I bought the Fire 10 last year and use it almost exclusively for reading e-books or watching the occasional movie (from a flash drive). It's great value and the only drawback is having to sideload a lot of apps, since it doesn't allow access to Google's Playstore.
I recently got the Fire HD 10 plus with ad removal haven’t gotten a chance to use it much though. I did however listen to some audiobooks, watched TH-cam, and tried some ebooks and alternative reading sites. So far so good. Grew up with the first gen kindle!

The Fire HD is so underrated. i have a 10 Plus and want to upgrade to the 11 because you can't get the new version of Fire OS without upgrading. They're just so handy, whether we're talking about the 10 or the Max. You don't need a gaming laptop to have a web browser, an Office document, and Facebook all open at the same time. I use AndrOffice, an Android port of LibreOffice. If you add a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, you have a throwdown laptop perfect for basic office or school work. It's not the best or the fastest, but it's the cheapest way to get going with something fairly modern.

If the tablets are like the Kindles then it’s pretty easy to pay a tenner and remove the ads after you’ve bought the tablet? My Kindle has ads but they don’t bother me as it’s only ads for a book and only on the lock screen.
@@ToddJumper You can, very easily. Fire OS is just modified Android. Getting the Google Play Store to work is as easy as downloading some APK files and installing them.
The ads aren’t bad. Once you turn it on you have one ad on the Lock Screen. Then just swipe and you are on the Home Screen. I don’t know why people loose their mind over it. 🙄 You can side load the Google Play store. I have it on mine. Simple and you can learn how on TH-cam.

For the cost it takes, I think it could be a good option for students as well as official users. Uses a smart Mediatek chip and has good battery power as well.
I searched the internet about this particular MediaTek chipset but I didn't get any relevant information about it. I still think it's gonna perform well and compete at least with the Galaxy Tab A8. If that's the case, I'd be glad

I side load google and 90% of the play store apps worked. I had problems with google maps but the tablet was only a spare so weren’t too bothered. Used for books and movies
Cheers , just about to order one today. Dropping in at £139.99 on Prime Members Day UK. I use an old Fire 10 HD which doesn't support Netflix and is painfully slow, so its a no brainer as I use every day. Great for connecting to Desktop PC using Splashtop app. Toodles ! :)
Ads will slow down the system as it has background tasks to be doing. Also ads aren't very kind to your data so if you have a data limit and you set up a hotspot, they'll chew your data like a child that keeps eating even though they're already full. So yeah, get the ad free version if possible.
Who else has noticed this is the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 3 with Amazon's own branding and UI over the Chrome OS platform??? Do check it out, but they really are the same. The IdeaPad Duet 3 is a bit cheaper though at the moment, since it already includes the keyboard, while the Fire Max 11 sells it separately. Remember, Amazon is all about pulling the wool over your eyes, even when they have their prime day deals.

I'm looking for something for the kitchen to play music from an SD card and stream to an amazon echo (1st gen) speaker. Does this take ages to boot up? Would it connect to the echo via bluetooth and auto-connect to it next time?

Doesn't have enough ram though needs 6GB in 2023 otherwise it will continue to lock up just like my Fire HD 10 does it's only worth considering it's reduced to £99 or less sadly.

I have Fire 10 HD with AD's and have to say they are no intrusive. I hardly notice them. So personally it is not worth a tenner to get them removed. Though I know I have been able previously to just get them removed for nothing if you give them a ring. I might have considered this one if I did not already have the Fire HD 10.
I hope it's better than fire tablet 8 inch. I bought a few of those last year and the battery only lasts about an hour or so. They declined tremendously. My fire tablet 10 on the other hand has a great battery. I don't know why I would need this one over the 10.? not much different that I could see

Might be worth it IF it was on special offer at $99 / £99 given its size but otherwise at its advertised price it is a hard “no”. On the apps store, it is a weakeness unless Google Apps can be loaded via the usual hack on Amazon tablets. I have had problems with headphone / earbud apps working though on Amazon tablets.
@@Teelsambal you cant touch it at the price in the states, dunno if it's different elsewhere. the galaxy s6 light or whatever is like half as powerful vs this new updated chipset in the fire max (and it usually costs 330, though i think i saw it on sale last week for 249). nothing much else full size under 300. but yes sale is where these tablets shine. the old fire hd 10 was 149 but went on sale as low as 75. 149 sale price should be a given for this one, but i'll be fascinated to see if it goes any lower.
Nice rewiew, but I wsihed you'd have spent some more time of performance aspect of the tablet; my issue with Fire tablets has always been their performance, particulary as it relates to surfing the internet. I iPad and Pixel phone run rings around the performance of the fire tablets; also not having Android on these tablets is a no go for me.
it did get an updated chipset which is like twice as fast by geekbench single core which is my benchmark of choice. amazon claimed 50% more powerful than the prior model i believe. and yeah mainstream tech reviewers dont even run a benchmark, just "it feels slow/fast/whatever" sad lol. but um yeah ipad and pixel phone run rings around this when it comes to your wallet too lol what did you expect.
I would get an iPad 9 at this price, £250. It has much better performance and therefore in 5-7 years' time the iPad will still feel good. Better apps, more apps and longer support on the iPad. Also, better accessories.

It is very easy to add Google play store to buy devices. All of the android apps work perfectly on it as well. The fire operating system is running on top of the android software. The $10 is worth it to get rid of the ad also.for $220. You can turn it into a perfect android tablet. Fire tablets have amazing screen, quality, the best battery, life of any electronic device I’ve ever owned and good warranty. This is going to be my fourth fire product. They are amazing. As a sidenote, I thought I would throw in my fire tablets are the only thing I own that are not made by Apple.
I have a Fire 10 with Ads.The only Ads I get is on the lockscreen which I swipe past to use the tablet anyway. So I wouldn't pay £10 to remove the Ads.
Seems nice but lacking of a headphone jack is almost a dealbreaker for me. Need to be able to connect two headphones at the same time for two kids, which is impossible over bluetooth
Not a bad tablet if you're just going to use it for watching videos and stuff like that but Amazon needs to stop the nonsense of not making it a full Android tablet. Not having the Google services made my experience with the tablet not too enjoyable. I have a fire 10 and I had to install all Google services myself. My main issue with the fire tablets is the user interface. It's not good so most likely I will be buying the pixel tablet. Just waiting for a good sale

Another Fire 10 owner here. Once I converted it to Android (guides on youtube) it became one of my favourite devices.
You didn't convert it to android. It was already running Android with Amazon's skin.
When using it as an Android device, does it still have the option for the Amazon Kid's App? the monthly kids unlimited app for games and such.

Doubt such keyboard exist. Closest is just get a mini keyboard and connect to the tablet via wired USB.

I hope it's better than fire tablet 8 inch. I bought a few of those last year and the battery only lasts about an hour or so. They declined tremendously. My fire tablet 10 on the other hand has a great battery. I don't know why I would need this one over the 10.? not much different that I could see
An hour or so from the Fire 8, mate if that is really the case then you've been very unlucky.
@@TheOGRalphit’s true. I have the 2017 10.1 and it has about 1hr 10 minutes of battery life now. The battery stopped holding charge after the warranty was over

Might be worth it IF it was on special offer at $99 / £99 given its size but otherwise at its advertised price it is a hard “no”. On the apps store, it is a weakeness unless Google Apps can be loaded via the usual hack on Amazon tablets. I have had problems with headphone / earbud apps working though on Amazon tablets.

For me the tablet is weak for the price. 179 euro sounds about right. Maybe at Christmas sale.
@@Teelsambal you cant touch it at the price in the states, dunno if it's different elsewhere. the galaxy s6 light or whatever is like half as powerful vs this new updated chipset in the fire max (and it usually costs 330, though i think i saw it on sale last week for 249). nothing much else full size under 300. but yes sale is where these tablets shine. the old fire hd 10 was 149 but went on sale as low as 75. 149 sale price should be a given for this one, but i'll be fascinated to see if it goes any lower.

Nice rewiew, but I wsihed you'd have spent some more time of performance aspect of the tablet; my issue with Fire tablets has always been their performance, particulary as it relates to surfing the internet. I iPad and Pixel phone run rings around the performance of the fire tablets; also not having Android on these tablets is a no go for me.
it did get an updated chipset which is like twice as fast by geekbench single core which is my benchmark of choice. amazon claimed 50% more powerful than the prior model i believe. and yeah mainstream tech reviewers dont even run a benchmark, just "it feels slow/fast/whatever" sad lol. but um yeah ipad and pixel phone run rings around this when it comes to your wallet too lol what did you expect.
I would get an iPad 9 at this price, £250. It has much better performance and therefore in 5-7 years' time the iPad will still feel good. Better apps, more apps and longer support on the iPad. Also, better accessories.
@@andyH_England the amazon will go on sale for significantly even less though at some point to be fair. at least 149 in the states i assume, maybe lower. also do they still make ipad 9? personally i dislike buying things used for some weird reason i'm not even sure of.
@@cryengine_x Yes, when Apple released the iPad 10, they continued to make and sell the iPad9. They can be had very cheaply during sales, and offer much of the Amazon devices offer.

It is very easy to add Google play store to buy devices. All of the android apps work perfectly on it as well. The fire operating system is running on top of the android software. The $10 is worth it to get rid of the ad also.for $220. You can turn it into a perfect android tablet. Fire tablets have amazing screen, quality, the best battery, life of any electronic device I’ve ever owned and good warranty. This is going to be my fourth fire product. They are amazing. As a sidenote, I thought I would throw in my fire tablets are the only thing I own that are not made by Apple.
Wait for it to appear on a decent deal, for me it is too attached to Amazon, no Google play is a deal breaker for me

It's a great device, but it can't read ExFAT micro SD cards. It's limited to FAT32. It certainly makes a problem if you plan to use a big SD card .

Seems nice but lacking of a headphone jack is almost a dealbreaker for me. Need to be able to connect two headphones at the same time for two kids, which is impossible over bluetooth
All you have to do is buy a usbc-3.5mm audio adapter to use wired headphones. Costs around $10

Not a bad tablet if you're just going to use it for watching videos and stuff like that but Amazon needs to stop the nonsense of not making it a full Android tablet. Not having the Google services made my experience with the tablet not too enjoyable. I have a fire 10 and I had to install all Google services myself. My main issue with the fire tablets is the user interface. It's not good so most likely I will be buying the pixel tablet. Just waiting for a good sale
