    Thanks. Great video, you have a subscriber! How does the 28-300 fare with chromatic aberration? I noticed in the coast shot with the crucifix in it, there was a certain amount of fringing around the edges of the rock. Did you do any correction?

      Thanks for subscribing. There is a little chromatic aberration in certain situations. Seems to be a fact of digital life with most lenses these days. There's always compromises with lenses. No one lens is perfect on all counts. I tend not to correct for purple/green fringing. Most images these days are viewed on small screens and few people ever notice fringing.

    Are you using this FX lens with a DX camera? Also isn't this lens f3.5 - 5.6G (instead of 4.5)?

    • @Adventure8
      @Adventure8  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes you are correct f3.5-5.6. I mainly use this lens on my D500, FX lens on DX camera.

    Helpful review. I have the Z5, Z6, Z30 and Z50 bodies with FTZ adapter. This is an excellent lens for all-around use. Got this lens here in the Philippines, used, for only ₱15,000 ($265). Clean lens, no fungus, no dust, works well as intended. Using on a Rig Cage on tripod with Follow Focus and lens support since it's quite front heavy.
    BTW, subscribed as well. Because of this video review I was able to scoop up this great lens at an, astoundingly, bargain low used price. Thank you, Sir. ♥️👍

    Nice video, I have one rather tricky question:
    Imaging Resource in testing this lens found what has termed the “sombrero” effect:
    @ 28mm and ƒ/3.5, softness in the centre, sharpening up out towards the corners, and then some more corner softness.
    Have you ever experienced this? If not, would you care to check and comment?
    Also, what about zoom creep and lens hood stability?

    • @Adventure8
      @Adventure8  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No Sombrero effect on my lens at 28mm f3.5. Sharp in the middle and then becomes softer as you move to the edges and corners. There is a lock button to keep the lens at 28mm while in transit. When unlocked, the lens will extend under its own weight when held in a down position. No big deal for me. Hood fits well but little resistant to coming off if bumped. Again. I big deal for me.

      @@Adventure8 Many thanks for this reply!
      It is a typical Nikon “mid-tier” DSLR lens, then, as I expected.
      Probably a quality control/sample variation issue with Imaging Resource’s copy - back in the day [2011]!

    I prefer the nice images of the d500 (color, saturation,… they are more vibrant and film like)

    I just bought this lens for my z6ii and Ftz adapter ! It’s an AF-s lens and is compatible with the camera yet I can’t seem to get the eye tracking to work in Animal and human eye focus ? It seems to work in AF-S Just doesn’t seem like it works in Ad-c animal or human modes ? Any idea?

    • @Adventure8
      @Adventure8  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. I have the Z6, so no human or animal eye detect. I'll do another video when I get access to the Z6 II, Z7 II or the Z9. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    The raw images would be best for comparison, as the video can lose a lot of detail, especially depending on the video resolution you uploaded to TH-cam. Just a suggestion for the serious ones out here.

    • @Adventure8
      @Adventure8  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching. You are right, it's hard to see on TH-cam the true results. My normal process is to work with RAW files for the comparisons. Then I convert to JPG for the video and talk about my findings. Thanks for watching.

    On which body did you like it more D700 or D500

    • @Adventure8
      @Adventure8  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Most of the time the 28-300 lens sits on the D500. I love using my old AIS manual lenses on the D700 these days.

    Hi Peter. Would you tell us how this lens fares on a Nikon D850 please? Thanks for another great vid.

      it has been my walk-around lens on one of my D850's for YEARs!!! of course, on a battery grip and L-Bracket with a 910 on top, it scares lesser cameras into hiding! You will not regret acquiring this lens.

      Hi Peter, I found your video encouraging because I put my 28-300mm on my d500. I am testing with deers this weekend. I am going to South Africa and this Lens is my only option for my intended Safari wildlife drive. Thanks👍🏽

    I purchased that lens for use on a D850 and was extremely disappointed. I actually sent the lens, and later the camera body, to Nikon because the images were odd. They weren't soft or out of focus. It looked more like a resolution issue. I tried high shutter, low ISO, tripod, VR on/off, etc etc and nothing seemed to help. I had high hopes for that lens.

    I had mirrorless. Sold all Z cameras and kept the Fujifilm XS20 for travel. I purchased 2 DSLRs and a bunch of lenses again because I missed the shutter sound, and the viewfinder. All the old F gear is so cheap now.

    I use Nikkor 28-300mm lense with my Nikon D810. This is a all purpose lense for full frame. With crop sensor body like D500 it will be a good wildlife photography as 300mm will be 450mm for crop sensor but it will miss the wide angle.

    • @Adventure8
      @Adventure8  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True. The new 28-400 Z lens will a good equivalent for Z users.
