This is one of the best videos on cocktails out there. David Wondrich is the truth. I strive to make our videos as good as this. Amazing.

You can see when a bartender knows his job and when he doesn't. This guy knows what he's doing.

He's likely the preponderant drink scholar in the United States, if not the world. He DEFINITELY knows what he's doing.

He just wrote two books that are the history of the cocktail. He is just the living memory of the cocktail... I mean he is the Moses of the cocktails dure!!!

He understands the context behind the drink, but not how to bartend. Some bartenders you may have experienced, do not care for the context. But they sure as hell do not crush ice in their hands. Presentation, product quality and service is what they have mastered.
There are many bartenders, bar managers and mixologists, that can share with you the historical context while they pour you a cocktail. It is only that you have not been served by one.

I'm not a big drinker, but I find the history of it very interesting, and granted the only thing I know of David is this video, but you can tell that he studied the craft.

You must use an US issued card in Play Books. For a public domain book an US IP is ok, so you can download the non-enhanced version of the old bar guide just fine. In Play Movies&TV there is also a check on the region where your device was sold when play something. Allegedly you can root your device and overwrite that record. Maybe doing the device setup with the proxy is enough. I can report some success with a non US card in Play Music. The majority of songs requires an US card, though.

Doesn't the flame get rid of the alcohol and you are just left with a sugar drink? That's what chefs do in the kitchen to get rid of the alcohol and just let the flavors and the sugars come through.

I'm guessing you're talking about the Blue Blazer? You would put out the flame first. My approach would be to set the bottom of the silver mug on top of the glass and snuff it out.

no...im talking about the one with the cumbersome lemon in it.

randy wood this is actually a question I've had as well. I imagine that prior to drinking one presses the lemon below the rim of the glass?

The first written Brandy Crusta recipe was done by Jerry Thomas in 1862, and in that original recipe it was made with Bogart’s bitters, not Peychauds bitters, and he used Curaçao instead of Maraschino. So this guy doesn’t seem to know much about cocktail history.
The other thing he screwed up was saying Jerry Thomas originally used 2 tablespoons of sugar in the Sherry Cobbler, because they had a ‘sweet tooth’ back then. Utter nonsense, if you look at Jerry Thomas’s book he clearly said 1 tablespoon of sugar. If you decide to teach people maybe you should do your homework first.
