march on dirt. They also want to stay in your house across the road this summer. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for another great vlog. I know it's time consuming and stressful to do 30 in30. You are imparting so much knowledge about your ranch life. We don't all do it the same so it's interesting to see how others take care of business.

I can't wait for the first calf. This morning I woke up to a post of my cousin pulling a calf and mama was partly in water today. Apparently she was stuck too. N. Western South Dakota is where they are.
    Loving these vlogs!!

Hey Mike what's that gun thing in your car for? I imagine it might be a tranquilizer maybe. It would be interesting to know

He seems to be more concerned about the cows than changing out the worn/dirty band-aid on his finger... Fun to watch, thanks!

Sky King - That dirty Band-Aid is a vaccination in sorts, isn’t it? 🤔🧐😎

On a workin man's hands...that band aid could look like that within an hour of putting it on.

Great video, Mike. I am taking your lead and building a calving kit. Better to have and not need than the other way. My calves due in May. Good luck.

If you do lose a cow during calving do you salvage the meat for personal use?
