I always love your Angelina reactions and analysis. As a professional, you hear things that many others miss, and you explain things very well. You mentioned that Angelina must have grown up listening to a lot of Jazz. Angelina's mother has said that Angelina would spend hours listening to Jazz on youtube with her tablet (from a very young age of 2-3 yrs old). For all the negative effects today of children spending hours on their tablets and phone, I think this is a really great example of how that technology has done something really positive for a kid. If she were born in a different time, it would have had to be like you said... her parents or family would have to have had a big collection of jazz records, or taken her to lots of shows to get the amount of exposure she had. Now, any kid can discover a passion, and find endless resources to study right at their fingertips. I agree with you about Simon... not a big fan of her getting tangled up with him. However, in an interview when she was very young (7 I think) Angelina said that 2 of her dreams were to sing at a Nobel Prize Ceremony, and to sing for Simone Cowell. She achieved the first dream at only 8. I am hopeful that the AGT thing is mostly a move to fulfill the second dream.... and that she is still planning to stay off the record labels for a few more years. There are rumors that she has made a new album of original, but I have not heard if it is another independent release (like her last one) or not. Just a theory, but appearing on AGT is a pretty good way to promote a new release. (especially if it's an independent release). @ She has done small summer "tours" (2-3 shows) in norway for the last few years. It would be nice if she did some US dates, but I personally think she might still be a little young for a US tour. She has plenty of time for that. No need to rush it. .... also, I think there are issues with her "working" in the US before she is 15 (Since she is not a US citizen). Yes indeed we have snow. Actually is it snowing right now here in Oslo - the home city of Angelina. It is interesting to listen to someone who knows a thing or two about singing. Angie is music. There's only 1 word that everyone seems to use to describe her. "WOW!!!" There's video of her singing a Whitney Huston song when she was 1 1/2.
Valerie, I really enjoy your analyses, they are well thought out & spot on. Angelina has always been in charge of her music from her explorations of youtube videos. She discovered jazz around 2 or 3 & listened to it over & over again. In interviews, her mother, Sara Astar, has said neither she nor her husband have any background in music, they just support her interests. Her grandmother is an artist (Painting) who loves jazz but is not a singer. When visiting, she would always take Angelina to the jazz section of record stores in Oslo, at Angelina's request. Her mom says she is the one that hits the brakes in Angelina's career & turns down 90% of their offers. It was Angelina that thought she was ready for Norway's Got Talent at 5 & 6, but Mom said no, both times & she was right. Finally at 7, Mom said OK you're ready & she was right again since she went on to win it at 8. If you watch hours & hours of behind the scenes rehearsals, as I have, you will see she is totally in charge of the adult musicians she works with as early as 8 or 9. When her parents said no to offers from several record labels & Disney Studios, I can't help but believe she was OK with that decision in order to maintain full control over her music. She is experimenting with different genre, honing her voice, going to school & being a kid, for now. We'll see what happens after AGT Champions next month & after she releases a second album in the near future. Buckle up!!!!

Valerie, I'm glad this video came out of the moth balls for the Christmas Holiday. Everything you have stated here is still relevant today in 2020. And, so far, I believe Angelina and her family are basically being very careful with her. When she signed with Republic Records I'm sure one of the most important things discussed and agreed to was for Republic not to interfere with her creativity. And, I believe Republic and Angelina will choose their tour locations very wisely and space them in time. She is very special, we all know that, and Republic does, too.

I too like your perspective and thoughtful reactions to Angelina. Child protegees are great as a child because they are accomplishing things they shouldn't be able to as a child. They get use to the hype. Everything changes once they have fully grown. Expectations have changed. They need to constantly keep raising the bar. Some will burnout before they have reached their full potential. The same will happen with Angelina. I think it happens to all of us. It's all fun for her right now, which is great, but it will eventually become a grind like everything else. As long as she maintains control and has a great support system she will be able to smooth out the peaks and valleys of a life as a world renowned artist.

Mozart was also a very young child when his father drug him from kings, princesses and to every head of state he could get his son in front of. His father made a lot of money for himself. But luckily for us, he didn't suffer from burn out, his fire for music was to strong. But I do understand it is happening to these kids today, probably the burn out happens quicker today because of the all the media, internet and so on.

Thanks again, Valerie, for a very insightful reaction to Angelina. I'm confident her mother and grandmother share your philosophy about Angelina's career, but I doubt that they have your understanding as a professional of the dangers of child stardom. I would imagine that Angelina is hungry for more widespread success, and that she would like broader exposure. That's probably how she ended up accepting the offer to be on AGT Champions 2. I have mixed feelings about her being on that show. The format is terrible (IMO), as the public is not allowed to vote for the acts. The entire show was filmed in about a week in October, so there are no live performances. This is all about MONEY for NBC and the Simon Cowell machine. They are able to fill the mostly dead month of January with a big money maker. The only live show will be the last one when they announce the winner. And she was competing with flying monkeys, acrobats, choirs, dancing dogs, (I'm exaggerating), and several other singer. I would imagine that the people (50---one representing each state) they have selected to cast the ballots have little understanding of what an exceptional talent Angelina is. And they are making their judgments partially on whether or not the act would be good in Vegas. So I do not see Angelina having much of a chance to win this competition. But maybe that not a bad thing. By the way. I believe Angelina was 10 in this "White Christmas" performance. I assure you that her voice has become even better as she has aged. She will be 14 in about three weeks (01/10/2020). She have covered over 100 songs, and I love ever one of them. And it's very difficult to pick a favorite because she morphs into a somewhat different artist to fit the song she is singing. And her ability to do that and make the song her own (very often better than the original) is a little eerie. But I'm sending you a few that represent how she shocks us with her performances. I've listened to a lot of covers of this song, but none as good as this (IMO). She's changed the tempo, and it's hard to believe a 12 year old girl can set at the piano (she's playing) and deliver this depth of emotion. See does that on a lot of her songs, but none as much as "Wicked Games". Had me crying by the third line. It was posted in Sept. of 2017, which would make her 11. Angie is music. There's only 1 word that everyone seems to use to describe her. "WOW!!!" There's video of her singing a Whitney Huston song when she was 1 1/2.
Valerie, I really enjoy your analyses, they are well thought out & spot on. Angelina has always been in charge of her music from her explorations of youtube videos. She discovered jazz around 2 or 3 & listened to it over & over again. In interviews, her mother, Sara Astar, has said neither she nor her husband have any background in music, they just support her interests. Her grandmother is an artist (Painting) who loves jazz but is not a singer. When visiting, she would always take Angelina to the jazz section of record stores in Oslo, at Angelina's request. Her mom says she is the one that hits the brakes in Angelina's career & turns down 90% of their offers. It was Angelina that thought she was ready for Norway's Got Talent at 5 & 6, but Mom said no, both times & she was right. Finally at 7, Mom said OK you're ready & she was right again since she went on to win it at 8. If you watch hours & hours of behind the scenes rehearsals, as I have, you will see she is totally in charge of the adult musicians she works with as early as 8 or 9. When her parents said no to offers from several record labels & Disney Studios, I can't help but believe she was OK with that decision in order to maintain full control over her music. She is experimenting with different genre, honing her voice, going to school & being a kid, for now. We'll see what happens after AGT Champions next month & after she releases a second album in the near future. Buckle up!!!!

We shouldn't miss that Angelina is channeling Ella Fitzgerald here every bit as much as she was channeling Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and others earlier on. And now at just fourteen, and like a beautiful butterfly, she's shedding them all, all her previous influences, and emerging this brightest of winged creatures set to mesmerizing us. Valerie, I'm glad this video came out of the moth balls for the Christmas Holiday. Everything you have stated here is still relevant today in 2020. And, so far, I believe Angelina and her family are basically being very careful with her. When she signed with Republic Records I'm sure one of the most important things discussed and agreed to was for Republic not to interfere with her creativity. And, I believe Republic and Angelina will choose their tour locations very wisely and space them in time. She is very special, we all know that, and Republic does, too.

Thank you for a very comprehensive review of Angelina's performance, and your appreciation of the care that her parents are taking to nurture Angelina's career. It is evident, too, that Angelina is mature and wise enough to accept that the path they have laid out for her is the correct one.
I subscribe to nearly 80 persons who, from time to time, react to Angelina's performances. Very few of them write negatively about her but only you and a handful of others have the musical knowledge to be authoritative in their opinions of why Angelina ticks all the boxes to become very, very successful in her career.
Please forgive me for my one critical comment. I find it very disappointing that you are giving so little time to Angelina. I do realise that there are many, many other singers and performers out there who are worthy of giving attention to but, being an utterly selfish old man, I would like more from you. Not only I but Angelina's many thousands of fans would visit your channel to see what opinion you had on their favourite singer's performance.
You asked for suggestions. I too like your perspective and thoughtful reactions to Angelina. Child protegees are great as a child because they are accomplishing things they shouldn't be able to as a child. They get use to the hype. Everything changes once they have fully grown. Expectations have changed. They need to constantly keep raising the bar. Some will burnout before they have reached their full potential. The same will happen with Angelina. I think it happens to all of us. It's all fun for her right now, which is great, but it will eventually become a grind like everything else. As long as she maintains control and has a great support system she will be able to smooth out the peaks and valleys of a life as a world renowned artist.

But luckily for us, he didn't suffer from burn out, his fire for music was to strong. I'm confident her mother and grandmother share your philosophy about Angelina's career, but I doubt that they have your understanding as a professional of the dangers of child stardom. I would imagine that Angelina is hungry for more widespread success, and that she would like broader exposure. That's probably how she ended up accepting the offer to be on AGT Champions 2. I have mixed feelings about her being on that show. The format is terrible (IMO), as the public is not allowed to vote for the acts. The entire show was filmed in about a week in October, so there are no live performances. This is all about MONEY for NBC and the Simon Cowell machine. They are able to fill the mostly dead month of January with a big money maker. The only live show will be the last one when they announce the winner. And she was competing with flying monkeys, acrobats, choirs, dancing dogs, (I'm exaggerating), and several other singer. I would imagine that the people (50---one representing each state) they have selected to cast the ballots have little understanding of what an exceptional talent Angelina is. And they are making their judgments partially on whether or not the act would be good in Vegas. So I do not see Angelina having much of a chance to win this competition. But maybe that not a bad thing. By the way. I believe Angelina was 10 in this "White Christmas" performance. I assure you that her voice has become even better as she has aged. She will be 14 in about three weeks (01/10/2020). She have covered over 100 songs, and I love ever one of them. And it's very difficult to pick a favorite because she morphs into a somewhat different artist to fit the song she is singing. And her ability to do that and make the song her own (very often better than the original) is a little eerie. But I'm sending you a few that represent how she shocks us with her performances. I've listened to a lot of covers of this song, but none as good as this (IMO). She's changed the tempo, and it's hard to believe a 12 year old girl can set at the piano (she's playing) and deliver this depth of emotion.
