One important thing to remember about AJ is that she owns the rights to everything she sings. She refused to sign for a record deal through AGT and they relented and invited her to sing anyway. She began singing at 18 months and due to her grandmothers influence, she was drawn to and fell in love with jazz and blues music. She has been arranging most, if not all of her music performances since she was 8 years old. Currently in 2022 she still performs barefoot, sews her own clothes, (the cloth is designed by her grandmother) and she stands 6 feet tall at 15 yeats old! We all hope to enjoy her performances for many years to come. BTW I'm 80 and have been involved privately in music since age 7.

You can say she sings by instinct because I, along with other people, think she is an actual musical genius. Most good singers take many years to get really good, building on both natural talent and experience. Now, a 10-year old girl cannot count on much experience yet AJ nails that song like no one else before her.

Hey, O-Chan! Apologize to the hand-wringers for your opinions & language if you feel you must, but most people LOVE honesty! Angelina didn't just invent what she does from listening to a few songs. I believe that many echoes from the past converged on this wonderful little girl, and kinda like how a black hole sucks up everything & emits insane energy, that's Angelina. Keep bringing it! You were correct, she is 9 when this was recorded, many beliece she was 10. But that is not correct. But it doesn't matter, shd has a raw talent like no one else. Either she is 8 9 10 or 12, this shines through. I wonder how she will sound when sge is 20 25 30?
She us simply one if my favorite artists of all time. And they aren't many.
Sge us still such a young artist, and even though her strenght for sure is jazz and the liwer register, it is nice and natural for her to experiment with her voice and diffrent styles. And it is great that she showed recently that she gas great control if her uper register as well and thay her belting tones are insane.
She just made many people shut up about her only being able to sing great when it is a lower type of song.
I am sure she is gonna establish her style more when she grows older.
But it's nice that she experiment and take us along on her journey along with her.

Actually, she does this song way, way better just a year later, and live. That’s the sign of a prodigy, they get better at an exponential rate. And yes, I’ve heard her mess up before too. But like a seasoned professional at such a young age, she puts it behind her and gets back on page. Then she never makes that mistake again. But ignore the idiots that yell at you for pointing it out. They are too infatuated to see a flaw, ever. Even though I guarantee you that Angelina herself knows exactly when she messed up every time. And then fixes that. Remember how young she is also. I’ve seen her last three performances available, all on AGT, and she probably isn’t going to mess up again. At 14, she’s already a veteran now.
Thank you for your reaction and for your comments. She is extremely talented, but in some of the covers she do struggles a little with her technique I think. Two examples, in my opinion, are "The show must go on" and "I have nothing". These are songs, sung to perfection, by two of the most brilliant vocalists the world have ever experienced and of course, difficult to follow.... but she will get there. Angelina is so good that you almost expect brilliance every time, but she still has a lot of learning to do within the musical world.

I knew you would love this one based on how you reacted to her "gloomy sunday" voice. She can do so many different things with her voice. On the subject of her "growl"... Having watched most (really all) of her stuff, I haven't really seen her do that in other stuff like she did in this.... I have a theory that she was maybe advised to not do that until her vocal chords have matured to avoid doing permanent damage. (this is just a theory, I have no knowledge in this area). Maybe someone who knows this stuff could weigh in here... But she obviously knows how to do it and how to control it, and I don't think that's something you can lose. I have a feeling that she is just holding that card in her back pocket until she gets a green light from her coaches/advisers, so I bet we will see that come back strong at some point.
yes, you are right. just saw this post 2 years later and there is a speech therapist who breaks this down very well recently because of the chin tuck she has to do for low notes and warns about stressing the larynx.

Blues has tones that don't "agree" with our "do re mi" brain implants we have all all grown up with. Blues is just a different language. And Angelina simply hears this language more than understand it.
BB King heard blues much better than he could explain the theory.

Its okay if you notice some things that are off a bit...she is coming into maturity and so will her voice...I think one thing that might cause a few bumps is her accent and not really knowing where the English words flows in the song..I hear some of them mispronounced or said wrong..but you know what? I am like you ..I know she can sing...and she is amazing even if she is off a bit...it will only get better...as we see at thirteen she has matured ...this song...at nine will always be my favorite ever of the song...She is so into it..feeling it and just not struggling at all...wow...

Wonderful reaction. Someone will always find flaws. Try not to take it personally. I have not heard her sing another song with this extreme guttural quality. But she sings a number of songs in her low register. Just beautiful.

I'm not arguing against you, I like both renditions and I suggested the one from 2018 mostly because it's a more recent performance, but also because it has a little better sound quality and I personally like that orchestral setting better. NO SHADOW on Forsvarets Stabsmusikkorps - they are great, but I prefer the simple piano, drums, guitar & bass - it has more blues to it

I am sorry that you misconstrued my words regarding Angelina. Diamond in the rough were my own words , not yours and I only meant it in the most complimentary way. She IS amazing and I only meant to say, can you imagine what she will be like as she grows older and more confident! If you are basing your reluctance to honestly critique these artists on anything I have said , please forgive me as it wasn't my intention! There is an interview video of Angelina, some friends,her sister and her mom , taken at an amusement park and on the ride to record this song where she states that she is ten at the time! So, as far as her age at the time I will take her word for it! This song was written in 1956 by Screamin Jay Hawkins and I, for one believe that he was hearing this version In his head when he wrote it! Now on to her music, she did a cover of Etta James , Everytime We Say Goodbye shortly after this one and if you put the two videos side by side you can really see her range and diversity, once again at 10 years old ,just amazing! I think it is way more refined than the original by Screamin' Jay Hawkins :-). I think maybe they've been worried that growling and screaming will damage her voice when she is so young (but I don't know). Another great reaction. Again I appreciate your honest reactions. Don't change for the trolls. Everyone hears the couple offbeat things in that one performance, but some can't admit that there could possibly be anything wrong with their favorite singer. I am a HUGE fan of Angelina, but I also know she is only 13 now and is going to have a minor issue here and there. Her (very slight) imperfections are actually one of the things I like about her. To me it makes her more real. There's nothing interesting in "perfection".
As for suggestions for more... There are so many great performances on her cover channel, you are not going to run out of videos to react to anytime soon. They are all amazing in their own way. "Stay" and "A Million Years Ago" seem to be a couple of the favorites for some (besides the ones you have already done).

@@OxyChan Out of curiosity, do you not get overly sensitive fans with other artists too? You probably don't need to worry about making Angelina herself feel bad with any criticism. Even if she does happen to hear it, I'm sure being "in the business" since 7, she has built up plenty of armor to critiques. And really you won't come across very many things that you don't like when it comes to her anyway. I can only think of a couple times when you mentioned any issues (and you were completely accurate every time). Some fans are just too sensitive about their favorite artist.
But anyway I enjoy all your other reactions too, so if you choose not to do more Angelina I totally understand. I could just tell you really liked her and then just stopped reacting to her with this one, so I was curious what happened.

"I Put a Spell on You" is, IMO, her masterpiece so far. Over the las two years I have watched and listened to like 24 different interpretations, including Hawkins original version, and so far I still have to find an interpretation that beats Angelina's "Spell". It' so extraordinary! As I said, a masterpiece (and lets also thank Per Heimly for the great video in B&W)
Now, if you want to enjoy something very close to this level, you have to listen (I write 'listen' because it has no video, just a fixed image) to the studio recording of "It's a Man's World", with the same band from the Norwegian Armed Forces that she does the outdoor concerts in the summer of 2018.
Sure it's fun, and it's emotional, to watch her concert video, finally, we love to see her singing, but there is a BIG difference in quality, and her voice reveals naunces and intricacies that are not detectable on the outdoor concert video. The song belongs to the It's Magic (EP and CD published 2018) record. In this collection there is also a breathtaking interpretation of "I'm a Fool to Want You" that you MUST hear.

This is only an example of what she can do, but it is not good for a child to use their voice like this to much unless they want to destroy it. So i do not think we will see much like this until she is grown up.

Perhaps the word related to "gutteral" you were looking for is "primal". Angelina seems to have been born with the ability to recognize, distill the essence of, connect to, and musically express mature human emotions at their most fundamental/primitive/primal level. Part of her genius is relating the essence of an adult's emotional experience to the same essence of emotion she's already experienced in a different context. For example, Angelina hasn't yet been in an adult relationship involving unrequited love, but she can relate to her own experience to date of her mom being disinterested and against something she passionately wants...I hope that I'm being clear.
I think the word guttural was ok if she was referring to the growling, the lower tones and "angry" voice that she uses frequently in that song. It is a vocal term that gets used a lot with a specific (though somewhat hazy, I think) meaning.
