@yammienoob you should roll at 5 mph in first gear and keep getting it higher and higher. Once you feel uncomfortable tap the rear brake. Your rear brake is your best friend!
dude, you gotta check out delivery guys doing wheelies in Brasil, they will burn the plates in the street with your pizza in the back, just search "grau de motoboy"
Dude. Use the rear brake to stop yourself toppling backwards over the balance point. Deflate the rear tire right down to help get the hang of it. A bigger rear sprocket helps too, if you have one for the Grom, works better than a smaller front, for wheelies. Also standing up on the pegs when you pull it up helps. I used to do stunting in the 2000's on a SV650 and Speed Triple 955i
Yam, thank you my man. One of your best feeling videos on a while. Pure joy of riding. I was rooting for you super hard the whole vid. This even inspired me to get my ass up in NY in 40 degree weather and find a lot and get some practice seat time in. You’re the best Yam.

Watching you loop and NOT HITTING THE REAR BRAKE is driving me crazy. You need to lift front wheel then hit the brake to bring it right down. Do this over and over until you can hit the rear brake successfully over and over with out thinking about it. Edit also balance point is smaller on the smaller bikes so it is harder to hit balance point on the smaller bikes.
it's harder to hold balance point on small wheels, but the balance point is much lower, so its easier to get to it, harder to hold it, so better for learning, like learning how to wheelie a bmx before doing it on a big mountain bike
@@dxquinnno This man looped it so many times tho. when I was first learning to wheelied I looped my klx 140 once at like 2mph and crashed once on my sumo

I salute you for acknowledging it and buying a bike just to improve. For riders that are skilled like you, it only comes down to confidence. It's easier to learn when you're either young or kinda stupid. Keep going!
I've been riding for 49 years and I can't wheelie. Your video shows the why of why I can't. I've never had a bike I could loop, all my bikes have been pristine and I wouldn't take a chance of crashing it. I bought a 2009 KTM 690SMR to use it to learn to wheelie. Guess what It's in perfect condition and now I don't want to crash it. I guess I can live without that skill set.
Small piece of advice from a modestly skilled wheelie-ist that was in the same position a year or so ago. Drill popping it up and braking it down, until it's your emergency response to panic. Until you can start thinking about throttle control, or body english, and still hit the brake without thought. Then start to worry about distance, brake Finesse, dropping back. Drill the brake, over and over. It's boring, but it'll set you up for success, and you'll get to all the rest faster.
It's refreshing to see a humble and honest wheelie video. "Dropping the ego" as you say. Makes me want to refresh my old pit bike and work on my balance point instead of just chasing them out. 10 years riding... You are not alone brother. Cheers, from Australia
A lot of stunters take off the footbrake return spring. The grom with good pads and no spring has a crazy different feel to stock pads and spring. You can really feel it in your toe, lots more control without having to feel through the spring
A wheelie is not when you can pick it up and keep it there. It's also when you can put it down where you want under full control. That actually helps your confidence getting into the wheelie, so practice it all.
easier to stop the loop if you keep your feet on the pegs at all times, so you can tap that rear brake. Don't be afraid to fall back, that brake will save you every time when you get scared, don't jump off because it's a small bike, commit, and hit that brake. I wish I had a grom to practice. I use my FZ-07 and still chase for the most part. I can flirt with and hit BP, but I chicken out all the time and hit the brake. Great video, love watching the progress. You're getting better bro, you'll be killing it in no time.
I've ridden for 7 years and can only do baby wheelies myself. U gotta love when everyone screams for wheelies, and they dont really know how difficult they are.
I bought a beater Grom a few months ago for the same reason. I'm glad I'm not the only 30 something year old trying to learn to wheelie a mini bike! I also broke the rearset and had to do that annoying surgery. I also broke the frame because it had prexisting damage and had to take it apart and weld it together.
The grom is an amazing starting point but I think people underestimate how hard it is to keep the bike from floating left out right. I truly believe the only reason I’m able to keep wheelies straight is because I use to wheelie pedal bikes. I’ve heard a lot of people mention the grom but I never hear people talk about how well balancing on a pedal bike translates to motorcycle wheelies.
The faster you're going, the more stable the motorcycle becomes. That's why it's harder from a dead stop. And also, the faster you're going, the worse it's going to hurt and the more you're going to tear up the bike. Kudos for taking this on and best of luck! Yes, I also suck at wheelies, but I'm real good on theory.
If ya can’t wheelie from a dead stop/ slow in 1 st gear you’ve got no business wheeling any faster. If you can’t control the bike slow you’re not in control when it’s moving faster it’s just a false sense of control. Once ya can drop back / coast on engine brake and control your side to side balance is when I’d suggest moving to 2nd/3rd .He’s so far learning the right way/ to be in the most control. Most of us learned just how he is now looping and breaking our shit until we got good.

Its a little complicated but if u practice this way u will be doin wheelies lasting for whole minutes :)
I'm secretly a big chicken about alot, but grew up being pushed to do things that scared me to tears anyways and absolutely loving it in the end. The whole experience of riding a motorcycle specifically in traffic where we often grew up feeling safe in our parents metal box is an experience I would only expect a starfish to not react to with fear. He'd probably be scared, too, but starfish keep it all locked away inside and can't overcome their ego/fear. That's why starfish don't rip wheelies and share their journey with their community on TH-cam. In a world of starfish, be a Yammie the nooner noob. Love you pops!
Hey, most of the riders in the world can't do what you're and thanks for sharing man that's some good living. Now that's freedom, if you live in the US and you do not appreciate what you have got ... You are just crazy!!!!
It's also wayyyyy easier to hit balance point and ride it out in second. But then you have to master the bounce-scoot back- clutch pop and yank method 😂

agree on seat time and feeling! you will feel when that rear brake needs to be pressed. Try sliding your left foot on the floor when doing the stand still wheelies, especially if the floor is wet, its what helped me make the most progress! it will help you feel somewhat secure so your right foot doesn't just come off. I doubt you’ll see this but I tell people when they are where you are at now you know how to clutch up what you do is clutch up and hold the throttle at the one point no movement at all in your wrist and complete focus on pressing the rear brake to bring the bike down. I find this way for people quickly teaches them the brake brings it down then you can get lighter and lighter on the rear brake until you’re finally sitting at balance with just using the brake with no increase of revs

Mad respect for your honesty
Here in the Netherlands you can get a used old Grom for as low as €3000. I might try one
Yammie popping a wheelie on a kid's bike: this is so scary!
Yammie ripping 200 mph on an h2: meh
😂😂😂
It's coming man, well done for documenting it
I'm secretly a big chicken about alot, but grew up being pushed to do things that scared me to tears anyways and absolutely loving it in the end.
Mad respect bro! I’m actually on my grom stunt journey too lol I burnt my clutch the other day so I know how you feel buying parts
Grom durability Test, Part 1 🤣
Hey, most of the riders in the world can't do what you're and thanks for sharing man that's some good living. You can get a bike that you can abuse but most of all you can find developed infrastructure that you can have privacy on. Now that's freedom, if you live in the US and you do not appreciate what you have got ... You are just crazy!!!!
It's also wayyyyy easier to hit balance point and ride it out in second. But then you have to master the bounce-scoot back- clutch pop and yank method 😂
He isn’t ready for that yet, the timing with suspension and seat bounce+ clutch is tricky enough on a grom for someone who’s used to powpows 😂 gotta get that fb work down pat first
@saml7580 😂😂 i love how hard it is to wheelie a grom because it humbles everyone 👏
@@orangeGrom I love how much shit he’s talked on stunters in the past and now he’s completely humbled . Hopefully he’s realizing there’s actually allot of skill in just learning the absolute basics of it. Good on him though for actually learning the right way. If he had someone who knows how to stunt with him for a few hrs at the lot he’d progress so much faster
When you learn to wheelie might have to change your name to YammieBrah! 😂
😂😂😂
I used to wheelie for blocks, even went around corners on my old YZ80. Can't for the life of me do a decent one on my Husky SMR 450. Totally different.
This is the best video you’ve done in a long time
Love to see it Yammi, learning on a grom is fantastic!
Heck ya yam! I'm on the same hunt. I looped bad last year but I'm fixed up and ready for more this year!
Dude. Use the rear brake to stop yourself toppling backwards over the balance point. Deflate the rear tire right down to help get the hang of it.
All about it this new series.
Yes, I get it. That’s exactly how I started when I was 13 on my 81 Honda XL 100 and with much practice I got to wear, I could wheelie and shift gears at the same time. Keep up the good work yammienoob
ankle, knee, chest and back protection is what matters in a lot. and obviously always a helmet lol Awesome to see the progression, great video!
Hey, I've been following you since not long after your big crash. I truly love that you've been exploring so many different facets of motorcycling.
excited to see your journey Yam! Already improved so much in 7 days, lezzz goooo!
This was so great to watch. Looking forward to this series 🙏🏼 you got this yams.
I'm right there with you. This will be my third year riding, and my first full year with a DRZ. I feel like owning one of these bikes and not knowing how to wheelie is just unacceptable.
Hahaha it is! 😂 I miss my Grom so much
Finally a yam series I’m actually excited to watch!
that looks so fun. makes me want to buy a grom just to mess around on
You need one! 100% stupid fun bikes. I miss mine so much!
dude, once you get the hang of it, you are gonna be addicted I guarantee it!
This is probably my favorite video of yours, I like how much fun you're having😊
Man, freaking awesome video. I really enjoying watching you doing real stuff. And you motivate me and i commited to buy "i don't care if it breaks" to achieve same target.
Thanks for this joyful video!
Mks rearsets and 12bar will have you set for years to come
Damn, this put such a BIG smile on my face. Didn't know how much I was gonna enjoy it before watching!
This was an amazing video showing your progress, very inspiring! Looking at groms already 😂
💪💪💪
Most realistic learn to wheelie video ive seen, excited for the series!!
Yammie Noob you invented a new stunt term....(Pocket)
We gotta keep it in that POCKET!
Not me yelling and cheering Yam on🤣. I have the exact same conversations in my head when practicing new stuff. This was a great video🎉
12:55 is the best feeling a man can have on 2 wheels ❤😂😂 we are action movie stars in a child's eyes and we dam well owe them a cut scene haha
I loved my Grom. All the fun in a little package
I have several "hooligan" bikes and have been riding since I was 2. I can't wheelie, yet.
Good job YN! I like to see you get some exercise. Would have been cool to see a crash compilation at the end. Maybe use a tripod camera for different points of view.
agree on seat time and feeling! you will feel when that rear brake needs to be pressed. Try sliding your left foot on the floor when doing the stand still wheelies, especially if the floor is wet, its what helped me make the most progress! it will help you feel somewhat secure so your right foot doesn't just come off. You got this 💪
A used Grom (MSX) is about $400 here in Thailand.. I've been tempted to buy one for this reason for ages.. This might inspire me to pull the trigger and get one...
next video yammie gonna be doing 3rd gear clutch ups on the highway hitting redline coasters
Yessss keep this series coming!!
Let’s go!! I want a grom now
60% springs and lifter plate would be a great help, stock clutch is weak and inconsistent
Ayyy! Texas Mini GP is starting up in March. Love to see you there. You've already the 2 things that are most peoples barrier to entry. The gear, and the bike. >.>
I won't lie I think your content has fell off as it started to feel lazy
. But this is the first time in a fair while I actually enjoyed watching your whole video in a good while. I like this
I doubt you’ll see this but I tell people when they are where you are at now you know how to clutch up what you do is clutch up and hold the throttle at the one point no movement at all in your wrist and complete focus on pressing the rear brake to bring the bike down. I find this way for people quickly teaches them the brake brings it down then you can get lighter and lighter on the rear brake until you’re finally sitting at balance with just using the brake with no increase of revs
A dirt bike on grass is a good way to learn. Have fun.
