Allow me to recommend Liqui Molly oil treatment. I use it in my 05 tahoe. Along with 10w20 synthetic oil. I have 150k miles on it and topically this vortec engines tik and rattle at start up. But after doing two motor flushes and replacing two quarts of oil with the motor flush and letting it idle for about 10 minutes the engine runs extremely quite. After the 10 minute idle time I flush everything out use fresh oil and filter and added two of those liquid molly bottles. It did wonders for my truck. Hope it can help your friend. As far as his truck is concerned I do agree that it's been an improvement. Perhaps if you repeat that cycle a few more time your fix could be permanent. Additionally I did my treatment on my daughter's 2011 Hyundai elantra and it my a significant improvement on hers as well.

Nicely done. I suspect lots of F150 owners will be dropping in to see what this is all about. 👍

Many people have said with cars at least . When they switched to Pennzoil Platinum / Ultra Platinum oil , their engines were much quieter . And being made from natural gas , said to not have the residue from the usual sources .

Walmart now has a pre-drain treatment put out by Valvoline called Top Treat. It is intended for professional use, i.e. Auto Service businesses, and is also is added prior to dropping the oil and filter. Add to engine oil, run engine around 10 minutes, then change oil and filter. The oil is noticeably darker and the new oil looks very clean after refilling the oil. The treatment isn't a petroleum/solvent product but what it is isn't listed in the product literature.
Personally, I'm a Walmart Auto Care tech, so I've used this product on vehicles. I'm not aware of any really bad issues with engine noise on startup that were fixed by this, customers usually don't come to Walmart for mechanical issues, we don't deal with repairing engines. If a noise is present, the engine comes to us warm already, so unless it's extremely noisy on startup when warm, we're usually not aware of such an incident being present.
Does it work, yes it does appear to be pulling more sludge and dirt out with the use. Is it good for the engine, I guess we'll find out over time.

Danny, I was not aware of that product or its use at Walmart. Your description does make it sound like it is affective against sludge. It appears the F-150 clattering is not sludge related. Thanks for watching.

@@IsItTrueThat A lot of these kind of issues don't turn up until after several years of use by the customer. Modern oils are supposed to provide sufficient protection against sludge and buildup being they contain higher levels of detergent, but evidently even that along with regular servicing can't always prevent every issue from happening.
I've never owned a brand new vehicle, and my current "newest" vehicle is a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan with the 3.3L engine, so I'm learning the issues with that vehicle. I've worked on many of them, and the pre-Fiat vehicles do seem to be much better than the current crop of Chrysler offerings are. But they do have their little issues as I'm finding. But we bought it this past July, and only paid $1000.00 for the van and it had 129,000 miles so I'm considering it a win even with the work I'm having to do with it.

I have found that synthetic oil and changing oil every 6 months or 5000 miles which ever comes first goes a long way. ATF/Gear Lube every 2 year or 24,000 miles which ever comes first! I think most people wait to long to use "magic elixirs" maybe adding this to routine maintenance every 2 years on anything with VVT and Turbo Charger's might be a thing in the future since oil consumption and VVT issues are getting more and more common across all brands!

I think you are correct. In this case he strictly followed Ford guidelines for oil changes and the problem still occurred. Just this month (about 15 months after this video) he had to replace the engine. The only flaw likely was in the type of oil used when the oil was regularly changed. Using your guidelines, especially with quality oil, might prevent premature wear on a new vehicle.

This shouldn't happen if you never let your oil turn dark. I change my oil every 3000 miles 200,000 miles runs like new. I do put seafoam in my gas and oil every 4th oil change . Maybe doing this collectively with on time oil changes has been suffice. Thanks

My friend is reporting that at times the clacking is going away. He will keep a log. Agreed, seeing how long it lasts is really the key. Anxious to try a second dosing as well. Appreciate the comment.
