Every Day im studying drinks and look on youtube for reference, this channel always pops up. It Is a very reliable source of information, i absolutely love It!!!!
I have tried this cocktail with Hennessy vsop and added to my bar menu, it is just great. But I added 10ml simple syrup and 10ml lemon juice, which gave it smoother taste in my opinion.
Hello Kevin, thank you so much for introducing us to a new variety of historic cocktails and garnishing them for modern sensitivities too. Our palates just can never have enough of new flavor combinations to explore!
I freakin love this homemade orgeat!! Thanks for the bottle! Robi that was such a clever idea of listening to actual music dedicated to him while doing this cocktail. Awesome!
Glad you're enjoying it, let me know if you come up with any cocktail ideas! 🤩 And who ever thought polka would go so good with cocktail making? Great job behind the camera & editing, Sašo! 😎
I just barely discovered your channel... it is fantastic! Loved that the man behind the camera was like let me get in on this haha, thanks for such an awesome video
Loved working on this episode - cocktail I didn't know before, simple ingredients and interesting history. Tasting at the end was still the best part though 😋
Living in Wisconsin, there is plenty of Brandy to go around. I will have to give this one a try soon. Brandy Old Fansioneds are very common here. Cheers!
I really like the sound of this, and would love to see you do a Japanese inspired one! TH-cam recommended your channel to me today, I happily subscribed!
Thank you so much, Bradley, glad to have you onboard! I have something planned for that, waiting for the weather to cooperate a bit as well, so stay tuned!
I was recently able to obtain a bottle of the Bogart's bitters, and with the Jerry Thomas recipe for the Japanese cocktail right on the box, I was immediately reminded of this episode and had to try it the historical way. I have to say I really like the historical version. Stirring or shaking with citrus peals is a technique that seems to have disappeared from modern techniques. But after trying this cocktail, stirred with lemon peal (also reminded of the Deshler here, featured in Anders Erickson's channel), I feel like this is a technique that should still have its place in modern cocktails. This cocktail has shown to me that it's still a great way to get essential oils of citrus directly into a cocktail without the use of sour juices, or just on the nose with a spritz on top.
Your videos are so brilliant and so we’ll made. I’m so glad I discovered your channel! The attention to detail with music choice and Japanese knife, perfection 👌
Another terrific video, Kevin and team! I just looked up the Bogart's Bitters ... what an interesting history and story behind it and how Bitter Truth managed to recreate it, crazy. I'm definitely picking up a bottle of that.
Thanks, Josh! I really enjoy the respect shown by so many in the current cocktail renaissance to the origins of these classics and trying to find the information that was lost in time. It's not as strong in flavor as some of the bitters we know today, but it certainly has its place. If for nothing else, the beautiful bottle and the history behind it! Cheers, my friend!
unsure if its here to stay or just for this video but I do miss the old opening music more than this one. Video is still A1 though and at the end of the day I will watch!
Hello! I've not had this drink, but I have enjoyed the "Improved Japanese Cocktail." I build it with 2 oz PF Cognac, .75 Orgeat, .75. Lemon Juice, and 3 dashes Peychaud's. A very nice drink, indeed. (I've seen recipes that call for a different ratio, with 1 oz each of the Orgeat and Lemon Juice.) If you've tried it, please let us know. Cheers!
Thanks for the super informative video. My kinda vibe…drinking while a lil history lesson about the drink you’re drinking 🌚 btw this cocktail is really good. I think a lil lemon juice in it brings it together better
For the first time I've actually made this cocktail before at home and I wasn't impressed. I used Pierre Fernand and a store bought orgreat and it just didn't feel like it came together. I guess I'll try it again and see if my mind changes. When I made it I wanted to be good so I could add it to my drinks of choice list.
When I tried it first I wasn't too impressed either but with some balancing being made I think it's quite a tasty drink. I would still experiment with it a bit more to make it more crafty and appealing for the eyes. But I have to take some time and work on that.
I have been creating my own bitters using mostly home grown materials. I was reading the Orgeat recipes and would love to see yours. Wondering if the use of other nuts could impart a unique character. As for rose water I am also wondering if the addition of antique highly scented rose petals would work as well as rose water? Would the addition of Elderflowers be interesting? So many flavours to play with!
Some day I'll find the ingredients for Orgeat in Finland, (mostly the orange blossom water or what ever it is) so I get to try some of these drinks that look great. Or I just have to settle and buy monin's premade syrups, bet I can find orgeat from them, but where's the fun in that.
I'll keep that in mind, Daniele, thank you! Have you checked out my website, where you get a free ebook with two bitters recipes when you sign up to the newsletter? www.kevinkos.com
love The Japanese! and this approach of classic vs modern is great. Please consider the East India cocktail... literally the page after in Wondrich book 😅. The ratios are a bit strange and only person I saw do a video was Leandros educated barfly years ago. I feel like you can make something super interesting with those ingredients, so hopefully planting a seed ;)
I'm a big fan of orgeat but for a stirred cocktail, I would have clarify it. I don't really like how the sides of the glass looks. But great video as usual 😍
I don't know if this cocktail was made for this specific Japanese embassy, but the TH-cam channel Voices of the Past narrated the diary of one of the members of the first Japanese embassy to the United States, and it's a fantastic watch. Here's the TH-cam video's ID: /watch?v=IvPxCuIspWs Remarkably, the Japanese embassy reported almost no prejudice and happily remarked about how polite everyone was. It's an incredible story of gentlemanly attitudes and the peaceful interactions of peoples of two different worlds.
Such an interesting piece of history, thank you for the link! This was a fun episode to work on and we can only imagine if they really ever walked into Jerry Thomas' bar. Sharing a cocktail is still a great way to interact, no matter where you come from, right? Cheers!
I actually learned about this cocktail and the million dollar from watching anime. it wasnt my favorite especially because of the separation after a while but i'll have to try these specs
Japanese cocktail is probably my favorite non-sour drink. I'd be interested to see your orgeat recipe, especially if you think there's a big difference between starting with blanched almonds rather than almond milk. Still have yet to try the two side by side. Also, I've always had this as a shaken drink. Will have to give stirring a try! P.S. Leandro mentions this in his Japanese Cocktail video (and I'm sure Kevin is already aware of this too): the big ango bottle (the 473ml one) gives much larger dashes than the standard ango bottle (the 100ml one). He mentions that one dash with the big bottle is roughly equal to two dashes with the smaller bottle.
@@jeffreyim strange, I am 99% sure it was Kevin who made it.. maybe mixing it up with someone else, but don't think so.. maybe he has a new one uploaded soon or something, or maybe I am just already too drunk for a friday evening

Greetings from Canada. I’m a new subscriber - I immediately subscribed after coming across your videos for the first time. I just made your Gomme Syrup recipe so I would be delighted if you shared your orgeat recipe. Looking forward to more content. Cheers
I followed your recipe to the letter. Organic cane sugar, water, and Gum Arabic. And I used the precise amounts. I was surprised that it had a slight maple syrup taste but, as a Canadian, that was fine with me
