Nikon Z6 III - Tested in the Field for 6 Days

  • I have spent 6 days with the Nikon Z6III and this video covers the last 3 days of my testing period. The purpose has been to simply figure out if the camera is capable of delivering what I need for the type of work I am doing.
The reason why I am very excited about the Nikon Z6III is because it has a lower resolution sensor which could potentially mean better low light performance. It also has the flip screen which is worth a lot to me since I can then also use it for vlogging.
Last but not least, it has a fantastic viewfinder - the best I have ever looked through on any camera.
It has been a pleasure so far, and I am looking forward to trying a finished version with a final firmware. This is not a review in any way - just me using a new camera:)
    Enjoy watching.
    See you out there...
    All the best
    Morten

Sir, I'm only a few minutes in and already hooked (and liked :D ). Riding out to nature alone, camping and taking nice pictures is one of the best things I can imagine.
Sure, I don't have anywhere near the gear you have (my camera is an old Lumix FZ-82 bridge, I'm currently considering buying a Z50 (or even waiting for the Z50 II )), and sadly the country where I live, hunting is so poorly restricted, I would be in constant danger of being shot by "mistake". Still, this whole thing is so special, even more that you managed to make a living out of it, I can just congratulate to you.
I've never seen anything from you before, but I'm sure this will be a good 60 minutes :)

Regarding the low light: I'd think that, when viewing a Z9 image at 24mp, its low light performance would be pretty similar to the Z6 III? Ofcourse it gives up a small bit of ultimate low light performance and dynamic range with its tuning for fast readout speeds, but I'd imagine them to be close.

Since I recently watched a video about shooting glowworms - with a camera so good at low light - did you ever consider such an idea? For me the glowworms are a symbol of pure summer evenings. I think, I'll give it a try some day. My next project are plants, lichens and arthropods glowing in the beam of an uv-torch. Read about it in a book with experiments. Some of them, I'll use for my students.

Yes after looking at the footage I can definitely confirm. There is some strange blinking going on when image is starting to getting nosy at around 2000 and up to 6400. It starts again at around 12800. I hope it is something related to the firmware. I do not see that on the Z9.

Very nice video, thank you Morten! What a great landscape! At first my Z6ii will stay. I do not see big advantages for me personally if I switch to the Z6iii. But it seems to be a great step forward.

Thank you Morton for this great video and your thoughts on the new Z6III. I also owned a Z9 and sold yesterday my Z6II to change to the Z6III. Your experience are the best advice to buy a Z6III as backup, travel and low light camera. Your video are outstanding and I love it!

When I get home, my foot will be really clean :D. That's a perk of getting soaked I need to remember next time I need some motivational talk from myself :).
Lovely deer you found there. I had a very similar simple encounter the other day. That is motivational, too.
The Z6III seems to hold up wonderfully. Tnx for getting totally wet in the name of great photography!

What a video: new equipment tested in rough conditions, even when the camera is not yet released. That is a video from Morten. The camera can be lucky not being tested in a arctic trip by -45 °C. Thank you Morton to take us out in the field and show us the beauty of nature nearby. Best regards from Germany 🇩🇪

Brilliant Morton, just what I wanted to see! The best review out there so far, especially with the low light, I’m wanting a second body to go with my z9 as the z6ii doesn’t cut it for me!!

Hello Morten, although I'm not a Nikon photographer myself, I find all your videos, whether reviews or your nature videos, always entertaining, informative, and down-to-earth. No autofocus or other spec talk... Thank you for your work.

I am really happy with that lens. Great flexibility for wildlife and much nicer so take on a walk compared to the bigger lenses. As long as there is light enough, this is probably the lens I use the most.
